  1. How long does it stay good? That's hard to say. Most of the time I slice it and wrap each slice individually then toss into a ziploc and into the freezer. When I want a sandwich or whatever, I toss however many pieces into the toaster just long enough to thaw and warm...30 seconds. It makes a great sandwich whether you just warm the bread or fully toast...
  2. That was fun! I think I got a little carried away too...I carved about 4 pumpkins Here's a Halloween bowling game that's fun. Open Original Shared Link
  3. It's interesting to have found this thread. I was just contemplating what a serious issue we have on hand with gluten-free labels cropping up everywhere on everything. I was actually logging on to express my thoughts. Like Tarnalberry, I have come to distrust the "gluten-free" label. I'm afraid that perhaps more and more manufacturers are wanting to jump...
  4. I'm sorry for your dh outbreak, but I think you may have just answered a question that has plagued me. I have tried a number of different corn tortillas and have reacted to all of them. I don't react to corn in general, so I couldn't figure why corn tortillas specifically were a problem for me. (I can eat On the Border tortilla chips, but haven't found...
  5. I use Vance's DariFree in my cereal and in all cooking that calls for milk. So far the only trouble I've run into is in trying to make Jello instant pudding....it doesn't ever firm up. I've tried it twice now (thinking the first time I measured wrong), but it just stays very liquid-y. It tastes great if you're looking for a vanilla (or whatever flavored...
  6. Thank you! Yes, we have Chick-Fil-A around here, and so far so good. I haven't tried a PF Chang's. I'm hoping there will be some wonderful, new and most importantly safe experiences in Atlanta. There aren't too many options for eating out safely here. You lived in Auburn, eh? Does that make you a Tiger fan? We (Ole Miss) play Auburn here today...
  7. I'll be in Atlanta Dec 8-12 for a conference, and I'll be staying at the Hilton Atlanta. I think that's downtown. I've read that I should have some pretty good options for eating out in Atlanta, and I know that a lot of you live there. What can you recommend in the area where I'll be staying, or within reasonable driving distance? Suggestions will be...
  8. Ditto, except for me I thought it could be the soy lecithin or the dairy since I've had trouble with both. I gave them up for that reason. I really believed they were safe. Dunno.
  9. ...you wonder if you can pay the "back east relatives" of a forum-mate you've never met exorbitant shipping rates to send you a $12 six pack of Gluten-free beer. ...you and your spouse sit on the couch reading this thread together, and both of you laugh knowingly
  10. emcmaster, the pain you describe is similar to the pain I used to have before my Celiac diagnosis. Any time I ate anything I felt like someone was scraping my intestines with their fingernails or a paint scraper. It was horrendous pain inside my gut, and like someone else said, it would last for many hours. I have not had that feeling since I really...
  11. Zojirushi gets thumbs up from me also. If you don't get a lot of response to this post, try searching the archives. Bread machines have been discussed a pretty good bit. Good choice on the Pamela's That's my favorite bread, too. (And it's great in the Zoji...but don't take just my word for it!) Breann6 and Pilgrim South, welcome to the...
  12. Nice! Good Housekeeping did an article a few months back. I think it featured Alice Bast as well. Thank you for sharing!
  13. Dah-ling, you look mahvelous!
  14. Congratulations!!! Your post makes me smile. It sounds like a bright new world has just opened for you. How exciting!!!
  15. That's interesting. Mine used to never be sticky in the middle. Lately, it's happened a couple of times. Does anyone have a thought on how I could avoid this? The method I've always used: Follow pkg directions Substituing 1/2 cup milk (DariFree) Bake in Zojirushi machine with gluten-free setting programmed in I've always done it exactly the same...
  16. I used that site this a.m. to send an e-mail to the Chef Ming Tsai's Customer Care (the only e-mail addy I could find). I expressed my appreciation for the safe haven he's providing to people with food intolerances that are living in/visiting that area. I also appreciate the example he's setting for other chefs. Floridanative had a good idea..... We should...
  17. Yes, I, too, would love the opportunity to eat in his restaurant. Boston is one of the few areas in this country I haven't traveled. Hmmmmm..... I went to his website just now, and it says that his shelf and frozen foods can be purchased through Super Targets. Has anyone tried these? With his understanding (and personal interest) in food intolerances...
  18. Pamela's is the only bread I eat now! Great bread! Great pizza crust! My MIL, too, thought the bread was delicious....and that's a huge compliment! Any friend or family member who has tried it thinks it tastes just like gluten-filled homemade bread. YUM!
  19. Did anyone else happen to catch CBS Sunday Morning today? They did about a 5 minute segment called Dangerous Dining. The first focus was on a family with children with multiple food allergies. About 3.5 minutes in they cut to Chef Ming Tsai of the Blue Ginger in Boston who welcomes all food-allergic people. He has a son with multiple allergies,...
  20. Will you just post the recipe here, please?
  21. Try some kale. When I was so very sick and just beginning the gluten-free after diagnosis, I read somewhere that kale was healing for the intestines. I don't remember where I read it, and I thought that idea sounded absolutely absurd, but I couldn't even tolerate a baked potato and was willing to try almost anything once. Amazingly kale (steamed until...
  22. This sounds like a yummy fall treat. Now that the air is crisp, I may have to make some today. Thank you for sharing.
  23. I bet we all have nini"s chicken for dinner rather often. So yummy and smells divine as it cooks
  24. As with every manufactured product, some companies will toss in a little wheat because....?????? Do your homework, check with some product list or call the manufacturer's 800 #. Use caution and you'll be fine. As with everything else, some veggies by some companies will be fine, while other veggies by the same company won't be gluten-free. Go figure....
  25. I just saw this post. I have been diagnosed with PVCs (a common and usually benign irregularity) and PACs not common and not usually benign according to my drs. I, too, have gone through numerous EKGs, Echocardiograms, stress tests, holter monitors, etc. Like you, the problem is very real, occurs very often, and has been documented within the tests, but...
