  1. Oh no, it doesn't require the entire mix. Use the GFP "Quick Mix" as a 1:1 substitute for Bisquick. I think I used 1/2 c milk (darifree) 1 egg and 1 cup Quick Mix. This made 4 very large pancakes...plenty for hubby and me. Sure, you can mix it yourself and do other flour combos. Pancakes can be made a multitude of ways. DH and I were very happy...
  2. I'll definitely give these a try for either Christmas Eve or New Year's appetizer. Thanks!
  3. I had the most delicious pancakes of my gluten-free life this a.m. I've tried making pancakes with Pamela's mix and other mixes & recipes but while they were good, they didn't replace those wonderful Bisquick pancakes. Then, Nini gave me an idea! She told me that she uses Gluten Free Pantry's Quick Mix as a 1:1 substitute in all of the Bisquick recipes...
  4. Please share your menu for gluten-free crescent rolls EVERYBODY's menus sound delicious! I'm getting hungry thinking about yummy good food!
  5. I echo what mamaw said. My husband had terrible night sweats, and the first thing the dr. did was a lung x-ray. I'm not sure what he was looking for but he scheduled it seriously and quickly. Nothing. Next up was a diabetes check. Bingo. I never would have thought so but the dr. said in his case he can thank genetics for it. (I'm telling you this...
  6. My word is to be careful with the corn tortillas. Others eat Mission, Great Value, and other brands successfully. I get sick from every brand I've tried. I am not corn intolerant, and do not react to On the Border tortilla chips. If you search you'll see where I posted of my glutenings from tortillas from the beginning of this for me. For a long time...
  7. If you do a search on this forum for bread mixes or bread recipes you'll find a lot of great suggestions. Two of the more popular mixes seem to be Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread mix (my personal favorite), and Manna from Anna (I think that's the name of the one I keep hearing others say is good) which I haven't tried. Gluten Free Pantry bread mix is...
  8. I've heard of that study but haven't run across it myself. Kathy Ann, do you or someone else know where I could read more about it? My family and friends are very supportive since my Celiac diagnosis, but that would be an interesting read! Thanks in advance!
  9. This is the first I've seen of this. Can you point me to the research for more reading?
  10. Thank you, and yes for Haines, AK. Hubby and I took an Alaskan cruise a few years ago. A few months later we adopted a very loving shelter dog...ta daaaa.....Haines! That would be so grand! Speaking of absent gall bladders, the euphoria was THE BEST I still haven't figured that one out
  11. Oh, Bev!!!! He's adorable, and will be such a handsome big fella I'm really super happy for you. So is Angus the name? I like that a LOT. What a great name, and he looks like an Angus....Haines thinks so, too! Enjoy, and one day he'll be house-broken, and one year he'll be beyond the chewing stage, and you'll be glad you stuck with him because...
  12. I think it varies greatly by location. I've eaten at two locations two times each and of those 4 times, got sick every time. BUT, I have eaten at two other locations multiple times and never gotten sick. The best experience I've had was at the Tupelo, MS location. GREAT staff and manager. He said they spin their gluten free salad orders in a separate...
  13. I eat the Oscar Mayer All Beef franks with no problems.
  14. Just to present the flip side.... There are also a lot of Celiacs on this board that have had reactions to Nut Thins.
  15. I echo Heather22 and Cassidy. I do not trust "gluten free" at face value. Companies that have dedicated gluten free facilities have always been safe for me, Kinnikinnick, Enjoy Life, and others. Over the past year (since my diagnosis) I've been sick many times through cross-contamination by several companies that place a gluten-free label on their product...
  16. With your own history and family history, you certainly sound like a candidate for Celiac, wheat allergy, or gluten intolerance. The only reason I think you might want to consider further testing is because if you are Celiac, then the bread you had at communion would be enough to do damage, and you can't take that kind of risk. If you KNOW that you have...
  17. Gluten Free Pantry makes a WONDERFUL pie crust mix. It's excellent even by gluten-filled standards. If you think about it, many (most?) pie fillings are naturally gluten free....I'm thinking homemade apple, pecan, etc. For cakes, I've had luck with Namaste and a to die for Chocolate cake made from Pamela's Brownie Mix (cake directions are on the side...
  18. and "Can you tell me what is in X? Is that cooked near anything breaded or with flour?" These are both a start, but only barely for someone who has Celiac disease. Neither of these take into consideration the addition of wheat & barley (malt) added to pre-packaged sauces, seasonings, etc. Neither really stresses the cross-contamination problems...
  19. To help you consider wisely your options, we need a little more information. Remind us why you went gluten-free. If you have had positive bloodwork or biopsy, or a drs diagnosis of Celiac based on whatever, you obviously must stay gluten free. If you went gluten-free because you thought it might be the answer, then you may want to do more of a challenge...
  20. How long has it been since you wrote the company? When a company doesn't respond to my request, I scratch them off my list. If they don't have the time or inclination to respond to my need for ingredient/processing information, then I consider their product too risky and they don't get my money.
  21. *Best Bread = Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread mix *Best Bagels = NA *Best Pasta = Tinkyada Brown Rice Pasta *Best Pizza = Crust made from Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix *Best Rolls = Gillians *Best Crackers = Schar *Best Cereal = Enjoy Life granola *Best Waffles = NA *Best Donuts = Made some homemade ones once that were very...
  22. I have just seen this thread. Of course I will keep positive thoughts and have already stopped and said a prayer. Elementary P. E. teachers are special people, and so are brothers-in-law! Prayers for him, your sister, and all the family. God bless!
  23. Some manufacturers claim gluten-free but have issues with cross-contamination. Hormel, on the other hand, is an incredible company! I eat a lot of their products including their Natural lunchmeats in those brown boxes. They claim to be safe and really are!!!
  24. My greatest recommendation would be to order a set of Triumph Dining cards (Google them). They're inexpensive, and the wording is friendly, accurate, and thorough and restaurant managers/chefs seem to love them. I won't eat out often at all, but when I've used my Triumph Dining cards I've always been treated with respect and usually have dined successfully...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

I used to have leg twitches in my calves and thighs (for me, thighs more than calves), but had never tied this to the Celiac when it was finally diagnosed. Like you, it was almost always when I was lying down, occasionally sitting, but always when my legs were otherwise relaxed. You could watch one specific muscle in either thigh twitch and move (I say...
