  1. YES!!! I had SEVERE pain. It felt like a paint scraper scraping the insides of my guts every time I ate. Ultimately, I learned that I had complete villous atrophy .... severe intestinal damage. I never called an ambulance, but oh my goodness the pain was unbearable.
  2. For anyone who missed the Dr. Peter Green/Dr. Mehmet Oz broadcast, it has already been placed in the archives Open Original Shared Link I'm sure you'll need to do as Floridanative suggested earlier and sign up at least for the free 3 day trial. That's what I did to be able to listen to the broadcast live. If I understood correctly, Dr. Green, thought...
  3. The times listed in the post above are Eastern. If you follow the oprah.xm link above you'll see a link for Program Schedule. Times are listed in Eastern, but for those who don't want to do the math, there's even a drop-down and you can choose your time zone to adjust the schedule Thanks for asking that question....hehehe, I always assume times...
  4. Ditto All the research I've read/heard is explained well in this post.
  5. Or to me a wine cooler....anyway, they are much lighter in taste than beer, but not watery like cheap beer. I've had the Woodchuck Cider, whatever the "regular" one is, and the Pear. I prefer the pear...yum!
  6. Woo hoo! I've signed up for my free trial, and I'm all set. Plus, I just learned that there are archives of the shows so anyone who misses it will be able to catch it later. (With XM, of course) I must be asking the obvious, but I don't see on the XM site or on the Oprah & Friends' site where it say that Thursday will include a discussion of Celiac...
  7. When I was diagnosed 11 mos ago, my GI said, "We're going to talk heart-to-heart, and I want you to look in my eyes and know how serious I am. You are a very sick lady. You have a serious disease. The good news is that you will get better with time if you do exactly what I am going to tell you to do. For the rest of your life you will be on an extremely...

    ARCHIVED New Podcast

Very Cool!! Your son has done a wonderful job with his interview & podcast. I applaud him for this work which is both professional and thorough. What a great way to reach out and educate!!! Go Brian! Alright, forum mates, you'll want to take a few minutes to have a listen....you really are in for a treat!
  9. It's been almost a year since my gi diagnosed me as having Celiac Disease. It's hard to believe I've managed to survive without intentionally consuming gluten for 11 mos! I remember the confusion and feeling of being overwhelmed that settled on me for many weeks afterwards. Thanks to so many people here, I have managed fairly well, and the confusion and...
  10. I made a delicious turkey pizza for lunch.... Very small amount of ranch dressing on the crust, turkey, bacon, avocado, provolone EXCELLENT!
  11. Hahaha...You're the best! That's right, our gall-bladderless selves could go skipping arm in arm into the nearest restaurant of our choosing! No Celiac symptoms...including the gall bladder symptoms that stemmed from Celiac. Just think of the possibilities! Do I think there will be true, real gluten free restaurant chains? Yes, I think that's...
  12. It's valid and wise, and the only safe course for your friend is to completely avoid any chance of cross-contamination. You're a good friend to ask. But please believe she's not overreacting. A crumb is all that it takes to cause damage to a Celiac's intestine, not to mention all of the more obvious side-effects that your friend may suffer in the short...
  13. Where's the pill line? While standing in that line, I would of course inquire about long and short term side effects. I would only take it if it was thoroughly tested and safe, etc. (I don't want to get into a "no drug is safe" discussion. I'd calculate the risk once I was as informed as could be and would have to be pretty certain it would be safe...
  14. Yummmy! These sound great....please continue
  15. Google Earth has been one of my favorites for about a year, too! As someone said, some areas have better quality photos. Try going to the Grand Canyon....if you set the view right, you can zoom down into the canyon and then fly through...so cool!
  16. GREAT! I'm glad that worked for you. It is easy to do, and hopefully others who may feel intimidated trying will now realize it really is just a few quick steps....taaadaaaaa! Yes, if the other videos on that site are in some other format then probably they are opening in Windows Media Player or something. QuickTime is the only player I know of that...
  17. The problem people are having viewing the CNN video from the Celiac Central website is NOT just related to Internet Explorer 7. I have Internet Explorer 6 and get the same partial video. For those anxious to see the video, try using Firefox (see above). It's been proven to work because I use it primarily, Nini uses it, Gamecreature uses it and all have...
  18. I did some researching, and the IE/QT problem seems to be one of long-standing. IE version 5.5 thru 6 have some issues with QT. This can be worked around if the developer of a web page generates the right code. (Which is why sometimes you don't have this problem.) I'm not sure, but I suspect that embedding video may be new ground for the very hard-working...
  19. Regarding Video Issues.... Ok, I can view the video fine. Nini can view it fine. Anyone else? And if anyone else is successful, what browser and version are you using? I use Firefox and know for a fact that Nini does, too. She and I viewed the video fine. I tried to open it in Internet Explorer to answer questions in a pm I was sent, and guess what...
  20. The video played fine for me. The box is small, maybe 2" x 2" but I do see entire people (or desk up) anyway. I think you are having browser or QT issues if the video is not playing correctly. The reason for the small size is to decrease bandwidth consumption. If you look at the url, Celiac Central is hosting this on their server, it's not a feed from...
  21. Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music! The "real story"? The people who have Celiac Disease are the real story. I am the real story. You are the real story. Anyone here or in the big world beyond who suffers from Celiac Disease (whether they have been diagnosed or not), that's where the real story is. Who cares why we've been so slow to...
  22. That's great! Gonna set the DVR Judy, how do you have your Google Alerts set so that you received this? I just started Google Alerts today, and I think I set it for keyword: Celiac, and "news" as the media I am interested in. Thanks for the info!
  23. I second the vote for GFP's Perfect Pie Crust Mix. It's very easy to make and tastes delicious! Very flakey and yummy. The filling for almost any type of pie can easily be made gluten-free and many of the recipes I've always used just naturally are gluten-free.
  24. The only bread I really like is Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix. We bought a bread machine last year when I was first diagnosed, and I make all of our bread. We tried buying a few pre-made loaves at first...blegh! Some other bread mixes are ok, but Pamela's really is "Amazing"! DH does not have to be gluten-free, but he wants a gluten-free kitchen...
  25. Nini has a great chicken recipe that uses potato flakes. OMG yummy!!!!! Do a search for Nini's chicken, or hopefully someone will post it on here. It's the most delicious tasting/smelling chicken ever... I think I just planned supper
