jaten replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Y'all have inspired me to try this bread. I am not a "baker" and have always relied on Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free bread mix. 1 1/4 cups gluten-free flour 1/4 cup garfava flour 1/2 cup potato starch 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/4 cup flax seed meal Of the above flours/starches, how was the 1 c rice flour and 1/2 c sorghum flour substituted... -
ARCHIVED How Do People Cope With The Frustration Of Celiac Disease?
jaten replied to dagreen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ditto! ...well, maybe not the gymnastics part The only difference between what she's expressed and my own view is that I do consider Celiac an inconvenience. It is inconvenient to pack all my food when we travel. It is inconvenient to be out shopping and have to stop and go home to eat (if I forgot to pack food, or shopped longer than I planned... -

jaten replied to Mtndog's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Best wishes and many prayers for a speedy recovery!! If the dirt starts to get to you before it does your husband.....just pop another pain pill (Anytime I've had to take those, I'm not bothered by anything....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) -
I've recently noticed there are a number of folks on here in the Fairfax, VA area. I'll be there for a few days and am looking for very safe restaurant options (ok, as safe as is possible). Is the Outback there a good choice? (Some are, some aren't) Other options? Please help! I'm leaving early Friday a.m. I did see a thread on here, but a lot of...

ARCHIVED Pannaz? Histussin Hc?
jaten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been given 3 prescriptions: Levaquin (antibiotic), Pannaz tablets and Histussin HC cough syrup. I know the Levaquin is safe but I can't find info on the Pannaz and the Histussin HC. Any help/information will be greatly appreciated. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer By Bud
jaten replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep, that's me! I did find it in our WalMart yesterday and had one with my Kinnikinnick pizza last night. I thought it was good....tasted like beer, and dh confirmed. I, too, felt the need to buy more than a six-pack (to help the success in this area). I didn't. I bought 1 6-pk, and that will last me awhile. -
ARCHIVED Overweight Before I Was Diagnosed. Has Anyone Lost Weight Since Going Gluten Free?
jaten replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was about 60 lbs overweight. Then went into severe malabsorption about a year ago and dropped 40 lbs in 2 mos before finally being diagnosed. I have gained about 13 lbs back -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer By Bud
jaten replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Y'all try what someone suggested earlier. Call 1.800.DIALBUD and find out who your distributor is. Then call the distributor to find out where in your area it will be. That's what I did. Should be in my WalMart today!.... guess I'll go fight the WM crowd at some point this evening. -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick All Purpose Mix
jaten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
:lol:lol oK, I bought something and am not sure what to do with it...go ahead and chuckle, y'all know how it is! I have to drive 60-70 miles to buy much in the way of specialty foods. Today I saw a new (to me) item, Kinnikinnick All Purpose Mix. Because it's such a drive, I just bought a bag of it. Who uses it? How do you use it? Flour substitute... -
ARCHIVED Dari Free
jaten replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I e-mailed back to thank her for the info, she replied that she does suspect that this particular can must have been at the beginning or end of a batch. Jersey Angel, I bet that's why you've noticed a vanilla-y taste before. This was my first experience with any inconsistency, and wow(!) it's overwhelming...sssoooo very sweet tasting. (In fact... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Flours That Make You Sick....
jaten replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know what you mean...I didn't mention it either because I react to many products that others here are fine with, but my eyes popped wide when I read your post. I have no problems with xanthan gum in any other circumstance but I have been sick every time I've added Bob's xanthan gum to anything I make. Like you, I tried it various ways multiple times.... -
Marlene, talk with your dr. or with the surgeon who removed your gall bladder. I had mine removed last spring also (because it did not function at all...tested at 0%), and very thankfully I am doing quite well. The surgeon who removed it told me that if I had any problems after the first few weeks to get back in to see him. He said that most people do...

ARCHIVED Dari Free
jaten replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All is well in land of DariFree!! Perhaps this canister came at the beginning or end of a run and just doesn't have the exactly right mix of ingredients. I don't know. But I'm happy!!! I just received this e-mail from the company: "Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the new packaging. However, the formula has not changed for... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Flours That Make You Sick....
jaten replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
DITTO!!!! I'm sorry for you, but glad I'm not the only one with this exact experience. I react to other Bob's products....flours, etc. I do eat their Creamy Rice cereal because I've never had a problem with it (but not the same for the Mighty Tasty cereal or whatever). -
I just ordered some Dari Free and noticed they've changed the packaging to a resealable canister. Woo Hoo! That's good. But, it tastes different. Has anybody else noticed this? I know it's not my imagination, it has a very sweet taste, sort of like melted ice cream. It even smells sweet, like vanilla frosting. I looked at the ingredient...

Woo Hoo!!!!! My distributor is going to try to have it in my Wal-Mart by Friday, day after tomorrow!!!!! Happy dance...happy dance Thanks for the tip, Floridanative. ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer By Bud
jaten replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anybody else have trouble with the "retail locator" found on the page linked above? I put in my zip and nothing happens....acts like it's going to, but nada. I have tried it in both Firefox and IE. Maybe it's just not in my area yet, but then I would expect a statement saying that. Thanks for any advice. -
I was in Atlanta last week, and we actually ate there twice!!! The food was SO DELICIOUS, and I was felt like a normal person eating in a restaurant. One word of caution: The first time we ate there I ordered the chocolate flourless cake, and they cautioned me that they would have to serve it without ice cream because their ice cream is not gluten...

Or a hash brown casserole. Many of them are naturally gluten free if you use a recipe that doesn't use cream soup of any sort. -

ARCHIVED Difference Between Celiac Disease And Celiac Sprue Disease?
jaten replied to mainesgem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1- Celiac, 2- Celiac Sprue, 3-Sprue are synonymous. Well, there are a couple of types of sprue I think, but ..... My GI diagnosed me with "Celiac Sprue" and stamped "Celiac Sprue" in huge letters across my medical chart; however, in conversation he most often refers to it as Sprue. He once told me why he uses the term Sprue vs Celiac, but that was during...
