ARCHIVED About Those Rice Chex...
wolfie replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat Rice Chex daily for a snack. I top with blueberries, strawberries & raspberries. I was topping with yogurt, but I think the yogurt is bothering my tummy. I stopped eating the yogurt on top 3 days ago, but still had the berries & Rice Chex with no issues. I really, really need to make some Chex Mix or Puppy Chow with this cereal! ... -
ARCHIVED Chewy Chocolate Oat Chip Cookies
wolfie replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a question about baking with Pamela's mix. When I went to their website, they have a statement there about leavening agents and give you the amounts so that you can adjust in your recipes, though they won't comment on salt in the mix or how much it equals. I have never tried to omit the leavening completely and only use Pamela's. I am scared! LOL... -
ARCHIVED Good Basic Cookie/muffin Mix?
wolfie replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also use Pamela's Baking mix. I used it the other day to make these spice muffins I found on a blog I read...OMG...they were amazing and didn't last long around here. Here is the link to the recipe: Open Original Shared Link I used Pamela's mix and only used about half of the xanthan gum b/c Pamela's has guar gum in it. I also omitted the salt... -

ARCHIVED Smucker's Simply Fruit Blueberry
wolfie replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for all of the responses. Maybe I cross-contaminated myself (I do make gluten filled food for DD) by crumbs or something on my hands or plate that I missed. I am ultra careful, but it is possible that something happened. -
ARCHIVED Smucker's Simply Fruit Blueberry
wolfie replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you. No one else would touch blueberry spread, so that isn't it. My DH & kids are strictly grape if they ever even touch jelly/jam, which is rare. No other new products. I think I am going to switch to Polanar Strawberry tomorrow and see if my symptoms improve. I eat PB & J on brown rice cakes for breaky every AM. I am going to call Smucker... -
ARCHIVED Smucker's Simply Fruit Blueberry
wolfie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought all Smucker's jellies & jams were gluten-free. This one lists natural flavors in the ingredients. I double checked on my lists, and it should be gluten-free. I have been feeling glutened over the past few days that I have started using this. I usually use Polanar (says gluten-free right on it), but they didn't have the blueberry last time... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free @ Walmart Super Center
wolfie replied to SacGFGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I knew the nut bars from Nature Valley were gluten-free, but I don't see the Fruit Trail Mix being gluten free. The ones they have listed on Amazon have oats and malt extract listed as ingredients. Am I looking at the wrong bars? I would love to find another mainstream bar to eat. http://www.Lame Advertisement/Nature-Valley-Chewyy...2860&sr=8-... -
ARCHIVED Log Cabin Syrup
wolfie replied to Puddy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would be interested to hear if they did reformulate, b/c I called in 2006 and they told me that there was indeed barley malt in the natural flavorings and that the only gluten-free product they had was the Log Cabin Country Kitchen, which is not sold here. We use Aunt Jemima now or real maple syrup (DS doesn't like this, though I do). -
ARCHIVED Powdered Sugar
wolfie replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A year or so ago I went to buy powdered sugar at Wal-Mart and their Great Value brand had wheat starch in it. Most brands use corn starch. Just make sure to check the label on whichever powdered sugar you buy. -
Philip's Better Lemon Chicken and the Ginger Chicken w/Broccoli (or something like that) are both very good and mild. They have an amazing dessert too...the chocolate dome. DS goes crazy for it! Have a nice dinner!

I just at at the one in Columbus, Ohio (Polaris location) this past Monday. They did not have a gluten-free menu for me to look at, but the manager, server and kitchen staff was more than helpful on what DS and I could eat. DS ordered a plain cheeseburger (huge) and mashed potatoes (must have been a pound of them....boy were they good!). I ordered a side...

ARCHIVED Banana Allergy?
wolfie replied to B'sgirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Bananas do not agree with me either. My stomach hurts, I get bloated and just feel horrible. I can also eat banana bread without issues. Very strange. -
Hillshire Farms Kielbasa
wolfie replied to IdGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most sausage/kielbasa/hot dogs do this to my stomach even though they are gluten-free. DS also has Celiac and can eat all of the above and be fine and he is super-sensitive. -
ARCHIVED Who Has The Best Cake Mix
wolfie replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Another vote for Pamela's Chocolate Cake Mix. I use the recipe on the side that adds the sour cream..YUM!! I use Hershey's Cocoa frosting recipe on the side of the can for it. Oh wow, I am hungry just typing that out!! LOL! -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Vacations?
wolfie replied to slmprofesseur's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We just got back from the beach in NC and we took some of the gluten-free stuff that I wasn't sure if I could find down there and then ate most of our meals in the beach house. We did a lot of fresh fruits, veggies, rice, potatoes, meat and seafood. It was really not much different than what I do at home to be honest. We brought a couple of coolers for... -

ARCHIVED How Quickly Do You React To Gluten?
wolfie replied to splash's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son has a reaction within a half hour usually.....diarrhea. I usually have a delayed reaction....somewhere between 4 and 8 hours for me. ***Knocking on wood**** it has been a while since I was glutened. -
My Dr suspects that I have endometriosis, but since the only way to confirm is surgery, we are trying medication first. I take the BC pill continuously and if that starts to not work, we will try Lupron. I have been gluten-free since January of 2006, though I did not have a biopsy to confirm Celiac, I did have positive blood work.

ARCHIVED Outback Steakhouse, Concord, Nh
wolfie replied to Mistilyn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh wow!!! I will have to call the location closest to us to see if they have gluten-free bread. DS will go nuts!!! Thanks for sharing! -
We love Bonefish! We eat there 3 or 4 times per month. We have experienced some issues though. DS has been glutened there 3 times. He was getting a plain chicken breast and was glutened 2 times in a row, so no more chicken. Then he started eating the saucy shrimp and brownie dessert. He was fine the first few times of eating that, but somehow was glutened...
