Thanks so much for all for all of the great suggestions!! She is doing well and doesn't suspect anything (yet)! LOL! I got the Envirokidz Animal Cookies and she loves them! I also bought the berry bars, but she hasn't tried them yet. She had pepperoni, cheese & glutino crackers for lunch yesterday and loved it! She did ask for a Pop-Tart this AM... -

My dd's name is Hannah too! They sound a lot alike! We have some of the Pirate Booty and she loves that. Thanks for all of the fabulous ideas! I love the trail mix idea. I have all of that stuff here already and can mix it right up. She loves to dip carrots in ranch, so that would be a great snack too. I may look into the Pediasure for her or see if... -

ARCHIVED Starting Daughter On A Gluten-free Diet Today....

Very good point! That is a much better way to do it. We do have a Meijer nearby and shop there regularly. I have never seen all of the things you mentioned there, but have seen some of them. We also have a Whole Foods about 20 minutes away, so I can stock up there. Thanks for responding! -
ARCHIVED Need Something To Relieve Gas.. Constipated...
wolfie replied to wintersky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would definitely stay away from the artificial sweeteners for the time being. I can't do Splenda, nutrasweet or Sweet & Low b/c they all cause horrible gas pains & gas. At first I thought it was the carbonation, but I tried drinking Crystal Light (nutrasweet) and iced tea with splenda or sweet & low. -
ARCHIVED Starting Daughter On A Gluten-free Diet Today....
wolfie replied to wolfie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I buy most of our specialty foods at Whole Foods or my local health food store. Some of our grocery stores carry some stuff too, but not as big of a selection. For myself & DS, I stick mainly to naturally gluten-free foods. I have wasted $$ on a few things that were nasty. One was a pizza made by Comfy Cuisine. I bought it at Whole Foods in the... -

Thanks so much for your response! I have seen most of that stuff at my local health food store and will head there tomorrow. DS tried the S'Better Farms Corn Dogs and didn't like them. I haven't tried them yet, but they smelled pretty darn good to me! Maybe I will give them to DD now! LOL! -
ARCHIVED Starting Daughter On A Gluten-free Diet Today....
wolfie posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are starting our 4.5 year old dd on a gluten-free diet today. She has been seeing a GI dr for 6 or so months and is still complaining of tummy pain. She was blood tested twice for Celiac, came back neg both times, but total IGA was elevated slightly. Not sure what that meant. They did an US of her belly, came back normal. Tried her on Lactaid for... -

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Cc?
wolfie replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am 7 days out from my last glutening (the first in a long time) and I still don't feel 100%. I was feeling really good before the incident and I hope I get back there soon. -
ARCHIVED Artificial & Natural Flavoring
wolfie replied to aatwoson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Natural flavors can also have barley malt or malt flavoring in them and they do NOT have to be labeled by law. There is a list of companies that will not hide gluten (barley) in their products that I will post below. If you are unsure, you can always contact the company to verify for sure. When a company says it will clearly list gluten, you might... -
Sorry that you are having a tough day. Your PCP sounds like a real piece of work. I am glad that you are looking for a new dr and have an appt. already. I always try to keep at least some candy or nuts in my purse so that if there is food some place that I can't eat, I can munch on something. ((HUGS))

ARCHIVED How Lactose Intolerant Are You?
wolfie replied to zagadka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I first went gluten-free, I couldn't even eat a slice of cheese without taking 2 lactaid pills. Now that I am more than a year in, I only have to take 1 and I usually only do it if I am out OR am eating a large amount of dairy. I still don't drink milk, but really should give that a try again soon. -
ARCHIVED Problem Digesting Vegetables
wolfie replied to disneyfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a problem with veggies for a while after I went gluten-free. Once I was 6+ months in, I was able to tolerate them much better. There are still some that really bother me though like raw peppers and any kind of onion. -
ARCHIVED What's The Best gluten-free Bread?
wolfie replied to snomnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is a recipe on the side of the package of the Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix. It was AMAZING! I just used the mix, 1/2 cup of oil, 1 1/2 cup of warm water, the yeast packet and some italian seasoning. -
ARCHIVED What's The Best gluten-free Bread?
wolfie replied to snomnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We used Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix or Whole Foods Favorite Sandwich Bread (already baked & frozen). I love them both! I just made pizza with the pamela's mix last night and even DH loved it (he doesn't eat gluten-free and usually isn't fond of the pizza/bread I make gluten-free). -
ARCHIVED Natural Flavoring
wolfie replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have also seen barley malt hidden under "natural flavoring". Wheat has to be listed on the label now by law, but barley does not. You should verify all products that have natural flavoring on the ingredient list or stick with products whose manufacturers will not hide gluten on their label (Kraft, General Mills, Unilever, etc). -
ARCHIVED Dusting Flour Substitute Recommendation
wolfie replied to jerseygrl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would use the baking mix or corn flour, if you have it. I used Zatarain's fish fri for some fish and it is just corn flour....it turns out very nicely. We have used baking mix (Pamela's) for dusting chicken before. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Where Did It All Begin?
wolfie replied to Lailalachina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had some vague symptoms after high school. I suspect maybe that my struggle with anorexia as a teen may have triggered it. I was down to 95 pounds at 5 ft 7. I was able to get back to a healthy weight with help from my dr. Later on in my early 20s, when we used to go out and drink lots of beer, I would always end up with D the next day. My friends... -
I have made this same recipe before using crushed up pecan shortbread cookies made by Pamela and using Pistachio pudding. It was TDF!! I am going to have to try the chocolate pudding and the baking mix now....sounds YUM!!!

ARCHIVED Do They Still Sell Amy's Rice Macaroni And Cheese?
wolfie replied to beaglemania's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't been able to find this for a while either!! I thought it was just sold out the first 2 times I looked for it, but now I am thinking different. Wonder if they discontinued it? I would hope not, it was one of the best meals that Amy's made! DS loves it!! We have been getting Glutino's frozen mac & cheese in it's place, but it isn't as good...
