ARCHIVED The American Idol Thread...2008
Cheri A replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm glad it went your way, Angie. We didn't watch again this week. It's "Turn Off The Screens" week at my kids school and I didn't tivo. Really, I didn't miss it. I'm not sure if I'll keep watching or not. Just not into it now at all. Maybe I'll watch the finals. -
Thanks, Patti! I your avatar, it's beautiful!! Still waiting on the test results, but I have talked more and more to Carleigh. I think if it is what she wants to do, then DH will go along with it.

ARCHIVED New Recipes From Whole Foods
Cheri A replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the recipe reviews!! I will report back when I make something too! -
Thanks, Julie. Yes, eliminating wheat was the key to getting her healthy again. I agree with you about placing more value in how a food makes you feel. I REALLY do not want to challenge this. I also spoke to a nurse-friend yesterday about it. Her kids are both allergy patients at the same office. When I told her about the celiac markers, she said she...

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
Cheri A replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really NEED to order another mini kit. I am out of my favorite foundation. On the last one I ordered some summer colors, but spring has not arrived here yet. It will be a long time until I am ready for those colors. I'm trying to hold out until the new site launches... I really like the original glo best. My face tends to be dry too. -
Thank you, Ursa. I'm well aware that the testing will not show intolerances. They do not know much about celiac disease, they tested for me after I hooked up on this board. We had decided not to put her through the GI and scoping because she was SO sick at the time. I really wish that I had thought to point out the celiac testing while there. We...

ARCHIVED In Place Of Eggs
Cheri A replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I usually substitute eggs with this: 1 1/2T water, 1 1/2T. oil, 1 tsp. baking powder mixed together = 1 egg. You can double for up to two eggs. After that it doesn't work so well. I also have done 1/4 cup applesauce = 1 egg in quick breads and a cookie recipe that I have. I''d like to try the flax recipe sometime though. I'm not a fan of... -
ARCHIVED Corn Grits
Cheri A replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love grits around here. I cook the grits according to the recipe. Then I add a bunch of cheddar cheese to it. We top with some garlic salt, pepper, and butter/margarine to taste. It's a yummy side dish. I've also thrown the leftovers in with some beans and quinoa before. Some people like them sweet too, but not us. -
We made our three-hour trek to Wisconsin yesterday to take Carleigh and I to the allergist. It was a very exciting appointment. For the first time in her eight years of going to an allergist, she didn't cry. She had skin pricks and blood taken with barely a tear, and no protest. The blood testing will test all of her food allergies, including wheat. ...

ARCHIVED New Recipes From Whole Foods
Cheri A replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks, Julie! I didn't know that WH had a newsletter. Guess I better get over to their site and register! The Tabouleh and the Chicken/Dumplings sound good to me! I also might tweak my Easy Lasagna recipe a bit to theirs. -

ARCHIVED The American Idol Thread...2008

I guess that "vote for the worst" didn't work this week. I would have rather seen Syesha go home tonight. Julie, I thought it would be Brooke going home out of those two also. She really hasn't done well the last few weeks at all. I need to go watch the whole performances at AI or YouTube. David Cook sang my all-time favorite Mariah Carey song... -
Wow, so many dissatisfied KA owners. Sorry that your dishwasher needs to be replaced. We had to replace our Whirlpool dishwasher in January. It was only six years old and developed a CRACK in the tub. I have no idea how that happened, it was at the back of the tub. We debated between the BOSCH and the KA. After what happened, DH wanted a stainless...

I went over there and read what they are saying. That would be pretty bad if Randy already knew her. I have no idea about the final two yet. I'm sure that David Cook will probably be one of them though since we had our shocker last week. I'll just continue to close my eyes and listen! -
I have not been able to find a box here yet.

Angie, have you heard anything about Harli? I'm still praying for her.

I thought so too. I am not liking Carly as much as I used too. I still really like Brooke. -

Unbelieveable!! Yes, I agree! Currently, I work part-time some nights. When I'm home, we rarely turn the TV on until after 9:00 p.m.. Thank goodness for Tivo!! -
ARCHIVED Success Stories?
Cheri A replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, Colleen! You have had quite a journey!! I'm so glad that you are feeling well and that your children will not have to go through what you have gone through. -
Angie, I will pray for Harli and for her recovery. IKWYM about that hitting very close to home for you. I feel the same way for a local family here. Last summer, a 6 year old girl was in the kiddie pool at a golf club. She sat on the uncovered, or defective, drain cover. It SUCKED her intestines out! Related to that, she ended up needing...

Spunky, I've wanted to try the sorghum flour from Twin Valley Mills. I sent them an e-mail and never got a response. How did you order yours? How does it compare to BRM?

I'll join that club. He's my favorite, out of the guys. That was my favorite performance the other night. The rest were just all right for me too. I won't surprise you all by saying that I really did not like David Cook, even with my eyes closed. I was thinking the same thing as your niece!! ... -
Welcome back! Sorry to hear that you were so sick for some of it, although it sounds like you were able to have some fun in there too.
-
I'm a quinoa fan too. Usually I make it like Juliebove does with chicken broth and veggies. I have also mixed it with beans, rice, and cheese. I've never made the flakes before though. The creamy brown rice breakfast sounds really good! Thanks for the ideas!!

I use sorghum flour all the time. I made a modified Carol Fenster blend (increase tapioca starch by 1/2 c., and take out the corn flour) to use as a 1:1 sub in my old recipes or to make some of her recipes. I also use the bread recipe from Twin Valley Mills weekly to make bread.
