Testing for Celiacs
trents replied to Alikat77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Alikat77! Yes, we have numerous reports on the forum of people who test positive for villous atrophy and but are negative for blood antibody testing. Often this happens when only one antibody test is run from the several that can be run. Typically, physicians will run only the tissue Transglutaminase IGA (aka,, tTG-IGA). It is... -
Welcome to the forum, Rosebud2485! Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease or are you just now exploring that possibility?
-
That's what I would look at. I have long suspected that many claims of having a "gluten reaction" to things labeled "gluten free" are actually reactions to other ingredients and additives or to the main component itself.
-
You would have done well to keep these thoughts to yourself as neither of them are true. You evidence a proclivity to lash out at others in this thread when they don't agree with you. For your information, the FDA-established limit for legitimately advertising a food item is 20ppm. That is based on a total gluten intake of 10mg per day: https://www.glutenfreedietitian...

Perhaps. But to test meds for incidental amounts of all those allergens would be expensive and drive the price of meds up.
-
As long as any of those allergens you list are not intentional ingredients I don't believe they would be required to list them as allergens under existing laws as long as they are not claiming to be "gluten free", "corn free", "soy free", "dairy free", ect. And I'm not sure the same allergen labeling regulations that exist for food apply to meds anyway. They...

LisaGayle, I don't understand your vitriolic reaction. Scott was just providing information and an opinion. And regarding Dr. Peter Osborne, Scott is correct. Osborne is speaking to issues he is not qualified as a chiropractor to address with any authority. We have had forum members in the past who were promoting some questionable ideas based on Osborne's...

GordieGeezer, What you experience is common to one degree or another. The explanation may be that there is a threshold for reaction to certain foods that if you space the consumption of them by a few days, your body is able to clear the offending proteins. I have a sensitivity to many common foods but with most all of them if I eat small portions and...

New member with interesting symptoms
trents replied to Emdoller's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, Emdoller! Neuropathy is a common symptom of both celiac disease and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). Though they share a number of common symptoms, there is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Celiac disease is diagnosed in two stages. The first is a blood test looking for antibodies produced by celiac... -

Herbs & seasonings
trents replied to KristieSp5293's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum, Kristie! The problem with spices, even single ingredient ones, is CC (Cross Contamination) which can happen if they are ground and processed with the same equipment as gluten-containing grains. There was an article on this forum several months ago where a study was done to determine the amount of cross contamination found in... -

Another source for grass fed meat products might be a butcher who deals with those who raise grass-fed beef. -

Help me with my test results please
trents replied to kab3706's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, kab3706! Your total IgA is not deficient. If total IgA is lower than normal it will skew individual IgA fractions downward, such as the Transglutaminase IgA Antibodies. So, this is not your problem and therefore your tTG-IGA at 0.9 U/mL is an accurate reading. Just from that limited amount of data , there is no indication you have... -
Because of the red, hot face and hands it sounds more like an allergic reaction than it does a glutening.

Six Ways Celiac Disease Can Kill You
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
It is true that most gluten free prepared foods are high in carbs and lower in nutritional value compared to their gluten counterparts. The wheat-based products used enriched an fortified flour as mandated by the FDA but no such requirement exists for gluten-free flours at this point in time in the US. Having said that, this may be a good time for you...- 60 comments

Gluten free ant acids
trents replied to Mike500's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum, Mike! Are you specifically asking about brand name Nexium or generic Omeprazole? Apparently, the brand name product may not gluten free (since 2010) but it is possible that some of the generic versions are. I find that I must contact the particular manufacture of the generics to explore this question and usually I get an answer... -
Help with Lab Results and diagnosis
trents replied to JJDN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not sure if a positive DPG-IGA occurs in other illnesses. But, you could trial a gluten free diet for a few weeks and see if your symptoms improve. But when you have multiple food allergies/sensitivities it can be difficult to sort things out. -
Help with Lab Results and diagnosis
trents replied to JJDN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, JJDN! It is not unusual for the tTG-IGA to be negative but one or more other celiac antibodies to be positive. I would not focus on the fact that the DGP-IGA is the only antibody test that was positive. It is too bad your physician did no also order an EMA. But if you have celiac disease we would expect the biopsy to be positive... -
Intravenous treatment
trents replied to RuthWill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It probably is but without calling the clinic/hospital and finding out what brand/product they use there is no way to tell for sure. Call the department where that is done and get them to check on that. Good question, though. -
Oats and granola are not necessarily gluten free because of the likelihood of cross contamination with wheat in the field, in transport, in storage and in processing. Milk is gluten free.
