How much gluten can she actually eat?
trents replied to TYH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Changing one thing at a time is always a wise strategy. But keep in mind that it can be a cumulative effect if you start adding other things with small amounts of gluten. It's not necessarily the amount of gluten in one food that is the issue but the total amount of gluten consumed say, in a 24 hr. period from all foods. The amount of barley malt in... -
Celiac disease
trents replied to Elenach96's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, Elenach96! Yes, we sometimes get reports of remission periods in celiac disease. Most often, however, they are not permanent. -
Costco's Kirkland Signature and Nature Made brands are good choices for vitamins and supplements and most of them are gluten free. They will say so clearly on the bottle if they are. Don't forget the D3 (2000-5000IU). Don't be shy about loading up on the B's. They are water soluble and you just pee out any excess.

Gluten free cornflakes: https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=Gluten+free+cornflakes&crid=QRMGPYKR5TYL&sprefix=gluten+free+cornflakes%2Caps%2C161&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 I have seen name brand gluten free cereals in the grocery store as well. Most major food companies like General Mills I believe have started to offer gluten-free versions of some of their... -

How much gluten can she actually eat?
trents replied to TYH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, TYH! Your question of how much gluten can your daughter actually eat cannot be answered with any certainty since individual celaics vary enormously in their tolerance to small amounts of gluten. This is the kind of thing that can only be answered by experimentation. But I must say I am uncomfortable with your approach. There... -
One thing to be aware of is that once you withdraw gluten from your diet and have been gluten free for sometime, you typically lose whatever tolerance for it you used to have such that you are much more sensitive to it when you do get glutened. Are you also supplementing with a B-complex, D3 and magnesium? If not you should be. The B vitamins as a group and...

Anyone here have problems with barium swallow?
trents replied to SadFace's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, SadFace! Just for the sake of clarity, have you been diagnosed with either celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity)? You don't say so I was just curious as to why you posted this question in a forum for folks with celiac disease and NCGS. -
Welcome to the forum, Bobs1234! Rather than going by a time table of being on gluten for X number of weeks, the key to getting an accurate biopsy with DH would be to have the biopsy taken while you are in the midst of an active outbreak. That can be very tricky since it is usually difficult to schedule appointments with specialists on the spur of the...

Emily, Just want to emphasize that if you will be needing to get another blood draw done to specifically check for celiac antibodies, you must have been eating regular amounts of gluten (2 slices of wheat bread daily or the gluten equivalent) for 6-8 weeks leading up to the blood draw. Many make the mistake of beginning the gluten free diet before all...

The most common blood antibody test for celiac disease that primary care docs order is the tTG-IGA but as you can see from the link I provided there are others that can be run and ideally, should be. Pernicious anemia is an autoimmune disorder that destroys the parietal cells in the stomach. The parietal cells secrete an enzyme known as "intrinsic factor...

Welcome to the forum, EmDerrane! In the blood testing that was done, were there any antibody tests ordered that are specifically designed to detect celiac disease? Here is a primer describing the tests that can be run to diagnose celiac disease: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening-and-diagnosis/screening/ Flattening of the villi that...

Welcome to the forum, Niccla! Could you clarify what blood tests you have already had done that are specific for celiac disease. The tests you name in your post are not specific for celiac disease. Here is a primer for celiac disease diagnostic testing: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening-and-diagnosis/screening/ But please... -
Should I get a different gi doctor?
trents replied to need7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, need7! It is unfortunate that your GI doc projects this attitude but the fact is this is the norm. There is just a lot of ignorance in the medical community regarding celiac disease and the chances of finding another doc who is more in tune with your celiac disease may not be that good. It would probably be a more fruitful... -
Type 2 Diabetes and gluten free diet
trents replied to Jillebjill's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jillebejill, Have you been giving attention to supplementation with vitamin and minerals to compensate for the inevitable deficiencies that celiac disease produces? The blunting of the small bowel villi it causes reduces the efficiency of vitamin and mineral absorption from the diet. -
Type 2 Diabetes and gluten free diet
trents replied to Jillebjill's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jillebjill, welcome to the forum! Can you link some articles that say people with type 2 diabetes should not go gluten free? The only connection I can think of is that gluten-free flours tend to be carby and are not enriched and fortified and generally don't have much fiber compared to their wheat/whole grain counterparts. Also, there is often a... -

Scott, the Instagram picture shows the gluten free message in the lower right corner of the box. The picture here: http://snooploopz.com/product/snoop-loopz-with-marshmellows of the "more marshmallows" product does not. Have they changed the formulation?- 10 comments

Pale colored stools in 1 year old
trents replied to MOMLIFE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes. Casein will be in all mammalian milk, lactaided or not. Lactaid breaks down the sugar in the milk, not the protein fractions. So, even if the sugar is broken down by lactaid, the casein could still be causing the problem. Failure to absorb fats is a symptom of celiac disease but there can be other causes as well. -

Yes, I see that claim everywhere but on the company website. I called Broadus Foods and the guy didn't know what I was talking about. He hung up on me.- 10 comments

Pale colored stools in 1 year old
trents replied to MOMLIFE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum, MOMLIFE! First, there is a very high incidence of dairy intolerance within the celiac disease/NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) population. Second, this intolerance may be due to the sugar component (lactose) in dairy or the protein component (casein). Many are not aware that casein can also be the issue and so only focus... -

Blindsided by positive test results
trents replied to Fairy92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the medical distress you experienced during pregnancy could definitely trigger active celiac disease if the genes are present. And knitty kitty raises an important issue connected with celiac disease, that being vitamin and mineral deficiencies. You would do well to invest in some gluten-free supplements, even now. That would not affect biopsy... -

I can't find a shot of the ingredient list but the company is advertising it as gluten free, apparently, and this website says the ingredients are corn and marshmallows: https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/snoop-loopz-snoop-dogg-launches-breakfast-cereal-sparks-memefest-online Can you link where you found the ingredient list?
