ARCHIVED What Is Considered A High Iga Number
penguin replied to minibabe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why is she doing a colonoscopy to test for celiac? You have to biopsy the small intestine to determine villi damage.. -
That's really funny! My local newspaper is running an ad campaign that is all about "Austin gets it" or "my grandparents have been 'getting it' for 50 years" or "I love 'getting it' when I get home after a long day at work" It's all very suggestive For a couple weeks, there were just these ads everywhere for "do you get it?" without what the ads were...

penguin replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree, nothing wrong with freckles!! I have lots across my nose and DH gets upset that I cover them up with makeup Did they apply it with the kabuki brush? That gives you a lot more coverage with the bare minerals! -
ARCHIVED Fading More Each Day
penguin replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As has been said before, there are many ups and downs in the healing process. You will have times where you feel like crap. I had about 3 weeks there where I could barely function because I was so tired. Hang in there, you're probably just detoxing and healing. Make sure everything is gluten-free. You may have other intolerances as well. As for the lumpy... -

ARCHIVED The Best Mousse Recipe Ever!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yay! I'm glad someone else liked it! I love the Simply Recipes blog. Total food porn Elise (the blogger on Simply Recipes) modifed the mousse from a cake recipe, actually. It's a Martha Stewart cake, here's the link: Open Original Shared Link Of course, you'd have to make it gluten-free, but it at least has assembly instructions I think... -

ARCHIVED Worried About My Weight
penguin replied to taz sharratt's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
that would drive me nuts. I know I'll NEVER have that problem, since I run on the opposite end of weight problems, but if I were in that situation, I would probably snap! I would likely say something like, "listen lady, I have a disease that makes me this thin, and it'll kill me if I'm not careful. I could eat half a cow and a field of corn for lunch and... -

ARCHIVED Desogen (sp?)
penguin replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kariva is definitely gluten-free, and definitely a third of the cost of the brand name desogen. I get mine 3 months at a time and it saves me tons of money. -
ARCHIVED Desogen (sp?)
penguin replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used it, but right now I'm on the generic, Kariva. It works well for me, and even better, you can skip periods on it! Wahoo! I love monophasic pills. It's given me almost no side effects. And it's gluten-free. The starch is corn. -

Eep! Just so you know, the grilled chicken at McDonald's is NOT gluten-free! Neither is the grilled chicken at Applebee's, it comes pre-marinated in soy sauce -

ARCHIVED So...what Libations Aren't gluten-free?
penguin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So there has been a lot of debate about distilled liquor and gluten-free etc. It is not my intention to start another one. For the purposes of this thread, we're going to assume that distilled liquor is gluten-free with the exception of those that add some of the mash back in. That said... Other than the obvious beer and malted beverages (such as Smirnoff... -

I read that too, for some reason they put barley in the strawberry flavor. I don't know about you, but I've never run across a strawberry that needed barley to enhance the flavor Stupid artificial flavorings -
