  1. Oprah did another one of her shows where she talks about poop and stuff with doctors. The one doctor (can't remember his name....is it Dr. Oz?) was talking about food "allergies" and mentioned lactose intolerance and wheat allergies as possible problems for one of the guests. I don't know if he meant gluten intolerance when he mentioned wheat, but he sure...
  2. Why can't dogs have grapes? I give my dog grapes once in a while because she loves them. She also loves to chase them around the house (like an edible ball). I don't want to keep giving them to her if they are bad for her. She also loves apples and carrots. btw, trader joes sells dehydrated chicken breasts for dogs that I think is gluten free.
  3. I use gluten free bread crumbs that I bought from Whole foods. I think it is just brown rice ground into a powder. I use about the same amount I used to use of regular bread crumbs. I also use the gluten free bread crumbs to make fried chicken breasts. I just blend some eggs in the blender with a little onion and garlic (and salt). I let the chicken...
  4. Thanks for everyones ideas! We didn't make it this weekend because it was too nice outside to be inside making cakes. This week is supposed to be cold and rainy so we will make it this week. I'm not sure if we will use one of the recipes posted or try one of the recommended mixes. It all depends on how much time we have. Oh....I used to make cream cheese...
  5. My daughter has been kind of down about being gluten intolerant. I told her she can still enjoy most of the things she loves. We went to a birthday party last Saturday and she was upset that she couldn't have any cake (I was going to buy the kids some gluten free cookies or something from the store, but it was closed when we got there). I told her that...
  6. The only ones to be tested in my family are me and my kids. Both mine and my son's blood test came back negative. I decided to test the kids through Enterolab and they both came back gluten intolerant. I didn't test myself because I already know I have gluten intolerance through dietary changes. I would like my husband to be tested for intolerances because...
  7. I probably wouldn't buy it because I don't like lighter tasting beer. Beer is one of those things I miss the most. I can find substitutes for most other things.....but gluten free beer isn't really the same. I tried one before and didn't really like it. I rather drink hard cider than gluten free beer.
  8. I'm going to have to look for them this week. I love Lara bars (and so do the kids). I keep a couple in the diaper bag just in case someone gets hungry. I keep telling my mom that I want to try to buy them by the box....now I can
  9. I'm so sorry you are having problems with your husband. My husband wasn't too against me being gluten free until the kids got diagnosed with gluten intolerance also. Then he seemed to think it was all a hoax. I told him that I'm not doing this to hurt me, the children or him. I want us to go totally gluten free at home for our health. And I also told...
  10. ....people roll their eyes at you when you say "no thank you" to someone's gluten filled desert (trust me....if I could eat carrot cake I would ...do I really have to explain gluten intolerance to everyone) .....you go to eat dinner at someone's house and all you eat is plain salad and corn on the cobb .....your DD asks you if you are sure you...
  11. My kids get Acetone breath once in a while. I actually posted about this on this board before. My DD usually only has it when she is sick (and not eating much), but my DS has it a lot more often. I just found out that both of them are gluten intolerant. I wonder if my DS was getting acetone breath because he wasn't absorbing enough nutrients (he is also...
  12. I'm sorry that your DD might have gluten intolerance. I just found out this week that both of my kids have it. I thought for sure DS had it, but I wasn't sure about DD. DS is 3 years old and still only weighs 28 lbs. He also has only had a few solid bowel movements. I was kind of scared of testing the kids because I know how hard being gluten free is...
  13. Well....I got rid of all the gluten containing food in my house. We went out and bought some gluten free treats for the kids so they don't feel like they are missing out. It is harder for DD because she is 8 and understands that she will have to give up some things. She is already upset because she will have to bring sack lunch everyday (I would never...
  14. Thanks everyone! That's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure. I gave up gluten cold turkey and didn't have any withdrawl symptoms. I hope the kids are the same way. I am going to clear out the cabinets when DS takes his nap. If he sees me getting rid of anything he might get upset or might want to eat it.
  15. I am wondering if I should just get rid of all the gluten-containing food in our house or should I wean the kids from gluten slowly. I have heard that some people can have "withdrawl" from gluten if they give it up too fast. What have other people done? I don't plan on buying anymore gluten food, but should I throw or give away all the gluten food I have...
  16. I think my MIL makes cream of mushroom soup without using cream. I asked her how she makes it (because it is really good) and she said she just blends the mushrooms in the blender after cooking them. I thought for sure she used cream. I will try to get the recipe from her. She is one of those people that doesn't use recipes though, so I'm not sure if...
  17. Going gluten free can be very expensive. I started out buying lots of specialty foods, but now I have learned how to make most foods gluten free without spending tons of money. I stopped buying gluten free bread. I just wasn't crazy about it and bread is one thing you can learn to live without. I still buy gluten free pasta, but we just don't use it all...
  18. Gluten Sensitivity Stool Test Fecal Antigliadin IgA 20 (Normal Range <10 Units) Interpretation of Fecal Antigliadin IgA: Intestinal antigliadin IgA antibody was elevated, indicating that you have active dietary gluten sensitivity. For optimal health, resolution of symptoms (if you have them), and prevention of small intestinal damage and malnutrition...
  19. At this Trader Joes they have all the types of Puffins labeled as gluten free and they don't even sell the kind that is really gluten free. I know it confused me because I saw the Puffins labeled as gluten free at Trader Joes, but I noticed it didn't say gluten free on the box when I was going to buy them from Jewel. I am thinking about e-mailing Trader...
  20. I buy vitamins that say that and I think they are gluten free. What would be the point of them saying they don't add gluten if they weren't gluten free? Maybe the company is just trying to be careful about saying gluten-free because of CC issues. It might be the same as companies saying food is "made with gluten free ingredients". Many companies are afraid...
  21. I went to Trader Joes yesterday to buy some groceries. There prices are so much cheaper than Whole Foods, so I try to buy most of my food from there. We were in the cereal section and right on the sign under the boxes of Puffins it says "Wheat Free Gluten Free". I remember being confused about Puffins before. I know I saw somewhere that it said they were...
  22. My son has had soft stools his whole life. I don't know if they would be considered diarrhea, but they aren't solid. I asked his doctor about it and she said it is probably normal for him. She didn't want to do the Celiac blood test, but she did because I kept asking her about it. The blood test came back normal, but I decided to try Enterolab because...
  23. Thanks everyone. The thing is that I have been gluten free for about 6 or 7 months now so feel that I should know better. I ususally check everything and won't eat stuff if I'm not sure it is gluten free. I don't know if it is the brain fog from getting glutened the first time because I will usually forget to check labels a couple of times after that....
  24. I can't believe I keep glutening myself in stupid ways. Yesterday I was eating some herring that my husband bought. As I was eating it, I kept thinking to myself "you should check the ingredients first". So after eating 4 or 5 pieces, I check the ingredients. Of course it say "Contains Wheat" in bold print. I did the same thing last week. Why can't...
  25. I was kind of shocked when I went to Mexico because none of the meat is refridgerated (at the mercado or market). The thing is that all the meat is fresh. It is also kind of cool in that section of the market. Another thing is that the eggs aren't in the refridgerator section. They just have them sitting on a shelf (and this is at a big grocery store...
