  1. I go to college at night, so I have the problem of eating dinner. I usually bring a Lara bar with me (which I found for much cheaper at Costco) or a little bag of nuts and a piece of fruit. If people start getting rude about you not being able to eat certain things, then don't hang out with them. I have found most people to be very supportive (especially...
  2. I said no to the Hep B vaccine for my youngest. I also spaced out some of his shots. He gets sick EVERY time he gets vaxed. It is strange since my DD never got sick from vaccines. No one in my house gets the flu shot and none of us have had the flu. Now since someone brought up going to work sick....how come I hear of people who never miss a day...
  3. Thanks everyone! I have a gift card for the mall by my house, so I will look for bread machines there. I am just so sick of buying frozen bread. I can't wait to try my bread machine when I buy it! I will be back for recipes
  4. Thanks for everyones replies! I will be making his foods most days and sending gluten-free snacks. We went there today and all the kids were eating snacks off of big plates that were on each table. I just hope he doesn't get upset that his snacks are a little different. I will try to get him things that are the same, but it is sometimes hard. It is hard...
  5. I had no idea that one brand of herring I bought had gluten in it until I ate quite a few pieces. It seems like gluten is in everything!
  6. I am thinking of buying a bread machine, but I would like one that has a gluten free bread setting. Do most of them have this setting? Can anyone recommend a machine that makes good gluten free bread? I remember having a bread machine when we were younger and all the wonderful breads that we made. I think we would get good use out of it since the kids...
  7. I do the same thing! After being glutened, I think "Gluten is evil! I will never eat it again!" Then I will go a couple of months of being gluten free. Then I will slip one way or the other (usually going out to eat.....can never be 100% sure of CC or going to eat at someone else's house....can't always trust when someone says something is gluten free...
  8. My son is starting daycare soon. I am nervous about the whole thing since he has never really been away from me with anyone but family. My daughter did great in daycare, but she was younger when she started and was more independent than he is. We will have a meeting with the daycare next Monday and I will tell them about the gluten intolerance thing. ...
  9. I like gluten free bread crumbs (which is just ground brown rice) and I just add my own spices. The kids like it. I just soak the chicken breasts in a couple of scrambled eggs that have a little bit of salt and garlic. Then I sqeeze out the excess liquid, dip in the bread crumbs and fry in a pan. I haven't tried baking in the oven yet, but I'm sure that...
  10. I agree! I think I will make those this weekend.
  11. I am starting to run out of ideas for lunch. But these are some of the things I have sent with DD before.... shrimp cocktail pancakes with syrup peanut butter sandwich leftovers from night before scrambled eggs w/cheese grilled cheese sandwich apple w/peanut butter chicken or beef taquitos quesadillas salad
  12. I sure don't look at gluten-filled food the same way that I used to. Now looking a big piles of bread and donuts makes me feel a little sick. I even get a little scared to eat donuts and stuff I know for sure are gluten free.
  13. I also noticed Gluten-free food at a lot more places. It is so exciting!!!
  14. I got sick several times from McDonalds fries. I don't if it is the grease or CC. I don't eat fried foods that often because most fried foods aren't gluten free (unless I make them myself which I am usually too lazy to do).
  15. The Alexia oven fries are really good and gluten free. I buy them at Costco. I always cook them a little longer than the package says because I like my fries really crispy. The kids also love them. DD begs me to make them.
  16. I think giving people information about Celiac disease/gluten intolerance is the best idea. My MIL had a problem with the kids (and me) being gluten free until she read an article about gluten intolerance. Now she is much more supportive. SIL even had flan for her birthday because my kids can't eat regular cake. Everyone agreed that they actually like...
  17. We went to Da Luciano's the weekend after Thanksgiving and it was great. They have a whole gluten free menu and I saw someone holding one at almost every table. We ordered pizza and the kids really liked it. The gluten free pizzas are personal pizzas so everyone got to order their own. They also have a gluten free cannoli which DD really liked. She still...
  18. I had pain that bad after going on a gluten binge one weekend. This was after being gluten free for a while and feeling better. I though I might be able to have gluten once in a while (yeah right!). The pain was so bad I couldn't walk. I have been though unmedicated labor twice and it was almost as bad as that. I thought I was going to explode. I knew...
  19. Thanks for everyone's replies. I really don't want to have DS go back on gluten. I know I am gluten intolerant even though my blood tests were negative. I am thinking about asking the GI doctor if they could test the fat in his stool (since they are doing a stool test anyway). Then they can test it again once he goes off gluten for a while. It isn't...
  20. My DH says that I always feel really hot. I am always really cold though. The only thing that doesn't feel hot are my feet and hands. My hands are always cold.
  21. Have you tried Uva Ursi? It is an herbal supplement. My mom suggested it when I had a really bad bladder infection and no insurance. That plus lots of cranberry juice cleared it up. You could google it to see more information about it. I hope you are feeling better soon!
  22. I know! I didn't know that all my anxiety could be caused by gluten. Most of it is gone as long as I stay gluten free. I used to sit up nights worrying about one thing I said earlier that day. It was very strange. I can't believe I used to live like that all the time. I was really stressed out. Now when people say "oh I'm so sorry you can't eat (whatever...
  23. DH wasn't too convinced of the results from Enterolab (which were positive), so I agreed to get an opinion from a doctor about our son. Our son is 3 and has only had a few solid BMs his whole life. The only time his BMs got better was after he went gluten free (it has been about a month). He is also on the small side (5% for weight and 10-15% for height...
  24. Does anyone know about the ham from Costco? I think it is Kirkland brand. I was thinking about making one for Christmas, but I would like to make sure it is gluten free.
  25. I just wanted to say to be careful about what is labeled gluten free. At the Trader Joe's by our house, they have Puffins marked as gluten free when they aren't (except for the Honey Rice ones). I told the manager about it, but they didn't change it when I went back. I already mentioned it on this message board, but I'm not sure if you read that post....
