  1. I did a presentation for Biology about Celiac Disease. A lot of people said they found it interesting since most people don't know much about Celiac. Good luck on your presentation!
  2. Have you tried Avocados? My son didn't like them as a baby, but would eat them if they were mixed with some sort of fruit. I would mash them and then mix them with apples or peaches. You could also blend some chicken or beef in the blender with veggies for her. I wouldn't worry too much about her getting solids right now. My son didn't eat many solids...
  3. Thanks for this recipe! My DH loves my banana bread, but I haven't made any since going gluten-free. I think I might make two of them and share them so everyone can see gluten-free food can be good.
  4. Everyone in my house loves Tinkyada. The first time I made it my husband asked what I was going to eat because he couldn't believe it was gluten-free. That is the only gluten free pasta we will eat now. I have to try the lasagna noodles. I used to make lasagna all the time before going gluten free. My husband has been asking for some, but I am scared...
  5. This is very interesting. I keep telling my mom about the connection between schizophrenia and Celiac. I wonder if he could be gluten intolerant since I am and it runs in the family. I was hoping that going gluten free might help with his schizophrenia. Thanks for posting this.
  6. That is strange because mine smelled the same way for a while. I also noticed that they smell like food (like it wasn't digested all the way) when I eat somethin with gluten. Very strange.
  7. I am pretty sure I got the gene from my mom's side. She is from Sweden and said that my grandma had GI problems her whole life. My mom also has some GI problems, but doesn't seem to want to go gluten free. I had some symptoms my whole life (like anemia), but didn't get GI problems until 2 years after the birth of my second child. Luckily I figured out...
  8. ((((((HUGS))))))) I'm sorry you daughter isn't doing well right now, but atleast she is getting the treatment she needs.
  9. Thanks for everyone's replies. I think I understand it a little better. The IgE thing makes sense to me. I just don't want someone to ask me about it and not know how to explain it to them.
  10. I'm still kind of confused why Celiac is not considered an allergic reaction. I have even saw allergic reactions mentioned on some websites that were describing Celiac. I am doing a presentation on Celiac this next week and I want to know how to describe the difference to people. That is the only thing I have having problems understanding. Thanks for...
  11. I didn't know what TMJ was, but now that I looked up the symtoms I think I have it. I had horrible jaw pain before going gluten free. And my jaw always felt really tight. The pain and tightness went away after going gluten-free, but I ate some gluten (on purpose) a couple of weeks ago and the pain and tightness is back. My mom is a Chiro, so I should...
  12. I had anxiety before going gluten free. Now it comes back whenever I eat something with gluten. I didn't really know how bad it was until it went away. I would lay in my bed forever just worrying about little things. Now I feel much better (as long as I can stay gluten free).
  13. I was reading my new issue of Psychology Today yesterday and I was happy to see Celiac disease mentioned. I will type out what it says.... A Shadowy Ailment It often masquerades as depression, a learning problem or even ADHD. Celiac disease is one of the most common and most underdiagnosed autoimmune disorders in the United States. A recent study...
  14. I don't really have any advice, but I just wanted to say I will be keeping your daughter in my thoughts. I hope she is doing better soon! Maybe it is just too soon and she will be improving soon.
  15. I made the recipe the other day and it was really good and really easy to make. I put other veggies in there because I didn't have exactly what the recipe called for. I also just made wild rice instead of the one it called for (I think it was jasmine which I didn't have). The kids and DH really liked it. Thanks again!
  16. That sounds really good. I think I will make it tonight. Thanks!
  17. I'm not sure if my periods changed from going gluten free because I got an IUD around the same time. Last month my period lasted 2 weeks! Most of the days were light though. I hope my body is just getting used to the IUD because I can't take having my period last that long. I though having it for 5-7 days was bad enough.
  18. Thanks everyone! I'm going to talk to my mom about him going gluten free. It might be hard since he has a bad memory (from the meds) and might not remember all the time to check labels (I forget sometimes). He is also very skinny and has problems gaining weight. He is about 160 and is 6 feet tall. And he had asthma, food allergies, and many ear infections...
  19. When I go out to eat sushi, I bring my own wheat-free soy sauce. There is an all-you-can-eat sushi place by my mom's that is sooo good (and cheap). Does anyone know about miso soup? It comes free with the meal at that place, but I didn't eat it because I didn't know if it was gluten free or not. Thanks
  20. I don't know, but I hope so since I have Eczema (I hope it goes away since I am now gluten free). I know that Celiac/gluten intolerance can cause a bunch of skin problems. I sure eczema could be one of them.
  21. I am curious about if anyone has heard of a link between Celiac and Schizophrenia. My brother has been Schizophrenic for about 10 years now. My mom said that she read somewhere that there was a link between the two. I did a search on the internet and some studies do show a link (and some studies don't). Does anyone know anyone who has schizophrenia and...
  22. I just wanted to tell you about my doctor testing for Celiac. I had been having stomach problems for about 6 months (plus many other problem that I didn't know could be related for years). I told my doctor about it and he did a blood test. The test came back negative. He suggested that I could go to a GI specialist. I told him that I had already been...
  23. I have been having stomach problems for a while, so I decided to ask my doctor to test me for Celiac (after my mom mentioned that it might be a possiblity). He did a blood test, but it came back negative. I'm not sure if he tested for everything because he kind of told me that he didn't ask for one of the tests (he might have forgot). He said that he could...
  24. When I worked as a waitress the tonic was NOT out of a bottle. It came from the gun. And beware because some juices also come from the gun.
  25. I don't like La Choy, but i really like the San-J. I used to buy the wheat free one before I even though of having a gluten intolerance. It is a little stronger than regular soy sauce though.
