ARCHIVED So It Looks Like I Have Crohn's
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hmmm. I had requested (begged was more like it) the celiac blood tests after getting that horrible rash (I still think it was DH) and finding all the info linking DH and celiac and Hashimoto's (which I'd had for 18 years). However, I had been gluten-free for a month before the test (didn't realize it made a difference, and the idiot doctor certainly didn... -
ARCHIVED I Am Now Treated For Low Thyroid
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Ursa Major's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you , Ursula, for posting all this information (and you too, Georgie). This is something I ought to look into once my shoulder is fully recovered. I have been feeling very good energy-level wise, but I have been unusually cold recently--and I have always worn socks to bed (much to my DH's amusement)!. I need to get a decent thermometer and start... -
Just out of curiosity, why are you whey-free?

ARCHIVED So It Looks Like I Have Crohn's
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gee, I wonder if those of us who have only elevated IgG's will join you in the Crohn Club I guess I'd better read up on it some more... -
ARCHIVED Do I Belong Here?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Nini--the best test is to try the gluten-free diet and see if you have a good response. Blood tests can have false negatives, as can biopsies, so I don't really see any reason to go there unless the gluten-free diet doesn't change anything for you. If it makes no difference, you can always go back on gluten later. I totally freaked out when... -
ARCHIVED I Didn't Know I Was Supposed To Refrigerate Maple Syrup
Fiddle-Faddle replied to elaine33's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I grew up having only tasted the real maple syrup. The first time I tried Aunt Jemima and Log Cabin brands of syrup, I was shocked how sicky-sweet and chemically they tasted. Ugh. -

ARCHIVED So It Looks Like I Have Crohn's
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Why is an elevated IgG an indication of Crohn's? I'm not being argumentative, it's just that that is also MY only elevated level. If IgG is specific for gliadin, which is wheat, what is the connection with Crohn's? (I need an emoticon of a someone scratching their head in puzzlement.) -
ARCHIVED Starting A Gluten-free Diet
Fiddle-Faddle replied to janie-b's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Janie, that's great! I'm so glad you are feeling better AD losing weight! I have the same can't keep my eyes open past 9 thing, too--never thought of connecting it to gluten-free diet, but who knows. And I am sleeping much better, too! I have an easier time getting up in the morning than I used to. This cornmeal breakfast bread sounds yummy... -
Unfortunately, the other side of the story is that the people who are at the most risk of getting seriously ill from the flu are also at the most risk of getting seriously ill from the flu shot.

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Amy Tan would be a wonderful spokesperson for Lyme. We could write to her care of whoever publishes her books...or maybe she has a website? I wonder if she ever had any gluten problems, too? -

Weren't you doing a gluten challenge a while back? Could that have played a role, inflamed things or something? -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Does tooth-grinding factor into this as well? My mother has ground her teeth for so many years, some of them are down to little stubs. She had years of diarrhea, but stable weight, and diagnoses of IBS and Crohn's were bandied about--but she insists that she is fine now. And, interestingly, she hardly ever served pasta (once every couple of months... -
ARCHIVED So It Looks Like I Have Crohn's
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh, Penguin, I'm so sorry you had such a lousy day. I just looked up Crohn's. Is it possible that it is some sort of offshoot of celiac? How do they separate the symptoms of Crohn's from the symptoms of celiac? It looked like pretty much the same symptoms (but I only looked up one site). Does this mean you don't have celiac? Or do you have... -
I don't know if there is any way to tell how it would affect you. Some people seem to do extremely well with flu shots. I don't, though, and I have read posts here from others who have gotten terribly ill from flu shots. The two years I did get the flu shot were the the two years I was sickest in my whole life. As soon as I stopped getting the flu shot...

ARCHIVED Does Anybody Have Itchy, Bumpy Eyes Due To Celiac?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Alohastar's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had the itchy bumpy eyes as a reaction to an eyedrop that was preserved with thimerosal--which contains mercury. Once I discontinued the eyedrop, it went away. -
ARCHIVED Why Is This So Unknown?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Curious121's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do we really NEED a drug for celiac? Or do we just need there to be enough decent gluten-free options that we don't have to worry about what we're gonna eat if we forget to bring lunch to work? Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry is more willing to spend $ on drug research, rather than publicity for a condition that is caused by a food that has... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Flour Question
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Kirian's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As long as you are adding butter and milk anyway, if you can't find the topping, you can just add a bag of shredded cheddar and a couple of spoonfuls of cornstarch dissolved in milk. I think it tastes better than the powder anyway, and if you use canned evaporated milk, it comes out SO creamy--yum yum yum! -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Flour Question
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Kirian's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Heidi, thank you for posting that info--VERY interesting! I am very ticked off, though, that they would charge 8 bucks for a pound an a half. Did you look at the ingredients? It's just rice flour, tapioca flour, xanthan gum, and gelatin. Rice flour and tapioca flour we can get for less than a dollar a pound. Xanthan gum is expensive, but a pound... -

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You know, I was wondering, if (in the interest of scientificness), we should just conduct some of our own research here. Maybe we could tally up everything we have in common--and everything we don't--and see what the numbers spit out at us. Surely we could come up with something more meaningful than what we've been offered by the medical community. For... -
ARCHIVED Gurgling Stomach
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Kristen2Denise's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
