  1. Welcome, Molly!!!! I hope things get easier for you, and please let us know whatever questions we can answer to help you! I hope your two-year-old regains his words. If not, check back in--many of us have kids with autism (I don't want to scare you, but losing language is a classic sign--don't freak out, because everything just might be fine, especially...
  2. Welcome, Amy! No, it's not unreasonable to want to try the diet. While most here have not had trouble with endoscopies, it IS an invasive procedure and has risks, especially for little ones. The anesthesia alone is a big risk, and I wouldn't consider it for my children, either. The IgG is indeed a red flag. You do NOT need a doctor's permission to...
  3. Endoscopies don't ALWAYS provide definitive answers. Villi damage may be patchy, and if your doctor only looked at/biopsied NON-damaged patches, he might have missed present damage. Why don't you post a list of what you are eating? It took most of us a few months to figure out that foods that we thought were gluten-free actually did have gluten....
  4. You can't get glutened from soy, you can only get glutened from gluten!!!!
  5. I was pretty sure you wouldn't have been nuking plastic, but you never know. There are so many OFFICIAL "microwave-safe" plastic containers out and about these days--and from what I've read, ALL of them leach chemicals into your food (but the plastic doesn't melt all over your microwave, so I suppose it IS perfectly safe both for the container and for your...
  6. Hi, Rachel, quick drive-by!! Just wanted to make sure you are not popping the plastic bottle in the microwave--you're not, are you? Plastic IS supposed to be "microwav-safe," but that just means you won't destroy the bottle or the microwave. The plastic decomposes slightly, and chemicals leach into your food or liquid, so ALWAYS use china! Georgie...
  7. That's adorable! (THough I have to point out, we can make just about everything shown except phyllo dough. and someone will probably figure that out, too!)
  8. You can use any conditioner as a leave-in detangler--the ingredients are the same, just the packaging and price are different. I use Garnier Fructis--it works just fine.
  9. Looks wonderful!! Is this for a 1 1/2 pound loaf or a 2 pound loaf?
  10. Drink. Seriously. As much hot tea and chicken soup and hot lemonade as you can get down. Whatever germs you don't drown, you will pee out and flush away!!!! (No kidding, it really does work, better than anything you can buy from the pharmaceutical industry.)
  11. Rachel, is there something AT HOME that's making you sick? Mold, maybe? (Sorry for parachuting in, I've been lurking, trying to keep up...)
  12. Tanya, how did things go on the 29th? Is everything okay?
  13. Pregnancy does something to the ligaments--stretches them temporarily or something like that. That might very well have something to do with your joint pain. Ask your doctor if you can go to physical therapy to learn some safe, gentle stretching exercises to help warm up and strengthen your muscles to help support your poor aching joints. One-on-one instruction...
  14. Thoughts and prayers sent!
  15. For what it's worth, when my daughter threw tantrums, I would take her into my walk-in closet, close the door, and sit in the dark holding her until she stopped--which sometimes felt like forever, but each time was less. The quiet, the dark, and Mommy holding her seemed to make a lot of difference. She needed a lot of verbal preparation for everything...
  16. I'm guessing she is okay because they told her they removed the whole thyroid--but she only started needing hormone replacement in the last few years. They must have left a piece of the thyroid in there and it continued to produce adequate hormone til recently (she is now in her 70's).
  17. Why is having the thyroid removed a fate worse than death? My mother had hers removed 40 years ago, and she's been fine.
  18. Welcome, Linds, I have a colleague who had done a lot of figure skating in her teens. She is in her thirties--and just had both hips replaced. I believe she said it was something congenital, but that it had been severely aggravated by the skating. I have no idea if she has gluten issues or not, but I will try to find out. Not having answers can be...
  19. I know that this is the standard thought amongst the MD's--that it is hard on the body to reintroduce. But in my own experience, it just doesn't add up. I am one of those who had nearly silent digestive reactions--but other autoimmune problems. When I cheated (twice ), I didn't react at all. And that was several months into the gluten-free diet. ...
  20. Georgie, here is a link to the last page (there are over 9000 posts!) of the thread. Skim back over the last 100 posts or so (lots of them are very short). There really are a lot of very, very interesting ideas. Or maybe you can pm Rachel, Rinne, or some of the others who have been diagnosed with Lyme. Apparently, Lyme is not only prevalant in the supposedly...
  21. Add me to the "lazy eye" list--the doctors couldn't seem to agree if it was strabismus or ambliyopia, but either way, I've never been able to properly see 3-D. I flunked the exercises, and did not want surgery--somehow, the idea of letting anyone near my eye with a sharp instrument was not appealing.
  22. They might not be out in the wild, but they are outdoors, with grass, trees, etc.
  23. The Pittsburgh zoo has a petting area for the children, with lots of deer.
  24. Sophiekins, that was just fabulous--clear, concise, and well-written. I was wondering if you had ever thought of putting it into thesis/research paper format, with documentation, etc? Then we would all have something to wave in our doctors' faces THAT THEY COULDN'T ARGUE WITH OR IGNORE!!! Heck, then you could send it to the media!!!!! If this hit the...
  25. Ursula and Georgie, I was wonodering if either of you saw the discussion of Lyme on the (long) OMG thread started by Rachel? Today, Rinne posted something very interesting: "One symptom of Lyme is the feeling that we are losing our mind. Think about it, it is literally true, once the bugs establish themselves they can do all sorts of things like turn...
