  1. She has a website with many of the recipes: Open Original Shared Link
  2. Make VERY sure that you avoid citrus and tomatoes (especially tomato sauces--very acidic). For that matter, ANY fruit juice should be avoided (they all have vitamin C added--which is citric acid); sodas are also highly acidic). For some weird reason, bananas also gave me bad reflux, never figured out why, as I can't think of anything blander than a banana...
  3. Hi Lyza, welcome to the board! I just wanted to add that leg tingles could be purely mechanical--if something is pressing on your sciatic nerve, that could cause either pain or tingling in the legs. A good chiropractor can adjust your spine or loosen a tight muscle that might be causing this (but beware, there are useless and even bad chiropractors...
  4. This is what I have made for the last 2 Thanksgivings (2 Turkey breasts). It turned out better than any other meal I have ever made, and as I remember, it is practically gluten-free anyway. Just substitute cornstarch or gluten-free flour for the flour, and use gluten-free bread cubes for the stuffing muffins. (Make or buy a couple of loaves now, cube them...
  5. You can find them at Open Original Shared Link. You can also sign up for her free email newsletter, which usually has a recipe or two on it. Scott, if you are reading this, would you consider putting a link to her website on yours?
  6. Also, chicken pox has been going around since at least a year ago, in spite (some people say because of) the vaccine. Over half my son's elementary school had it last year--but if you weren't actually at the school, you'd never know--it was kept very hush-hush. The school eventually sent around a note saying only that "a few students have come down with...
  7. that's hysterical!!! I had the most hideous rash on my arms I've ever seen--looked like really bad poison ivy (but it was January and 15 degrees and I hadn't been doing anything outside), red oozing blisters that itched and burned, and they were totally symmetrical. the only photos on lkine that looked remotely like what I had were poison ivy--and...
  8. I don't think you are weird, I think you should listen to your gut! The biopsy is only a gold standard if they happen to biopsy an area that is damaged. Not all villi will be damaged at the exact same rate; some might be perfectly normal while others are flattened. And if you have been off gluten anyway, whatever damage you did have is likely to be...
  9. That's the great thing about this board--you can find people who have faced the same (or at least, similar) challenges as you--and a wide variety of different choices. The people who have chosen to get biopsies (most of whom report that it wasn't so bad) seem to be very comfortable with that decision, as are the people who chose not to. I have actually...
  10. I NEVER said that I thought that gluten in the skin causes DH. I asked whether gluten is present in the skin for those of us who have DH. I asked about it because one of the the original questions of this thread was whether or not gluten could be in meat. They are both valid questions; I was not jumping to any conclusions about cause and effect. I believe...
  11. I NEVER said that gluten in the skin is the cause of DH, nor that they should be looking for it rather than IGA, in the skin, in the tissues below the skin, or anywhere else. My point was that I could not find any indication that anyone has even wondered if it IS in the tissues below the skin or on the skin, let alone conducted a study about it. Do I need...
  12. Me, too! Me, too! I saw the most wonderful poster at a synagogue once. It said: What part of "Thou shalt not" don't you understand? Oh, they have been doing this for years, now--at least 8 by our experience. When my son was diagnosed as autistic, and needed speech therapy and OT, we were covered for EIGHT sessions. That...
  13. Hey guys--Hawkfire raised some interesting issues and some legitimate questions. While I do think that 2kids4me provided an enormous amount of concrete information that answers almost every question, I do NOT think that anybody ought to be bashing Hawkfire. There is a difference between treating someone with kindness and respect--even if you don't agree...
  14. You are absolutely correct--that is what they look for. However, I don't trust "them" any further than I can throw the bathtub; I don't think "they" know what the heck they are doing. So for all we know, gluten itself might be present in our skin, but "they" have never bothered to look. There's an awful lot of things "they" have never bothered to look...
  15. I suppose I should not even be surprised--but I am shocked. How did our medical system get THIS bad????
  16. Thank you for the links--very informative. They don't, however either confirm or rule out whether gluten itself is present in our skin. I bet nobody's ever looked for it before.
  17. Just wondering--is gluten present in OUR skin when we have DH flareups? Or is it just the antibody to gluten? Do pigs(or any other animals besides humans) produce antibodies to gluten, or is it just us?
  18. Wow--Great!!!! I especially love #1. That's just basic human decency for any situation, not just chronic illness. I remember being told when I had severe hyperemesis and had to be IV'ed because I couldn't even keep water down, everyone kept saying, "You can't be sick, you look great!" I do have a quibble for #2, though. I wish someone would have said...
  19. Thanks, Betsy--I always wondered what to do with those icons. I am not at this point planning on starting any threads, but I appreciate your tutorial!
  20. Thank you for the good idea. What exactly is a hyperlink, and how do you do it?
  21. This is getting extremely frustrating. Judy, if someone on this thread had posted that we shouldn't be pointing fingers at gluten, and that you are responsible for all the damage gluten has done to your body, isn't there a chance that you might feel as outraged as I do about Hez's comment about the vaccine manufacturers? Two of my children were OFFICIALLY...
  22. (To keep this on topic--I just sent my thanks in to Heidi Collins as well!)
  23. You certainly have a point. I would agree that we are lucky to have some of the drugs on the market. However, 90% of pediatric ear infections are viral. How many people do you know who were ORDERED by their pediatricians to give their children antibiotics to "clear up the infection?" And even the 10% of ear infections that turn out to be bacterial-...
  24. Perhaps an even greater problem than one barbarian is the fact that 10 or 20 basically nice kids will go along with the barbarian. We only need to look at Western Europe in the 1930's and 1940's to see what can happen--and if you don't think that this doesn't happen in nearly every school, public or private, than I bet the parents of one or two children...
