ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
AliB, I agree with you 100%, especially about the genetics.. I would only add that, while these rogue bacteria probably play a role in many health problems, including celiac, I don't think that they are the only trigger. Remember, some people have celiac (and other autoimmune conditions) triggered from PHYSICAL stress, such as being in a car accident... -
ARCHIVED Dientamoeba Fragilis & Blastocystis Hominis
Fiddle-Faddle replied to wcc84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for posting this! I'm sure that there are many people here whom this might help. It sounds like this is a treatable, yet under-diagnosed (or NEVER-diagnosed!) condition, similar to Lyme disease. Do we ALL have these bugs in our systems, and only a few have severe reactions, or do only an unlucky percentage have them? How does this bug... -
Is Wellbutrin gluten-free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to bearodilla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bupropion (generic Welbutrin)has been linked to seizures in about four out of a thousand patients who were given up to 450 mg/day. Other possible side effects include: anxiety, headache, hyperactive sweating, constipation, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dry mouth and blurred vision. Other side effects that are less common but more serious include: palpitations... -
You're right, that pharmacist sounded very un-knowledgable! He also should have told you that cold medicines actually aren't recommended for young children any more. When you think about it, probably nobody should take them--they do mask or partially stop the symptoms of a cold somewhat, but those symptoms, while annoying, are actually doing a job...

ARCHIVED Post Egd/gluten-challenge Rant
Fiddle-Faddle replied to julirama723's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Julirama, you have the right to ask for copies of all your records, including the OR records from your procedure, and including the report of the analysis of the tissue sample. I was told over the phone that my blood work for celiac was negative. when in fact my IgG was through the roof. Some doctors are idiots, plain and simple. -
ARCHIVED Questions For Old Timers
Fiddle-Faddle replied to MHD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ONe of my very first posts when I joined was to mention that my blood test results were inconsistent (I had been gluten-free already for a month, but still my IgG was through the roof), and my reactions to occasional gluten were very mild, so I wondered if I could cheat. Several old-timers immediately gave me their life-stories--similar to Ravenwoodglass... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know How To Remedy My Constipation
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Interesting info about the magnesium, Amber. What CAUSES magnesium deficiency? Once you are back on track, do you have to keep taking magnesium supplements, or can you start eating foods rich in magnesium? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
from the Celiac Sprue Association: "What is Dermatitis Herpetiformis? Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) is an important associated disorder or complication of celiac disease which is manifested in the form of a skin rash. There is strong evidence that the changes in the intestinal mucosa and the immunologic findings in the majority of patients diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know How To Remedy My Constipation
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I didn't recommend berries, bananas, apples, or citrus! Stone fruits are what they recommend for babies with constipation--not any of the above fruits. It sounds like stone fruits are the only fruit you tolerate, so why not give yourself some variety and try peaches, plums, mangoes, etc. But only introduce one new one at a time (which is what... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Shopping Tips
Fiddle-Faddle replied to tj's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My supermarket sells corn tortillas in a big bag of 100 tortillas for $4.99. They make great wraps, pizza crusts, egg rolls, samosas, and even calzones--but you have to heat them up individually first. For egg rolls, and calzones make a kind of paste with gluten-free flour and water to glue them shut before frying/baking. Many of us bake our own gluten... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know How To Remedy My Constipation
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Once the constipation is taken care of, keep an eye on the bladder issues. The frequent urination might start a kind of muscle memory/habit sort of thing, where the muscles get USED to going every 10 minutes, and then they feel like they have to even when the bladder is empty. The fix for that is NOT "over-active bladder meds," but just making yourself... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know How To Remedy My Constipation
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
STONE FRUITS! Those are fruits with "stones," or pits, rather than seeds, such as peaches, pears, apricots, mangoes, plums, etc. I think fresh is always best; however, this is not peach season, so canned might taste better right now. I'd eat at least one piece of fruit at every meal and snack. Dried stone fruit is good, too--for years and years, prunes... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for the interesting information. You'll notice that the article you quoted called DH a form of celiac disease, not non-celiac gluten intolerance. My point was that there could be many forms of celiac disease that don't necessarily affect the intestines, not just DH. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, it is not exclusive to the small intestines, because DH is recognized as celiac, and, as I've explained above, many DH sufferers do not have small intestine problems. -
ARCHIVED Clould This Be The Answer?!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's very interesting, Barb, thanks for posting it. Are there any easily absorbable food sources of B12, or is sub-lingual B12 the only option? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Except what about DH???? DH sufferers often have NO villi damage, yet all doctors are in agreement that DH is a definitive diagnosis of celiac disease, with or without villi damage. SO--we know that celiac disease is an autoimmune reaction that CAN bypass the intestines and attack the skin. So why is it such a stretch to think that it can also attack... -
ARCHIVED Which Formula Is gluten-free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mandigirl1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also wanted to mention that all three of my kids were in daycare part-time. They were the only kids there who were breastfed past the time that they started daycare(9 weeks old), and all 3 of them got sick WAY, WAY less often than the other kids there. One year, many of the kids in the infant room with my daughter ended up admitted to Children's Hospital... -
ARCHIVED Which Formula Is gluten-free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mandigirl1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Advantages Of Breast Milk (from thenewparentsguide.com): Pediatricians, midwives, nurses and even formula manufacturers all agree that breastfeeding is the best thing for your baby. With breast milk containing the perfect amount of antibodies, water, fat, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, served at the perfect temperature and in the perfect... -
It looks great, Gentleheart! Thank you so much for all you've done. Do you think it would be a bad idea to send it by registered mail, so that HE has to sign to get it? That way, it wouldn't end up on someone else's desk, lost amidst junk mail, etc. I think it only costs a few dollars to do so, and I can certainly send you some $ in the mail if you...

Actually, that's not how you get them tested. That's just how other doctors read about them. SBJ, perhaps you'd like to sign the letter Gentleheart is writing to Dr. Fine? It asks him several questions in a professional, non-confrontational way, and many of us have signed it. In the meantime, can we wait on arguing the points on this thread until...

ARCHIVED Which Formula Is gluten-free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mandigirl1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just wanted to second (or third!) the suggestion to breast-feed. Before my first baby was born, I figured I 'd breast-feed until I went back to work, and then give formula. But my first baby had all kinds of terrible complications: failure to thrive in the womb due to my pre-eclampsia and hyperemesis, jaundice and an enlarged liver at 7 weeks caused... -
I certainly apologize for reading too much into your post. As for your "answer," apparently what you meant as a polite way to decline confused both me and jnbunnie. Neither one of us were really sure if you meant to decline or if you felt that you weren't allowed to sign or if you even meant to answer. I'm only trying to clarify my own comments. Why...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Shows High Sensitivity To Gluten.
Fiddle-Faddle replied to GFVeganMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think we all started this diet in total cluelessness! Some celiacs react even to certified gluten-free oats grown on a dedicated field and processed in a dedicated facility. Apparently the protein in oats is molecularly similar to to gluten. The test MIGHT be messed up at this point, or it might not. It could go either way, no way to tell which... -
