  1. Jason, there have been many threads here about Rice Dream. It used to say on the label that it was processed with barley enzymes. Barley, as you know, is considered to have gluten. Recently, Rice Dream changed its label to read "gluten-free," and eliminated the part about barley enzymes. They claim that their final product contains less than ...
  2. Rachel, I gotta say, I agree with TrillumHunter: you are presenting your assumption as though it's some kind of evidence. Most of us here have seen that kind of look on doctors' faces when describing our own symptoms, or when asking about mercury in vaccines, etc. Come on, you can't have it both ways! I think the point that the Enterolab-defenders...
  3. You know, if Dr. Fine's original studies happened to be on people who were all either celiac or gluten intolerant, or healthy people as controls, then they might have been 100% on target. But perhaps people with bacterial gut infection and/or people with mercury toxicity might be the exceptions--and if he's just discovered this, then he will have to start...
  4. If you were gluten-free or even gluten-lite when your blood was tested, that would be why the results were negative. Apparently, you need to be eating 3-4 pieces of gluteny bread per day for 3-4 MONTHS in order to do enough damage to test positive. Bummer, isn't it?
  5. I think for those who have celiac disease or gluten intolerance (that is NOT triggered by a more serious problem such as Lyme or mercury toxicity), then Enterolab can be and has been a VERY valuable diagnostic tool, perhaps especially for small children, for whom blood tests and endoscopies are notoriously unreliable. For people like Rachel, Joe, and...
  6. You may have a bacterial infection of the gut that has nothing to do with gluten. This doesn't mean that you don't have a problem with gluten, only that the 2 need to be assessed and treated (if necessary) separately.
  7. That is HILARIOUS!!!!!! :D I need to forward this to a neighbor who is a contractor--and who had several bouts of shingles!
  8. Did you check out the Lyme Disease thread on this board? There are quite a few people here with either celiac or gluten intolerance who ALSO had Lyme Disease. A fair number also have candida issues. And what about dairy--could that possibly be an issue for you? Or soy? Many people on this board have multiple food intolerances. Some can't tolerate ANY...
  9. The only way I can think to be helpful is to ask exactly what you are eating. Many of us, perhaps most of us, THOUGHT we were gluten-free in the beginning, but weren't. Things that have gluten, but you wouldn't think they did include: soy sauce (most brands contain wheat) corn flakes (contains barley malt) rice krispies (contiains barley malt)...
  10. Sure, if you think it would be a good quality of life. But did you read sgwhiskers' post? Don't forget that the internal damage that causes these conditions is for most people, largely symptom-free for many years. Once symptoms are noticed, severe damage is already present--and possibly not curable.
  11. Some people don't like to feel that they are not in control, and they think that admitting that they CAN'T have something means that they aren't in control; eating wheat makes them feel in control But they're really letting the wheat control them, aren't they? You decide if you are capable of controlling what goes in your mouth--and what diseases/disorders...
  12. Am I missing something? It sounds like you are making excuses to eat gluten.
  13. He is NOT too young to develop celiac like this all of a sudden. However, there are many things that could cause these symptoms. On the other hand, all it would take would be a simple blood test to rule it in (unfortunately, many of us don't believe that you can rule it out, even with negative bloodwork, unless you find something else that explains all...
  14. Well, hey, they say to drink 8 cups of liquid a day, right? One carton of Almond Breeze is only 4 cups!
  15. gfpaperdoll, that's very interesting--how do you find this kind of database? And where do you go for the DNA test?
  16. I think about the 8 million people who were slaughtered in the concentration camps. Most of them were lucky if they had one meal a day--a piece of bread made with SAND and watery soup made from kitchen garbage. They would have considered themselves lucky indeed to have chicken, rice, and green beans. I agree with Shay--you do sound like you are terribly...
  17. I just went on the Honeybaked website and found this in their questions/answers page: Do your hams or turkey breast contain glutens? We have reformulated our glaze to be considered free of allergens. This means our hams and turkey breasts DO NOT contain glutens. Woo-HOOOOOOOOO! I just reserved my turkey breasts for Turkey Day!!!!
  18. My children do not have nearly the terrible reactions to gluten that your son has--and yet I have decided to make them gluten-free, and we didn't bother with an endoscopy. 2 of them had so much improvement on a gluten-LITE diet (because I was gluten-free, so I wasn't making gluteny breakfasts and dinners), that we tried gluten-free, with even more improvement...
  19. Kinnikinnick and Whole Foods (aka "Whole Paycheck") make reasonable (but expensive) breads. You can order Kinnikinnick's directly from their website, I think. The following is my adaptation of a recipe that was floating around here a while ago. I make it in 12 four-inch round cake pans, which are PERFECT hamburger-bun or sandwich-bun size. It comes...
  20. AWESOME post, shayesmom!!!!
  21. Pamela's has a really good bread machine mix. You can try it or google "Pamela's baking mix copycat recipe" and use that. ALL the recipes on www.betterbatter.com that I have tried have been fantastic.
  22. You can try googliing "Celiac _________) with the ________ being either your town, or the closest large city. If you have some kind of a health food store, sometimes they have that kind of info, too. You can also call various celiac-specializing GIdocs, and ask if they have any info on local support groups. Good luck!
  23. I would have totally agreed with you before gluten-free Rice Chex became available at every supermarket. Since it is easily available, and since so many kids these days do have food allergies (many preschools are now totally peanut-free--you can't even bring in peanut butter sandwiches), I don't think it's unrealistic or unreasonable to request that they...
  24. If all the bloodwork was clearly positive, you might not need the endoscopy, unless the doctor has reason to look for something else. More doctors are now accepting the positive bloodwork plus dietary response as a definitive diagnosis these days, as it IS possible to have celiac disease and NOT have villi damage (which is what they look for in the endoscopy...
  25. Google "gluten" along with each of the neuro symptoms/diagnoses and the word "study" and studies should pop up. You might also try contacting TLC's "Mystery Diagnosis" show (and show them whatever research you've uncovered)--maybe one of the doctors who has diagnosed previous cases for them might be interested in your mom's case. Best of luck to you...
