ARCHIVED Rice Milk/hemp Milk
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, sensitive stomachs and IBS are caused by something. So it would depend on what is causing the IBS/sensitive tum. If you are sensitive to gluten, that is MORE than enough to cause every known symptom of IBS! But that doesn't mean that it's the only thing that you, jason, are sensitive to. Maybe you're sensitive to dairy (most celiacs are until... -
ARCHIVED Rice Milk/hemp Milk
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't trust the people at Rice Dream, because they consider anything under (and including) 20 ppm "safe" and apparently not "positive" in their test. But I know a child who HAS reacted to it, and many here have reacted to it. So just because someone at Rice Dream knows someone who didn't react doesn't mean a thing. Shame on them. And the ever... -
Absolutely! I just don't want to bother him with this letter unless we come up with something we all agree with. And I was careful to say that we are members of the forum, not representatives of celiac.com.

ARCHIVED Kamut Being Labeled As Gluten Free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to RIMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You have a point--they might not ultimately be held responsible. However, if they put a gluten product in an area clearly designated for gluten-free, the question of liability would be enough to put them in the position of having to pay an attorney to wiggle them out of liability! Bravo! Restaurant used to have a gluten-free menu, but discontinued it... -
Okay, folks--let's play around with this letter, and see if we can tweak it to be something we all feel comfortable signing! Dear Dr. Fine, We are several people with diagnoses of celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and possibly further issues, and we are all members of the glutenfreeforum at www.celiac.com. Many people here have been diagnosed...

ARCHIVED I Need To Vent Somewhere!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to ptkds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
ptkds, that's HORRIBLE. (and Mother of Jibril, too!) I would suggest that you revise your rant, print it out, and send it to EVERY doctor who examined your child, plus a copy to the insurance company. You could also ask your local paper's health writer if they'd like to do a story on this. Imagine--giving a child pain pills instead of finding out... -
I think a lot of people may have given up on this thread . How about a new thread entitled "Group letter to Dr. Fine."
-
I like the idea of a single letter, but I'll go along with individual emails if that's what the majority would like.

A nut-and-grain diet would automatically be Kosher even if you weren't trying to be Kosher, as by definition it would eliminate all non-Kosher foods (non-Kosher meats, non-fish seafood, non-Kosher fish (bottom feeders), and meat-and-milk combinations).

ARCHIVED Is Phenergan Gluten Free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not saying that your doctor is definitely wrong for wanting to stop the vomiting cycle, as dehydration might be a concern at this point. However, it is important to realize that vomiting is your body's way of getting rid of something toxic. To stop the cycle means leaving the toxin in your system for a longer period of time until your body can find... -
Gentleheart, that's a great, productive idea! Are you thinking of several of us emailing, or one letter signed by many?

ARCHIVED Is Phenergan Gluten Free?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry I can't answer the question, just wondering if you're okay? I was prescribed phenergan when I was pregnant and throwing up for 9 months, but it's considered category B/C for pregnancy--you'd only want it if you're really having major problems keeping food down. For me, when I took it at the prescribed strength, it knocked me out for 17 hours, and... -
There have been a few people on this board who were diagnosed with CFS and/or fibro; their symptoms disappeared with the gluten-free diet. This doesn't mean the CFS and fibro can't exist separately from celiac (though I wouldn't rule that out, either); but it does indicate that at least some of the time, celiac/gluten intolerance can cause the exact same...

I'm afraid it can't be confirmed, as 21 posts were removed from the thread. You say you really want the discussion of your issues to stop, but you are actively continuing the argument. Is it your wish that we read your arguments and NOT respond? As I keep saying, you can't have it both ways.

ARCHIVED Rash On Baby
Fiddle-Faddle replied to missmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Blood tests are notoriously unreliable in babies. If your son is under one year, the AMA firmly recommends that he not be fed ANY of the major allergens, anyway. Unless he is eatings tons of gluten, there's no point in a blood test, as they say that you have to be eating the equivalent of 4-6 pieces of bread per day for 3-4 months in order to produce... -
Sorry, Peter, my bad!

A colleague of mine was recently "diagnosed" by Enterolab, and followed up with a mainstream doctor who considered it, along with his symptoms and dietary response to be a firm diagnosis. I have heard similar stories from many across the country. You may have seen MANY doctors, but I'd say your experience is pretty narrow.
-
Unfortunately, Rachel, your issues are bound up in this thread's discussion of Dr. Fine because you are using them as "proof" that Dr. Fine's tests are invalid. That is why I quoted you in my previous post. That is also why so many are arguing with you on this thread. As a mod, you can certainly remove anybody's posts with which you disagree, but to...

Whoops, sorry, Raven, my mistake!

If we're getting into assumptions (always dangerous!), I would assume that either he has other food sensitivities or even allergies, or if he is Jewish (don't know if he is or isn't), that he keeps Kosher, or that he avoids having his food handled by others during flu season (I usually avoid eating out during flu season myself, and have ever since I saw a...

Rachel, I used to follow the OMG thread, and every step of the way on your journey, you were sure that you had found The Answer--and that You Were Right. I remember when you were positive that Auxigro was causing your symptoms. You also mentioned (several times) that while you would not be diagnosed as autistic, that you have several autistic traits...

ARCHIVED Rice Dream Rice Milk
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it's pretty unlikely! Luckily, the gluten you've been consuming this last year is a VERY small amount--much, much less than you've consumed the rest of your life! Stress, however, can be a huge factor in cancer. I suppose that, theoretically, you could be 100% gluten-free, but if you are totally stressed and obsessing about whether you're... -
Cutting out dairy, I think, is a must for the first few months of going gluten-free, as if you have damaged villi, those villi are not going to be able to produce lactase--and I remember reading that dairy can prevent gluten-damaged villi from healing! Luckily, there are quite a few really, really good dairy-free milks out there, including rice milk (but...

ARCHIVED Rice Dream Rice Milk
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Trader Joe's is safe, but I don't know if it has carageenan. Hemp milk is surprisingly good (but avoid Hemp Dream!)--I just tried it and I actually like it better than rice milk! I also really like almond milk. (I don't need to avoid dairy, but never liked the taste of milk unless it's full of chocolate--but I really like almond and hemp milks.) A... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream Rice Milk
Fiddle-Faddle replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Of course, that's what they WANT you to believe. But, legally speaking, they are allowed to call a product gluten-free if it has 20 parts per million gluten or less.
