You do make an excellent point. My mother (who has no medical background whatsoever) used to go to med school libraries to look things up. She has a distrust of doctors from way, way back, including when they couldn't diagnose some of her problems correctly when she was a child, and also a horrific misdiagnosis when I was a baby (I had hip displasia...

Patti, you didn't start any new meds this week, did you? My mom had spots on her legs, and the doctors had NO CLUE what it was, and gave her all kinds of creams and antihistimines and nothing did any good, and she finally figured out that it was a medication that she'd been on for a while but the dosage and brand had been switched. As soon as she stopped... -
Hi, I adapted this one from a recipe that was in this week's paper: gluten-free Tomato Bisque 1 29-oz can whole peeled tomatoes (I like San Marzano) 1/3 cup mayonnaise juice of 1/2 lemon 2 Tablespoons sugar salt and pepper to taste dash of Worcestershire sauce 1 Tablespoon chopped parsley 1 finely chopped green onion 1 teaspoon grated orange...

I was wondering shingles, too, until she mentioned her foot--shingles is when the chicken pox virus goes dormant in one of the spinal nerves, and when it reactivates, it follows the path of that nerve exactly. The whole nerve becomes inflamed, and blisters appear on the skin, exactly following the path of the nerve below. In short, shingles suck (or... -

Hi, everybody, I can't begin to keep up with this thread, but I try to check in just to make sure you guys are all still okay! Patti, if it isn't DH, could it possibly be chicken pox? I know "they" say that you can't get it twice, but "they" have been wrong about most of the problems with our collective health, so why not chicken pox? (And I do know... -

Just out of curiosity--do you consider your problems with gluten to have begun in 2003, when you had the radioactive iodine, or earlier? -

If one person misunderstands or misinterprets another, does anyone really have the right to say that that person chose to misinterpret? You both have valid points of view. You agree on many issues, and disagree on others. I don't think either of you intends disrespect towards the other, or towards anyone else. Maybe you just rub each other the wrong... -

Whole Foods sells some casein-free, dairy-free cheese substitutes. You have to read the labels carefully, though, because they also sell "Veggie-Shreds," that are lactose-free but contain casein. Is it too late for you to gently suggest to the teacher that she might consider serving something that all in the class can eat? And you can point out that... -

What unit takes care of fluoride as well? I've been using a Pur, which I liked better than the Brita I used to use, but I don't think it takes care of fluoride. -

I think the biggest problem with the deep fryers is that pieces of breading break off and stay in the oil, and then can attach to whatever gets fried next. If you've ever deep fried, or even just plain fried or sauteed in your own kitchen, you know what I mean. -

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I don't seem to have obvious reactions to gluten. But I figure that most of the companies making the gluten-free brownies, breads, pizza crusts, etc., are using the Asian flours. I do agree with happygirl that it's great that Whole Foods supports the gluten-free community--but, on the other hand, depending... -

What I like is that all their gluten-free products are reasonably tasty, and, of course, convenient. What I don't like is that they are totally gouging us. It is not that much more expensive to make gluten-free products from scratch (white rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca starch are 69 cents/pound at the Asian groceries), but they charge $7.9... -

Wow!!! Bravissimo!!!!! Teaching kids to play instruments in a group setting is difficult at best. Sounds like you have done wonderfully. Way to go!!!! If there's any possible way you can get them to memorize their parts (it's easier than they think, especially on songs they know like Twinkle), you will be AMAZED at how much better (more in tune, nicer... -

Naah, it's not nearly as bad as I expected. Tigger gets insulin twice a day, and he's an absolute angel while I do it. He just sits there and purrs. If I hit a nerve, he does jump, but I'm learning to avoid the tender places. The vet trained me how to do it on a toy doggie with a saline-filled syringe, and it's very easy. The pain in the arse part is... -

Glad to hear that she's okay. Not so glad to hear what the vet charged, but we're in the same boat with you there (diabetic kitty, bloodwork every month at the cost of $100, and the first diagnostic visit was $500 ). BTW, I assume they are checking for diabetes? Our cat has major hind foot problems, which we are told is diabetic neuropathy. Apparently... -

I'm sorry, I must disagree with this. Of all the nursing moms I know (and I know quite a lot), NONE were able to go 3 hours in the first several weeks, and only one was able to go every 2 hours. And so many thought that they SHOULD be able to go 2-3 hours because of that "every 2-3 hours" that they were told--and then they wondered why their babies lost... -

Well, millions of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean babies gain properly on a rice-based diet! I agree about the pepperoni--it's not all that nutritious, it's full of salt and chemicals, has tons of preservatives, and the spices might give anyone diarrhea! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Gluten Intolerance
Fiddle-Faddle replied to candi1008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, if you are talking about a true allergy, then you are talking about histamine and IgE involvement, which are both tested and diagnosed differently from the celiac panel, right? And the symptoms tend to be different than gluten intolerance/celiac, don't they? And we really don't know for sure that people who were told that they had no villi damage...
