  1. Was that on the Larry King Live? I missed some while I was posting. I also got mad at one point when they kept flashing "no known cause" on the screen because we DO know that mercury CAN cause every single symptom (there is a chart comparing the official signs of mercury poisoning in adults with the typical symptoms of autism, and they are nearly *identical...
  2. Hey, if any of you are awake right now, Larry King is doing a 1-hour special on autism on CNN right now (on "Larry King Live")...
  3. Hey, I don't know if any of you are awake, but right now, Larry King is doing a one-hour special on autism on CNN...
  4. Lots of food for thought here, but I'd say that Vydorscope's advice is brilliant. I wouldn't say, "left for better job opportunities" because then any potential boss would think that you are only out for yourself. "No hope of growth for me in that position" sounds WAY less selfish and WAY more mature.
  5. It's really too bad Kevin Trudeau is so greedy, wanting us to buy his book, and then pay big bucks to "join" his website to get the "Secret" to weight loss, which is injections of HCG. The sad part is, in his first two books (which are NOT well-written or well-documented, by the way), he DOES make valid criticisms about the pharm industry, the FDA, western...
  6. Does he have any favorite TV shows? That's how I taught all my kids the concept of time. When they were into Blue's Clues (a half-hour show including commercials), I said that 15 minutes was half of a Blue's Clues episode, half an hour is one episode, an hour is two episodes, etc. "Drake and Josh" is popular with kids--it's on Nickelodeon, and a lot...
  7. Oh, I absolutely agree with you about all the pre-made English Muffins! My point, though, is that, unlike bagels, English Muffins are relatively easy to make from scratch (about on the same level as making biscuits from Bisquick), and all the recipes I have tried taste great. Excellent point from sansglutengirl about inedible gluten-free breadstuff...
  8. Okaaaay. Um, can anybody recommend which grocery and/or health food stores I can go to to buy gluten-free ingredients?
  9. I just checked out the website, and gosh, everything looks amazing! But the prices--holy cat, $12 for 6 English muffins even before shipping charges? And I looked at the ingredients, and there's nothing expensive there--just cornstarch (89 cents a pound), tapioca (69 cents a pound), rice flour (69 cents a pound), and corn meal (79 cents for 12 ounces)....
  10. I just wanted to add that we just switched our diabetic cat from his expensive canned high-protein cat food to plain deli sliced turkey, which is less expensive--and he is suddenly feeling MUCH better! Hmmmm..... Anyway, thought that might help with your pet food dilemma...
  11. Good to see you back, Vincent! I'm sorry you've had such a tough time, but I hope from here on things are much easier for you and your family. Did you ever find out what was causing your health problems? As always, Timothy is just ADORABLE (just in case you didn't know)!
  12. Good idea, especially if it's raining! I only just remembered--I learned quite a bit from how our wonderful daycare handled things. They had the kids go outside in the mornings whenever possible, and when they just couldn't, they had a gym stocked with tricycles and pedalcars and sit-down-scooter-things. I tried to follow suit at home (my kids were only...
  13. Hang in there! You are NOT a horrible mom! 3-year-olds are tough even when you're not pregnant! Scheduling her day into little segments (at 10:00 we go to the store, at 11:00 we eat lunch, after lunch we take a nap, etc.) might be very helpful, especially if you tell her everything IN ADVANCE. This helps her to understand her world, to know what to...
  14. We'll be visiting family there, and I'm the only one with a problem with gluten . Thanks!
  15. Okay, I googled "pain under right shoulder blade" and found this: Open Original Shared Link, which mentioned cholangitis (bile duct inflammations) and cholecystitis (inflammation of the gall bladder), both of which could be caused by bile duct blockage (but it didn't say what causes the bile duct blockage in the first place)--could they be possibilities here...
  16. Sounds delicious, but, um, scallions ARE green onions: "what's the difference between scallions and green onions? Scallions and green onions generally refer to exactly the same vegetable. They
  17. I would say that's something for a GOOD chiropractor to look at (unfortunately, there are a lot of quacks out there, just like MD's). Sounds to me like there's a possibility that discs (more than one) are out of alignment and that something is pressing on at least one nerve. Pain of any sort is tiring; it is exhausting dealing with pain when you are awake...
  18. Holy Vow of Poverty, Batman, I couldn't afford to join that synagogue either!
  19. Is there any way you can bring her some gluten-free pizza from home for Friday's lunch? If you can't find a frozen gluten-free pizza, there are several crust recipes on this site, all decent or better. If you are totally stuck, lightly toast a couple of slices of gluten-free bread in the oven, smear them with butter, garlic, and Italian spices, add your...
  20. I still maintain that celiac is what happens when you are gluten intolerant and continue to ingest gluten--no matter what genes you have. The genes just give you a predisposition towards something; that doesn't mean that you're not going to develop it without the genes. Not every woman with breast cancer is positive for BRCA1 or BRCA2. So you...
  21. I never knew that! That's an issue that has come nearly full circle in Judaism. Used to be, Jewish women had to cover their heads at all times, not just at services. For a long time they just wore scarves over their heads, but then a trend started where Orthodox women would cut their hair very short and wear WIGS to fulfill this requirement (and...
  22. Nah, I was just comparing myself to Carla, who was barely past puberty at 21!
  23. Yes, Nama, we're sorry we got so far off course! Just wanted to add that the nitrATES aren't as big a problem as the nitrITES (which is what is in bacon and cured deli meats). HawkFire, I think nitrITES was what you wanted to mention rather than nitrATES?
  24. I didn't get married til I was an old lady of 31!
  25. Nope, never heard anything about it except that it increases one's appetite (which makes it totally useless as a weight-loss tool). I was paying attention to anything about it, not just the carcinogen aspect. I also tend to pay intense attention to *anything* with neuro effects, as one of my kids was initially diagnosed with autism.
