  1. That doesn't sound like good advice to me unless you are SEVERELY overweight. We do need fat in our diets--but not the processed garbage that is in most prepared foods.
  2. I am sorry I don't have time to research this right now, but this doesn't sound right to me at all. I thought the whole problem with gluten is that it goes through the leaky gut INTO the bloodstream, and that's where the autoimmune problems start. Can anyone address this? Also, if percocet makes you itchy, that sounds like a red flag to me. That...
  3. You're probably right about that! However, most procedures involving IV sedation are done on an outpatient basis.
  4. I had terrible reactions to endocet (generic percocet)--dizziness, shakiness, severe nausea, vomiting, dry heaves, and chest pain--that landed me in the hospital for a full day of cardiac tests (NOT a good way to recover from surgery!). I did an admittedly unscientific survey of everyone I knew who had undergone a surgical procedure and been given percocet...
  5. OMG--I had the same dream with my grandma...that's gotta mean something!!! Andrea, I am SO sorry. I am glad, though, that you did have the chance to spend a lot of time with him when you visited. I hope you have lots of memories like that to comfort you.
  6. I think that what is most tragic is how she did lead her life. How she handled her daughter's care is an example--what was she (Anna Nicole) doing in Florida when her 5-month-old was in another country? :blink I'm sorry, but what kind of mother does that? I wouldn't be surprised, though, if both she and her son were murdered, especially as they didn...
  7. Andrea, I'm so sorry. {{{HUGS}}}
  8. Given the number of people on this board who do NOT have celiac genes, yet still biopsied positive for celiac, I am not convinced that there is much value to the gene test. (Otherwise, I would agree that that would be a logical choice!)
  9. I've said this in other threads, so forgive me for being repetitive. THis is like telling someone with a peanut allergy that the only true way to confirm the peanut allergy is to feed him peanuts until he has has an anaphylactic response. Then, and only then, will it be confirmed? Come on, this is baloney. A biopsy confirms villi damage, yes...
  10. Angie, if you feel so strongly that you need a doctor's note, then I think your best bet is to find a celiac-literate doctor, even if you have to go out of state. You might even try contacting Dr. Peter Green in NY--maybe write him a letter explaining your situation--who knows, he might even write you some kind of note even without making you come in! Or...
  11. Did anybody notice that the study involved a survey of public schools? Which means that home-schooled children and children attending private school (which would include a huge chunk of all moderately-to-severely-autistic children) WERE NOT EVEN INCLUDED. When are they going to realize just how many children are involved?
  12. I certainly understand how you feel!!! Keep in mind, though--you may end up dealing with adverse drug reactions in addition to the cold. Cold medicines always made me feel woozy and disconnected--much worse than just the runny/stuffy nose. As long as it's only a cold and nothing worse, he should get over it in a day or two, anyway. I hope YOU don...
  13. You put this so beautifully, I'm going to quote you at my next doctor's appointment!
  14. Andrea, I'm so sorry--it must be awfully hard for you right now. Any possibility you can just pack up the kids and drive down to say goodbye to him? I know it's a long trip. {{{{HUGS}}}} Alison
  15. For what it's worth, I'm convinced that celiac disease (i.e., the damaged villi) can and does occur in gluten-intolerant people who don't even have the celiac genes (there are some on this board!) . It happens when they continue to eat gluten At this point, I'm not sure it matters what the tests say. Your daughter vomits after eating gluten. Her...
  16. Oh, hi, Tanya, how are you? ADORABLE picture! I already use half white rice flour in all the recipes that call for brown. I would like to use brown, though!
  17. Actually, it is called, "Reye's Syndrome." See Open Original Shared Link My view will probably not be a popular one, but I don't think a 2-year-old should be given ANY cold medicine. Cold medicine won't cure his cold. In fact, if his body is not allowed to deal with it the way it was meant to, the cold is likely to last longer, and he is likely to...
  18. I love Authentic Foods finely ground brown rice flour, but I just can't afford to spend $8+ plus shipping for a measly 3 pounds of flour! A friend and I were going to split an order from shopbydiet.com, but the shipping charges are so steep, it's ridiculous! I can't find it in the Asian grocery, either--they only have white rice flour and glutinous rice...
  19. Thanks for posting this. It does look good. But at over $11/pound PLUS shipping, who can afford it? There seem to be a number of cheaper coconut flour options--here are some more: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I didn't check their shipping rates, so it may end up being just as expensive after all. Hopefully...
  20. Everything I have read says that you have to havethe equivalent of 2-4 pieces of bread PER DAY FOR 4 MONTHS in order for celiac damage that can be seen in a biopsy. Are you getting that much by CC? This doesn't mean that they might not find something else in your endoscopy. Maybe it's a good idea, but it seems to me that in your case, it's a fishing...
  21. I'm curious--would anyone know which (if any) formulas contained gluten in the early 1960's? My mother was told I was allergic to cow's milk because of diarrhea from Similac, so I was put on soy and did fine. But when I was a toddler, someone gave me milk and I was fine, so she gave me regular milk after that with no problems. She is now wondering...
  22. I'm so glad everything turned out okay. Thanks for the warning.
  23. As far as I can figure, celiac disease is what happens when you have gluten intolerance and continue to eat gluten. It's looking more and more likely that the same can be said of MS, fibromyalgia, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune thyroid disease, and probably others as well. I know people with those conditions. There is no way any of those are...
  24. Here in Pittsburgh, it's EXTREMELY expensive, as is all bloodwork. I don't know if that's true for all the States, or just here, but I was assuming (perhaps wrongly) that it was so everywhere. BTW, I LOVE your mood swing warning!!!!
  25. GlutenWrangler, I apologize if I am misunderstanding you, but I am seeing this from a different perspective. It's hard enough to get a doctor to agree to order just the celiac panel, even when we have already "proven" the existence of a probable cause just by dietary response. But when you request to be tested for 132 allergens and say that insurance...
