  1. Jerry, you need to compile your posts here into a book about the journey to celiac diagnosis! You have a great talent for writing, you know.
  2. Someone posted a while back that if you make RIce Krispie Treats (with gluten-free crispy rice cereal, of course) and add chocolate chips and coconut, it tastes very much like samoas. I agree--and I add a big dollop of peanut butter, too. If you want it more caramely, you can add extra brown sugar and butter as you melt the marshmallows.
  3. Ha-ha, yes, I always feel after reading HP that if someone would only hand me a broom, I could fly... The book is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and the initials are R.A.B. I have no idea who R.A.B. is. Sirius' brother, Regulus Black, maybe? But we don't know what his middle name is.
  4. Just playing Devil's Advocate here--isn't he correct about this? Food allergy tests DON'T correspond to reaction. Celiac proves this! He may be a total jerk, and he may or may not have made the correct decision in your case. Why do you think you need to be checked for 132 food allergies? Are you having continued problems that the gluten-free diet...
  5. Anybody besides me hoping that Dumbledore is not really dead? Remember in the first book, at the very first potions lesson, Snape asked Harry what he would get if he combined an infusion of wormwood with asphodel? The Draught of the Living Death. Only thing is, it doesn't explain how Dumbledore's portrait appeared in his office.... I think Snape...

    Thanks!

    ARCHIVED Dr. Guandalini?

Rez, I am so glad you had a good experience. By any chance, to you have any links about non-Hodgkins associated with celiac? A friend of mine just had his 3rd bone marrow transplant, and when I suggested that he look into gluten intolerance being linked to hisnon-Hodgkins lymphoma, he said he didn't have a wheat allergy. I tried to explain that it...
  8. I would recommend getting a really good pump, and expressing your own milk for backup and emergencies (but it's definitely a good idea to check out formulas in advance, too). Most (but not all) babies seem to have trouble adjusting from breast milk to formula--formula is SO much harder to digest. Best of luck!
  9. NT children also can be angels at daycare or school all day--and then come home and have meltdowns. It isn't necessarily anything to do with autism (though I wouldn't rule that out); it's just a sign that when the child is home, he might be at the end of his own emotional and behavioral resources. He also might not feel "safe" to lose control and have a...
  10. Yep--huge HP fan here!
  11. I was also given gamma globulin shots, as my job took me to mainland China and South America. I didn't react well, either--both times had a grapefruit-sized, red, hot lump at the injection site. I also reacted this way to the flu shot--and finally realized that they all have thimerosal (mercury) in common. (Sigh.) 6 weeks after the first gamma globulin...
  12. So --how much is nature and how much is nurture? If you have intelligent and sensitive NT parents with an autistic child, they can teach the child how to translate and function in an NT world. How would an NT child of 2 autistic parents behave and/or see the world??
  13. I think Srokie addressed that in #3: "Why does this affect some of us and not others? It depends on gene codes."
  14. I don't know why you all can't just agree that there are different ways to look at things. Some of us feel that we have a choice; some of us feel that we have no choice. (And I feel both ways, though not usually simultaneously.) Can those of you who feel like you have a choice please stop beating up those who do not or cannot see it that way? Just because...
  15. You crack me up! Seriously--great news! I'm glad it's working so well for you and your brother.
  16. I think the high IgG means that at some time, the immune system got triggered against gluten. The IgA is the most recent response. If that is incorrect, somebody please jump in and correct me! At any rate, I had exactly the same blood test results--all normal, and an IgG of 64. I went off gluten--and felt so much better, it was ridiculous.
  17. I will definitely try this! Hey, Hanginthere, by any chance are you from Pittsburgh?
  18. I hope things go well!
  19. Unreal! Where on earth did you FIND this recipe??? I wonder if it would work in the oven (cooked longer, of course)--I like my breads "browned."
  20. I think Canadian Karen was dealing with this a while back (maybe still is)--you might do a search on board here and try PMing her.
  21. Ursula, I don't doubt your diagnosis one bit (nd I probably belong in the "shadow" category myself, but I AM CONVINCED THAT IT IS YOUR HUSBAND WHO IS NOT NORMAL. There is nothing "wrong" with you, Asperger's and all. You are not inferior, crazy, or worthless. You just process things in your mind a different way than most--not worse, just different....
  22. wow, Liz, that sounds so good,it's making me HUNGRY!!!!
  23. I've been slicing it quite thin and then storing 4-6 slices in a ziploc bag in the fridge--so far, so good. It seems to last several days that way. I try to squeeze as much air as possible out. I was wondering if those seal-a-meal machines might be worthwhile for this?
  24. I think the teas use licorice root, not licorice candy (which has the wheat starch added). At least, there is no gluten listed in the ingredients!
  25. We make plain rice in the rice cooker, and then top it on each plate with a splash of soy sauce (we like San-J, but La Choy works, too), a splash of sesame oil, a pinch of sugar, and lots of choped green onions and cilantro. You can also make Sushi Rice: mix equal parts rice wine vinegar and sugar, add a little salt, bring to a boil, mix with hot rice...
