  1. This is the best description of most of us and our experiences that I have ever read!!!!
  2. That does sound promising, but all the green drinks and drink recipes I've seen contain various forms of barley and wheat grass. Have you found one that doesn't?
  3. I have used a coffee grinder to grind millet--worked great, but was very time-consuming.
  4. Annalise Roberts has a recipe for something she calls "submarine sandwich bread." It's not on her website (www.foodphilosopher.com), but you can find it in her cookbook, gluten-free Baking Classics, which is the best cookbook I ever bought! I believe she uses 2 parts millet flour, 1 part sorghum, 1 part potato starch ,1 part cornstarch, and 1 part tapioca...
  5. Hi, Mallory, I hope things get better for you quickly! I was just wondering--were you originally diagnosed by bloodwork? Because that is a far more accurate diagnosis of gluten intolerance than an endoscopy--the endoscopy only shows intestinal damage, and, unless you were eating a lot of gluten for MONTHS before your endoscopy, it would be negative...
  6. Welcome! And I for one would like to hear about your interest in cello! Tell us more! Do you play?
  7. Richard, when I was first diagnosed (less than one year ago), I checked my cottage cheese, which DID contain modified food starch. It was either a low-fat or a fat-free cottage cheese, and those, along with low-fat and fat-free ice creams, OFTEN contain either modified food starch or wheat as thickeners (if you don't believe me, check the ingredient list...
  8. Hi, Lauralee, Sounds like you are doing everything right, especially the not being up to date on vaccines!!! (I'm not anti-vaccine, I just think injecting a baby with 26 of them by the time he is 18 months old is insane.) You do know that, even if you are registering for kindergarten, you can continue to hold off and still send your kids to school, right...
  9. You might want to look up and pm TCA, a mom on this board who went through what you are going through (and possibly more!)--she will have better advice for you than anyone I can think of, she is amazing! Good luck!
  10. I wasn't yet diagnosed when I was pregnant, but the saltines did NOT stay down! What did stay down were popsicles, yogurt, fresh strawberries, nuts, and dry Corn Chex (there is a gluten-free version called corn crunchems). Hope you feel better! Keep a water bottle with you at all times, and keep sipping at it--if you get dehydrated, it makes the nausea...
  11. Do you mind if I ask some questions> How old is your oldest daughter? When she does get a cold, what (if anything) do you give her? Do you use a humidifier, either in your house or in her room? And do these colds come on suddenly, or does she sniffle and drip for several days before coming down with a full nose-blow-out cold? Off the top of my...
  12. Oh, wow, my kids are going to be SO healthy! We have the 10-second rule at our house (if it falls on the floor, you have 10 seconds to pick it up and eat it), which just horrifies my mother!
  13. I found this on a site about polio--there must be a lot of similarities with Guillain-Barre: History The effects of a polio infection have been known since prehistory. Egyptian paintings and carvings depict otherwise healthy people with withered limbs, walking with canes at a young age, etc. It has been theorized that the Roman Emperor Claudius was stricken...
  14. I think it's too early to tell if she is right or wrong (assuming she didn't misunderstand you). We can speculate all we want based on the knowledge that is already "out there," but since that knowledge is far from complete, we just have to wait and see! In the meantime, this is a very interesting discussion.
  15. I have had something similar in the past. I attributed it to bits of metal coming off my violin strings, as it was on ly on my left hand, but I was never really sure what caused it. It only happened to me rarely, and hasn't happened in a long time. Do you play any stringed instruments or have any contact with anything metal on that hand? Ursa's experience...
  16. This is also a place where we can think out loud and share what info might find about issues that affect many of us. Most of us here are not seeking Nobel prizes for our research; we are seeking answers to our health issues, which for many here, seem to grow more complicated by the day. I saw no evidence that Angie HAD a personal band wagon, nor that...
  17. Lisa, make sure that you have notes from the doctor's office detailing everything you are going through, from symptoms to appointments to procedures to dietary restrictions, you name it, and make sure that the head guy has a copy (you keep a copy, too). That way, they can't legally (I think) give you any trouble.
  18. Yes, but canned goods that were produced before 01/06 do not have to comply with this law, and are still being sold.
  19. Hi, Amybeth, thank you for the informative post! I am in Pittsburgh--is a 504 the same thing as an IEP?
  20. I haven't had much luck gluten-free with my breadman--seems like most mixes are for 2 lb loaves, and they spill over in my breadman. They are so expensive, I hate to measure 1/4 of it out and make a 1 1/2 lb loaf, so I gave up and I make Annalise Roberts' subway sandwich bread, which is delicious, but you are right, it is not a one-stop shopping experience...
  21. Glad you're safely back--stay warm!
  22. I just (pant) can't (wheeze) keep up!!!! (collapses in heap on keyboard)
  23. Lynne has the best sense of humor of anyone here!!!! Eliza, I know nothing about ataxia or rheumatoid arthritis, so I apologize for posting in ignorance here. I just wanted to mention that the first thing that popped into my head after reading your post about when you were 7 was--polio??? But that's impossible, isn't it? Or is it? I was told by our...
  24. Let's try and keep open minds on BOTH sides of the fence, please. I don't care if this doctor is not an MD or even if she is a garbage collector--she might be on to something. I'm not dismissing what she says just because she isn't an MD. What if she's correct? Look at dogtorj--his scientificness puts the MD's to shame. On the other hand, srokie,...
  25. Could it be your computer? I don't see any big spaces in your posts....
