ARCHIVED Singles With Food Allergies
mommida replied to BeFree's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Haven't checked out any online dating sites but they should start with a preview of what it might be like to date someone with food sensitivities. -
ARCHIVED Eggs Eggs !
mommida replied to surfer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes we have to avoid eggs in our house too. I suggest the Allergen's Baker's Handbook by Cybele Pascal. YUMMY. You can use regular milk and butter in place of dairy free substitutes. You will probably like Schar's bread more than enjoy life's for a pre-made option. A lot of members here have great recipes too. Do a search of egg substitutions. ... -
ARCHIVED When Do You Decorate For Christmas?
mommida replied to samie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yep, so much fun paying to renew driver's licenses and car tabs. I just happen to know about 15 people who have birthdays on Dec. 30th too. -
ARCHIVED Frustration And Fear
mommida replied to 4livefree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a natural grieving process giving up gluten, but this does not seem to fit the pattern of most Celiac kids. This is food aversion. How often is your child going through cycles of vomitting? What is the genetic background? Did you breastfeed? Was the time that breastfeeding stopped that digestive problems started? Was your child ever scoped... -
ARCHIVED When Do You Decorate For Christmas?
mommida replied to samie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
we usually put the tree up on my birthday, the 10th. We have to leave it up for New Year's Eve because that's my husband's birthday. Yep we are screwed for cash in December. -

mommida replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Favorite Gluten Free Flour Blend?
mommida replied to joyfulmommyofmany's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like Tom Sawyer. (It has gelatin in it, which is great for us because we are egg free too. Not for vegans though.) Better Batter is good. I like Gluten Free Pantry's flour mix. It used to be easy to find around my area. I don't know why it hasn't been in the stores lately. As for mixing your own blend, double check with the recipes. I do love... -
ARCHIVED Even A Kiss?
mommida replied to NicoleKnott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
honestly I only read to page 24. I realized I should have responded by stating the amount is always going to vary for individuals (page 10 top paragraph last few sentences.) A reaction will occur for the individual when the immune system has identified gluten as an "intruder" that needs to be attacked. The symptoms and amount of damage done is also specific... -
ARCHIVED Even A Kiss?
mommida replied to NicoleKnott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Measuring a bread crumb you probably want to use the prefix of micro (no "N") or factor 10 to negative 6. In plain terms "a very small amount". Stale bread would have a different measurement than fresh bread. Thank you for pointing that out. Does that make you or anyone else understand that cross contamination is a problem for a person with... -
ARCHIVED Happy Tgiving To Our American Friends
mommida replied to Di2011's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff

ARCHIVED Even A Kiss?
mommida replied to NicoleKnott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In the begginning I searched for information, "How much gluten does it take to cause a reaction?" The most common consistent "scientific" answer was one micron. If one micron can be exchanged through a kiss, then that is the final answer. -
Try and have some gluten free menthol cough drops, and try not to kill anyone.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Aspergers?
mommida replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have always heard it is a gluten free, Casein free diet in this situation. Certain individuals respond to the opiate like effect of gluten and casein protein. I also think allergy testing should be done for Aspergers because of a *higher* rate of food allergies/intolerance/sensitivity. (I'm way too tired to find supporting articles right now) -
ARCHIVED Check This Baby Out
mommida replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Looks YUMMY! Congratulations and Happy Thanksgiving! -
ARCHIVED Even A Kiss?
mommida replied to NicoleKnott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes even a kiss can do it. Seriously, get a new sponge. You have to realize your health is more important than a simple sponge. I don't want this to seem rude, so I'm trying to use smiley faces. I didn't really think I had to be this CC concerned, until it happened to me. Listen to the experience here and avoid some misery. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
mommida replied to beebs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Add to that the symptoms my daughter was going through with Eosinophilic Esophagitus were EXACTLY like a Celiac being glutened. (I was going crazy trying to find hidden gluten.) Get testing done before going gluten free if you can! Demand earlier appointments so you can stop eating gluten sooner. A gluten challenge after a gluten free diet becomes dangerous... -
ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
mommida replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OMG!! The torture your son, husband and you have gone through! On top of the lose your mind worry, someone dared to say crap about your parenting!!!? Sending you warm wishes for speedy healing! Big cyber ((HUGS)) I do know in some highly contagious cases they will run multiple tests to prove the dianoses and identify the exact baterium. ... -
You really get the diagnoses from the count found from the biopsy. It definately is a higher count for an adult to get diagnosed. There was no blood testing done before my daughter's scopes when EE was evident. It is also common for EE to "flare" up in fall. (not sure if that is a mid west specific weather pattern) Some things have changed over...

You probably won't be happy to hear this. An elimination diet, avoid all top 8 allergens (wheat, egg, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, and dairy all the way down to casein protein) and peas. Keep an eye on the airborn allergens. (seasonal allergies/airborn allergies play a part in EE.) Eosinophils stay active for 12 days once activated. So...

ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over
mommida replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So what would she do if she or her kids ended up having Celiac!!!? In life you get to choose your friends. I'm bringing gluten free safe food to the in-laws for dinner. I should have everything ready for a quick zap in the micro. For Christmas we stay home and invite famnily over for a fully gluten free meal. My sister comes early to use gluten... -
ARCHIVED Any Thoughts Or Ideas?
mommida replied to SamanthaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are going to have to describe the vommit episodes. How soon after eating? Is it a lot like GERD? A small amount up into the mouth that gets swallowed back down. The panic attack ~ was it involving chest pain? Does he ever feel like food is getting stuck in his throat? Does he cough up chunks of stuff that might look like a soggy pale corn flake... -
ARCHIVED Any Thoughts Or Ideas?
mommida replied to SamanthaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can you post the scope pictures? Or what was the eosinophil count at? Was that even screened for? What is his hereditary background? "Scratched intestines"? Did I read that correctly? Does that mean there was damage that looked like deep grooves (sometimes called furrowing)? Hernia can cause constant vommiting. Was the hernia fixed? -
It is hard with more restrictions, but you can do this. First try probiotics to make sure you gut is as healthy as possible. (I think alcohol and cheese are harder on your gut when there is a yeast overgrowth.) If these foods are really out it is time to concentrate on what you can have. Hummus can have "creamy" cheese texture, and a good source of protein...
