  1. K-toos all the way! I'm glad they are more expensive, or I would be eating them way to much. I was hesitant to try the K-toos , because the Midel ones were so horrible.
  2. Hershey's is planning on manufacturing/ processing some of their products in Mexico. They are closing some of their plants in the US and Canada. I e-mailed the company and they said only 10% of the products will be manufactured/ processed in Mexico. We will have to look into this matter further to determine what products are involved and if we can trust...
  3. I have heard of a five year old attempting suicide. It is a very hard decision for the psych evauation. Keep a written food journal for your child. Including all ingredients, times, and mood / behaviour and portion amount. I have heard soy is a problem for many people, not just Celiacs. The truth is any ingredient can be the root cause, if there is...
  4. Take her to the Endocronologist. There is at least a 10% corrulation between Celiac and auto-immune thyroid diseases. I.e. Grave's (hyper thyroid) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. (hypo thyroid ~ Hashi's onset can flip flop the test results hyper to hypo.) Test's that should be done... (for Hashimoto's diagnoses) (blood) ~Ultra sensitive TSH (thyroid stimulating...
  5. Next time you get a headache try GLUTEN FREE SUBLINGUAL VITAMIN B SUPPLEMENT WITH WATER THAT HAS ADDED CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM. (i.e. Smartwater or Dasani) The limited diet may have left you deprived of vitamins and nutrients. Keep a food journal to see if you have a sensitivity to ANOTHER food item. One of the first times a had a cross contamination...
  6. I know the feeling. I keep thinking, "It's all fun to torture me now, just wait until you get diagnosed". I especially love when someone asks me to go pick up a pizza.
  7. Danna Korn's book, Kids With Celiac Disease, has a lot of broad spectrum advice of the things you will encounter. Sound advice on "dealing with it and not dwelling on it". I will tell you to have some gluten free food with you at all times. Your child will be offered treats in many places. i.e. a sucker at the bank offered for good behaviour or just...
  8. Getting diagnosed Celiac changes your life. You find out who your friends are. You find out who you are. Can you take someones's advice and act on it? OR Do you have to learn by your mistakes? There are stories out there about the gluten free eateries. Customers so happy, they cry. Families being able to go out to a safe place to celebrate, and...
  9. Stay on a normal diet and start the testing. When testing is done and even if the tests came back "normal" I would still try a gluten free diet. L.
  10. The phone numbers for the Grand Rapids support group, 616-363-5749 and 616-691-4906. For further details check Open Original Shared Link search for support groups. I couldn't find any working web sites for that area. Laura FYI The tri-counties Celiac support group for south eastern michigan Open Original Shared Link is having Dr. Fasano from the...
  11. Congratulations!! Good luck with those diapers!!! Laura
  12. HOW ON EARTH DID CANADIAN KAREN MISS THIS THREAD!!!? LUCKILY THE HALL'S COUGH DROP QUEEN WAS ON THE BALL TODAY!! Laura
  13. I gained more than the reccomended 25 to 35 pounds for each pregnancy (before Celiac ). First I was getting spoken to harshly for not gaining weight, then at four months pregnancy too much weight gain. Honestly I was starved at the beginning and ate more when I was NOT gaining weight. When I felt like I wasn't as hungry and just added an extra snack to...
  14. I have been praying for Noah and his family and care givers. Please give us an update when you can. L.

    ARCHIVED Doctors In Michigan

My daughter was tested by Hernando Lyons, Pediatric Gastroenterologist. He is at St. John's hospital which is on the border of Grosse Pointe and Detroit. He also has a satellite office in Macomb County near the M59 corridor on Romeo Plank Road (if I remember that right). If you are going for further testing your child will have to consume gluten for...
  16. I'm glad the information is getting out there, and hopefully people will get some help. I am concerned Gluten-free Casein-free is getting "controversial diet" label added to the media. L. Great job Karen getting the links on the comments section!
  17. I didn't get a chance to watch the show last night. (I won't watch the show if there is any chance my kid's are around to see or hear any of it.) But I have a even creepier story for you.... My son is 8. He tries everything under the sun and more to stay up at night. He kept coming out of his room talking about lights. Had to double check all basement...
  18. Everyone has given great advice. I suggest keeping a food journal. This can help you pin point possible gluten mistakes and identify other foods that may be a problem. Some gluten free foods may be a problem until her tummy heals. Laura
  19. WOW This is great news! We have some people who e-mail newbies an information packed "starter kit". We can add this site. Thank you, Laura
  20. If you are going for a medical diagnoses, you MUST eat gluten. You must continue to cause enough damage to be detected for the tests. Work with a specialist. Remember there are a lot of false negative tests. Some people have said they are having to pay a higher life insurance premium, and having a harder time getting medical insurance after diagnoses...
  21. I just want to welcome you to the board too. Have you tried any of the Chebe bread mixes they are gluten and yeast free? Laura
  22. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Blessings for your family. Laura Good luck Angie!
  23. For just starting out, you handled things like a pro! Look things over on the internet to get an idea of a brand, and when you get there - read the ingredients before you eat it. I have seen some strange things on ice cream labels. Peanuts were in plain chocolate flavor. Things that just seem very unexpected for the flavor that is represented.
  24. If it is joust a control thing, let her make some of the decisions. Apple or orange, make sure you can have the options ready for her choices. It will teach her to make healthy decisions for her lifelong diet. If she still has elevated levels, her tummy must still hurt. L.
  25. Many Celiacs have posted about the elevated liver enzymes results of their tests. Is that how you found this site, by Googling "elevated liver enzymes"? The symptoms for Celiac are unique to the individual. Some have no symptoms - but a blood test shows anemia, others are violently ill within minutes of consumption. L.
