  1. I finally got the website to work. Doesn't look like a typo at all compared to the rest of the items. 12 Twinkies for $21!! A seven inch double layer cake for $45. I don't have anything nice to say at the moment. L.
  2. You could try www.unitedbuyingclubs.com to see if there is a co-op in your area. There are a lot of gluten and organic items. It saves about 20% on the items but you order by the case. I hope you get answers soon. L.
  3. Her reaction to the diet shows that she has a problem with gluten. You don't need a doctor's permission to be on a gluten free diet. If you are concerned with school, just tell them what happens when she eats gluten. The school does not want to deal with a kid having "D" and keep her as gluten free as possible. L.
  4. Hi Carol, I have actually seen a little boy who lives near us get a skin contact rash from gluten. (I never saw him touch it.) I did see him "sense" out Playdoh hidden on a shelf out of his normal range of vision. He didn't want to play with it he just shuddered at the sight of it. He was too young to speak. He also reacts to dogs. His mother was very...
  5. Are you sure that wasn't a typo?
  6. Can you have someone smell your breath? Do you have any symptoms of diabetes? Sinus problems? Any tooth problems? L.
  7. He was looking a bit tired the last time I visited in October. He mentioned not working weekends til the new year. Next time I go, I will try and get the recipe for you. Laura How are you doing out there with all that snow?
  8. If you continue testing, stay on gluten and get another doctor. If you start the diet, traditional testing is over. If you have a positive reaction to the diet, you will stay on it for life. Some people have a hard time staying on the diet if they start to doubt themselves. Genetic testing will not be entirely accurate and doctors will not diagnose Celiac...
  9. OK. I think every one has days like this, (maybe weeks, possibly a year, maybe two,) What do you want to do about it? I started entertaining at home a lot more. Every where I look in my house I have memories of a good time or two. I started trying to bake and cook a lot more foods. No pressure, if it doesn't turn out I blame it on gluten. I did...
  10. Congratulations Angie!!! What a wonderful way to start the new year. L.
  11. Soy and oats do not have gluten. The protein chain for soy and oats are similar to the protein chain of gluten. Some Celiacs react to the protein chain of soy and/or oats. There is still an ongoing debate about oats, it seems all US oats are too cross-contaminated with gluten to be safe. There are some oats being labeled "gluten free". L.
  12. Ask all the questions you want. When a question gets asked someone pulls up another article I haven't read yet. So you help so many people in the long run. L.
  13. I agree with the previous posts. Just to be safe double check all of the hygeine products. Lipgloss, shampoo, skin lotion, and even deodorant. Having yooung kids your skin lotion having gluten in it can be an issue. Are there any cross-contamination items in the kitchen? L.
  14. smashed potato chips, parmesan cheese, add spices (no extra salt needed). Bake at 350. Not that healthy, but tastes great.
  15. I feel so bad for your terrible experience. I must tell you to have faith and persistence. We were lucky to find a pre-school that is wonderful about Celiac. The director's daughter has Celiac and she has been supportive for our family and the pre-school teachers. I brought the book by Danna Korn for the the school's teachers and asked that anything questionable...
  16. I'm hosting a house party. If you aren't doing anything, stop by. L.
  17. Use it like flour. Watch out for recipes with very small amount of flour to replace. If the recipe is a majority of flour it can have the strange taste of peas. L.
  18. What bread from Spain? L.
  19. In my opinion, the testing was not complete on the thyroid levels. I hope I explain this well enough. A diabetic person has different reactions happening in their body that affects the pancreas. We do not know how to identify those reactions, we can monitor the need for insulin because of those reactions. We are looking at the symptomatic response levels...
  20. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Every pregnancy is different. Laura
  21. My two Celiac, non-vaccinated kids had very mild cases of chicken pox. Chicken pox is a virus that over taxes the liver at flushing out the toxins. When the liver can no longer handle flushing the toxins, the body uses the next best organ for flushing out the toxins - the skin. L.
  22. Hey, I was in the same mess yesterday! YOU CAN NOT USE GINGERSNAP RECIPE FOR A CUTOUT SHAPE COOKIE. If you add more flour to the dough the cookies taste terrible. My daughter's class was just decorating the gingerbread men, and eating the cookies. I gave her gluten free frosting and had her put smiley faces on K-toos. She was happy with that. L.
  23. Oh thank you for clarifying that, I should have said I use the white chocolate bars. L.
  24. I was undiagnosed during both pregnancies. I gained so much weight, without eating any more food than I usually did. I have to say pregnancy reduces symptoms. During pregnancy your immune system is not fully functioning, or it would attack the baby. This is one of the reasons doctors tell you to avoid crowds when pregnant to reduce your chance of illness...
  25. If you want to make that cake at home, look for the Emerill's flourless chocolate torte. L.
