ARCHIVED New To All Of This And Looking For Support
mommida replied to MommyStina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know of other things that would be causing IGa levels. A damaged gut could be sensitive to many things along with gluten. (I could not handle annatto, distilled vinegar, spinach, eggs, gluten free vitamins with iron, or any type of alcohol including vanilla for the first year of gluten free.) Keep a food journal to narrow down these other sensitivities... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Hives From Gluten?
mommida replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got hives from using a shampoo that had a labeling error and contained wheat. The hives were the worst on my chest. Some on the ears and back of my neck and upper arms. Double check the shampoo. -
Iodine is supposed to be able to bring on DH symptoms when applied to the skin.

ARCHIVED Beau's Lines
mommida replied to MrMark's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have Beau's lines. They are not as severe since gloing gluten free. I have vertical ridges and the nail tips are flat and curl under. Finger/toe nails and hair show a lot of vitamin defiencies or symptoms of under lying disease. -
Don't expect to find grocery stores in the downtown area. You are going to have better luck in the suberbs. I suspect you will be on I-75? So the Troy area might be a convenient stop if you are north of Detroit. Royal Oak is the area's growing "trendy" spot and easy to get to the expressways. South of Detroit, I'm not really sure of the most convenient...

Mine cleared up on the gluten free diet. In the days before starting the gluten free diet, the cream helped a lot. Exfoliating never helped. L

Kroger's and Meijer's have specialty food/organic sections in them. There are Whole Foods Markets and Good Food Company in certain areas. If you let me know exactly what areas you will be visiting I will try and give you a better answer. Call Joe Louis and see what they say. (I usually don't eat anything at JLA) Mickey Redmond is on a gluten free diet...

ARCHIVED Looking For A Good Breadstick Recipe...
mommida replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you make the breadsticks, then freeze, and thaw for serving~they are not crisp on the outside, but still soft and chewy on the inside. BTW I find it saves me a lot of time by doubling the recipes/ make up two mixes and freeze. Then I can rotate through the frozen goodies and bake once a week. Laura -
ARCHIVED Guys - Peripheral Symptoms? (don't Read If Easily Shocked)
mommida replied to gfp's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The headaches and muscle cramps could be related to a magnesium, potassium defiency. You need Calcium to absorb the Magnesium. From the trauma and weight loss, I suspect vitamin and nutrient defiencies. I hope you will come to terms with the betrayal of your ex. Your ex cheated on you, not your current relationship. Stop punishing yourself for bad... -
ARCHIVED Special Foods.com - Karen Slimak
mommida replied to Gentleheart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried going to the site and had too many problems. I've never heard of her or her products. -

ARCHIVED Prayer Request

Christina Rogers. They decided not to take her knee caps during the last surgery. The patient they had two years ago with a similar situation is doing very well. His wife called to say he was shoveling snow!!? I don't know how much amputation he had, but what Dr.s can do with prosthetics for patients is pretty amazing. With that, I have hope. I hope... -
ARCHIVED Prayer Request
mommida replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If you have any pictures of Noah, it would be nice to give the family. It will help them remember Noah's life, not the last few weeks. Tell them that you are here for them and that you care. My friend is fighting for her life right now in U of M. Bacterial infections have lead to sepsis, organ failure, surgical removal of the dead infected skin, and... -

ARCHIVED Supposed Non-celiac Son's Lab Results - Help (please)!
mommida replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people have reported their "official" Celiac diagnoses have left them paying higher insurance premiums (health and life). An un-official diagnoses can be a gift in disguise. -
ARCHIVED Horrible Bruising On Arm After Blood Test?
mommida replied to HAK1031's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, that has happened to me. The blood draw I had went very at first, just like you described. I was just going to put my jacket on to leave when I noticed that I was bleeding and my shirt sleeve was all bloody about five inches above my elbow and dripping from my hand. The nurse rubbed it applied pressure to stop it. It must have kept bleeding internally... -
I would like to suggest the book, Get Out ot that Pit, by Beth Moore. You are one step closer to where you need to be. You have decided something needs to change. Laura

ARCHIVED Frozen Veggies
mommida replied to ruthla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I react to spinach. I can not handle most (all but one) iron supplements. It is possible that you can have reactions to foods other than gluten. -
My dentist office has been great! Give them a call, probably explain what Celiac/ need to be gluten free means for you. Take the time to have a plan of action. The last thing you need is to have dental problems untreated. Good luck! Laura

ARCHIVED Update
mommida replied to sillyactsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is great news! I have been thinking about you, how nice to hear things are working out. Thanks for posting, because I really needed to hear some good news. Laura -
ARCHIVED The Celiac Genes
mommida replied to Joyous's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would be another prime example too. My daughter's test came back positive for DQ2 and DQ8, and my test came back negative. If my daughter had the "official" diagnoses, we would have been in the study at Columbia to identify the "missing gene". -
Everyone has given many of the ideas I had when first reading your post. Vitamin B defiencies can lead to severe anxiaty and loss of appetite. Can you ask about vitamin defiencies at your next appointment? We are all here for support and information sharing. Laura

ARCHIVED Ceoliacs And Hashimotos
mommida replied to chenal52000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I totally agree. I think they should screen all auto-immune thyroid disease and diabetic patients. All the statistics are changing daily, and the rates and incidences keep going up. Laura -
ARCHIVED Bavarian Inn - Frankenmuth Michigan
mommida replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I heard that if you can call ahead, the bakery will make gluten free baked goods too! -
ARCHIVED Ceoliacs And Hashimotos
mommida replied to chenal52000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a 10% correlation between Celiac and auto-immune thyroid disease. Considering the other auto-immune family history, your daughter should be screened. You should also get familiar with the symptoms, in case she does not come back positive but develops them in the future.
