for quick pie crust, you can also use Gluten Free Pantry brand pie crust mix. My unceliac family likes it better than wheat crust! -
ARCHIVED A Little Insight From Others

to add to this, even restaurant tuna salad could have bread crumbs in it. I was told this by a woman whose family owned some diners here in NJ. They use the crumbs to stretch the salad out in order to make more money. -
With all due respect, your daughter is being glutened over and over and over and will never have complete auto-immune recovery while this practice goes on. She is cheating on the diet anyway, so why bother being gluten free all the other times? She's antagonizing her immune system each month and she's still at risk for the other health conditions untreated...

ARCHIVED Doctor Says Definitely Not Celiac
debmidge replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hope your son will be feeling better very soon. Keep in mind that he would have potential for active case of celiac if as you say may develop it at a later stage. Since celiac can "arrive" stealthily you'd be unaware of it's existence. Perhaps in an effort then to stay healthy when and if that happens and to instill the method of eating gluten free... -

Welcome to the board. One of the board members, Nini, has a newbie help site. I'll try to find her info for you. Perhaps in meanwhile one of our other members will post it. In the meanwhile labels are better than there were before, but they don't have to label oat, barley or rye on it - - only wheat. ingredients that are "iffy" is modified... -

Our Wal Mart doesn't carry their full line of foods. The people who live around Wal Mart protested the size of their proposed building and Wal Mart agreed to keep the building smaller and not stocking everything that they sell. -

Merchandisers use music in stores the same way as the rats in the experiment. Calm, happy music produced more sales; wild erratic music drove shoppers away : subconsciously.

Funny you mention annato...I noticed it was in Lactaid brand cheese and looked it up in CSA's gluten-free product list/guide and they say that it's OK - Consistent with a gluten free diet at this time. They state: "vegetable dye. Maybe labeled as an extract. Often used to color margarine, sausage casing and is used as an ink for marking food products... -
ARCHIVED One Of The Top 10 Hated Responses From
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even if we ask our MDs or dietians in the end we still aren't sure about the product. I can't be "responsible for my health" if I am being kept out of the loop. I am finding that the GLUTEN FREE labeling is being removed on products which were formerly known as gluten-free. It is confusing because it leaves one wondering if the product was re... -

RE: Does this product contain gluten? Other than the "we cannot guarantee" statement issued by manufacturers I hate when they respond by throwing the problem back at you by telling you that you have to check with your doctor or with a dietian. How in heaven's name would an MD or dietian know if the product is gluten free as these people don't make... -

ARCHIVED Frustrated By Friend Who's Dh Is Supposedly Celiac!vent!
debmidge replied to LyndaCanada's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If find the wife's attitude very curious...perhaps SHE's convincing her husband that a little gluten won't hurt him because if she doesn't that'll be the end of perhaps eating out, more burdens for her with regard to everyday things and vacationing. I sense a selfish motive - she's demeaning your choice of gluten-free life in order to maintain her... -

ARCHIVED I Have Just Been Diagnosed With Celiac

...well not NYC style bagels anyway. There are reasonable substitutes but I do not know what they are. Kinnickinnick (a mail order bread company) has a good selection; so they might have a reasonable kind of bagel. Maybe others on board can tell of their "gluten-free bagel" experiences. -

RE: Breadmachine It isn't a necessity ....you can make a loaf of bread by hand by either following a receipe or getting a Gluten Free Pantry bread mix. Mix in a bowl, place in bread pan, let rise and bake. Slice when cool and freeze the slices for future use. Used food appliances are a bad idea unless you are prepared to purchase a new "bucket... -
are gluten-free dumplings Asian dumplings or the type of dumplings that go in stew type receipes? If the latter, who'd have a receipe for that!? And yeah, why are they discussing gluten-free on this show? someone on show maybe has celiac disease in real life or does character claim to have it? Interesting....

...I went to private religious school when I was a kid, and they tested us like this back then (1960's) and we were lucky that they allowed us to eat lunch, lest we have to give it up as penance for not making "A" on the test. Extra food in classroom was unheard of...a reward was a gold star sticker perhaps. Today's teachers have to be aware of so... -
Just want to mention that a sonogram a few months ago which did not show ovarian cysts cannot prevent a new ovarian cyst from popping up. Your body changes every 28 days and a week after the sonogram, in theory, you could have started developing a cyst that would by now enlarge itself making your abdomen painful. I get them often these days, they go...
