  1. I do not feel that what is said on this board constitutes "hate speech." That's stretching it somehow. A specious agrument at best. Pretty soon there will be, at least here in the USA, a website that shows what medical professionals were disciplined by their Medical Boards. And that would not be considered "hate" speach. As far as I recall, it's...
  2. anyone know how Chili's makes their burgers? any possibility of cross contam on the grill?
  3. I suspect my sister in law has undiagnosed celiac (for many years now) and also has sleep apnea (she's very thin , but she smokes, doesn't drink - as they say that drinking even one drink before bedtime can give you apnea - doesn't have nasal allergies).
  4. Laura - your story about your grandma reminded me about my husband's grandma. A few months after we were married, she kept asking me if my father allowed me to stay out until midnight on new years eve (it was New Year's eve that day). I kept repeating after each time she asked, that Mike & I were married now (I was 22 yrs old but looked 18 still...
  5. Hi all My husband is Italian on dad's side and german/danish on mothers. Strangely enough he believes his father had undiagnosed celiac (dad passed away 5 years ago and #1 reason for death was anemia and they couldn't find how he was losing blood - in retrospect, we now feel it was celiac as he also wasn't absorbing the food they were giving him thru...
  6. pre diagnosis my hubby had esophogitis and that was cause of his difficulty in swallowing.
  7. Jnkmky: That's right we should bring this info out of this board -- we are trying: my husband was the subject of a recent Wall Street Journal article last Dec. Front page. He only agreed to give the reporter his story in an effort to make Celiac more public and the Reporter's angle (from before he contacted my husband) was to explore the fact that...
  8. I have to remember to rinse my hands after I handle gluten but before I touch other surfaces in the kitchen. I wash/rinse before I reopen the refrigerator door as I don't want to transfer gluten from hand to the door handle. Maybe that's a little extreme but I want to eliminate any gluten exposure.
  9. Bernses: Love the idea for the bills! To all who seem to think that we are ranting and raving, and weeping and gnashing teeth for nothing and being unfair to doctors, I only have this comment: DON'T SPIT IN THE WIND!! You are going to live a lot longer and may have the same experience we've had and someday be chomping mad. Let's hope whereever...
  10. General Warning Content of this Post Could be Offensive to those who think that this board is a support group for doctors: #1, if you are going to participate, you must read the final pages of the posts. In order to speak with some credibility, you should read the entire thing; you might give a "pass" to doctors who don't know everything, but I don...
  11. the Dowd & Rogers has chestnut flour in it. Is there a telltale chestnut taste? How does Dowd & Rogers and "Cause Your Special" mixes stack up against other gluten-free cake mixes?
  12. Rachel Good idea for this thread. It's one of the best threads I read in a while. learned a lot D.
  13. Years ago I read the books by the veterinarian James Herriot (I recommend his books highly). And he describes a vet's life before anti biotic. In one of his books he tells about how some vets would have "poor doers" (animal patients that no matter what meds you give them or treatment, they aren't getting better) and that some vets would actually prefer...
  14. I had an opportunity yesterday to discuss celiac with one of my customers who casually told me she was going to gastro for a liver problem, but described symptoms her mother had which could be celiac. I gave her the usual run down of what common symptoms are, and told her about how sometimes the only symptom is neurological. She said that she was...
  15. To Monica: I will "google" NF1 to find out more. I think Discovery Health had a program about it and that's why I asked to see if it was what I remembered it to be. What is the link with NF1 and celiac? I am sure that every woman who has celiac disease and is contemplating having children would ask this question too.... Also what is link between...
  16. Mike, have you gone to a neurologist for more testing? See attorney however, before you do this: speak to the owner of the business you work for and explain that you're trying to resolve a mild health problem? (don't overplay it, just keep your explanations simple and assure them that it's a mild problem...or would that mean the death knell of your...
  17. Yes, I think mine is the 6000 (the 2 lb loaf maker) and I am satisified with the results. You have to help it mix in the beginning as it can leave piles of flour unmixed in the corners of the bread pan.
  18. Normally if you ask for copies of test results, they don't flinch anymore. Years ago you'd have to have a good reason and they would decide (I'm talking 20 years ago or more) if they wanted to give them to you or not.
  19. Ahhhh..I got teary for you just reading the post. It'll get better and then you'll stick your tongue out at gluten and say "I don't need or want YOU any more!"
  20. Thanks for the Hugs (those who end their posts in Hugs) I really feel for those who have had problems with the medical personnel in getting to where we are today and I am glad that those who had problems with the medical personnel can easily forgive and forget; and to those who had no problems with the medical personnnel that's a blessing in your life.
  21. I didn't start to mistrust doctors until AFTER the years of going from doctor to doctor (Yes, we were firing doctor after doctor, and still not getting a "keeper") for over two decades. A decade is 10 years. With each new doctor I had hope that this would be the one to get it right. As mentioned the one in 1994 was very arrogant when I questionned...
  22. None of the doctors my husband went to were pill pushers. On the contrary over the years, I would ask them if they had something that could help him (hubby always wants me to go into office visit with him cause he gets nervous) and they replied no. As a matter of fact, first misdiagnosis was done by the Veteran's Administration Hopsital in East Orange...
  23. I must be honest, I think the majority of doctors are ill prepared for making a celiac disease diagnosis, but I think most suffer from "I'm God" syndrome. I have to be honest; I can't be less than honest on this subject. My husband has gone thru a personal h*ll for 26 years and went to about 7 doctors (3 GI's); not only to be misdiagnosed but eventually...
  24. for temporary relief from hard stools consider and ask Dr. if OK to use a stool softener (Colace). This would at least give you relief until you learn what is the culprit. If it's oK to use, use only the smallest dose (1 pill a day).
