  1. Pleasantly surprised that they are Gluten Free. Found this on the Frequently Asked Questions section of their website.
  2. Didn't know they made it that way...but my husband can have the fat in his diet. I thought perhaps that defatted was better for receipes or something like that.

    ARCHIVED Zelnorm

My goal is not to be constipated as I developed fissures it was so bad. I get bound up by eating certain foods, like chocolate. But overall I've had this problem since I was a teen. About 15 years ago I ended up needing an operation on my sphincter muscle (sphincterectomy) in addition to hemmorrid surgery. The muscle was too tight from years of dealing...
  4. Stef, thanks for the good post.
  5. Uncle isn't convinced that celiac is a real disease. It's time that your 16 year old speak for himself by telling uncle, in a nice way, that while he'd like to order any old thing from the menu, he knows not to take that risk and to stick to the gluten free diet as he doesn't want to feel sick later. Plain and simple response and Uncle will then know...
  6. My husband big Nittany fan (by the way, what is a "Nittany" -- couldn't find it in dictionary. Loves his Nittany Lion T-shirts too. Had to find Penn State's gift shop on line to buy them for him! Last one I got him after I went to PA on trip wore out.
  7. This was a hard question for my husband While he is relieved as well for finally knowing what he has had for these past 27 years, he said he'd rather lose all his hair than have this or any disease. He doesn't miss junk food, but he misses eating fruits, vegetables, tomato sauce or spices. (Yes, I know regular celiacs can have them, but he's been so ravaged...
  8. Someone on another post mentioned this company (Honeyville Grains) as a source for corn bran. I can't find them on the internet. Could anyone who knows about this company let me know their website address or phone number so I can get a catalog.... I thank you for your help. Deb
  9. We've tried Bob's corn flour and that too was problemic...Bob's corn flour must not be processed in gluten-free facility or it'd say "gluten-free" on the label.
  10. P.S. I've tried the Shiloh brand and think we had some cross contamination issues and will not use that brand again unless Shiloh can assure that they have gluten-free facilities, etc., etc.,
  11. Hi Does anyone know of a source thru internet/mail order that sells this in smaller quantities (I don't need to buy a barrel full, if you know what I mean). I used to get the Corn mix from Ener-G but found Kinninick sold it without the baking powder. Now Kinni removed it from their website, so it appears that they don't sell it anymore. Ener...
  12. Ryebaby Would you post your gingerbread cookie receipe? ..
  13. as my husband says in the words of "the Borg": We are celiac, we will assimilate you. Resistance is futile. Congratulations on officially joining the ranks of those who are pioneers in this era where this newly emerging condition will be finally recognized by the medical establishment and will be diagnosed better.
  14. Your co workers' ignorance is showing. There are so many hard hearted people out there.
  15. Your Mom's behavior sounds so "passive-aggressive." It' s the giggle that makes me feel like she's testing you to see if you'll cave in to her wishes and eat gluten; you eating gluten would be her triumph. Like the other poster said about people who are dieting to lose weight and someone offers them something bad to eat. Next time it happens suggest...
  16. Someone mentioned earlier that other diseases could be cause of illness and not Celiac (my condensed version of the prior posts). My husband had un or mis diagnosed celiac disease since 1977 and in 1992 my father got same symptoms and naturally concluded that he had IBS (remember, during 1992 my husband was under the diagnosis of IBS/colitis/irritable...
  17. My husband had York testing and they say that he has corn allergy/intolerance but he eats it anyway because he can't have soy, sorghum and of course WOBR. He feels deprived enough so he eats it as corn flakes and cream style corn (not everyday) and gluten-free cornbread. I am not fully certain that the York testing is legit anyway.....
  18. For the 10 years prior to the correct celiac disease Diagnosis my husband's depression was deep enough to need medications but he could not tolerate the side effects. He had depression to the point of thinking of not living anymore. I'd go to work and worry about him all day. After going gluten-free his depression is not as severe, but yes it...
  19. RE: Miscarriage If you really want children then do it. Don't let someone else's past be held over your head. Each pregnancy is different and if we all sat around and avoided having children by worrying over what could happen, no one would ever have children. I could not have children, but it wasn't due to celiac. Before I knew I couldn't have...
  20. Two years ago when my husband was diagnosed with celiac disease we purchased a Breadman bread machine. We use the Gluten Free pantry bread mixes (purchased from Whole Foods, or mail order Gluten Free Pantry or believe it or not "Pathmark Supermarket.") You can make your dough one night and immediately put it in the refrigerator and bake it the next night...
  21. Hi There are other foods that my husband who has celiac cannot tolerate. So it might not all be gluten but other sources (like milk, corn, soy, etc.) that are bothering you. D.
  22. Dear Jackie: That is great - all in one day! D.
  23. Karen With all honesty I don't think this is a good test. They could be using oats that were cross contaminated with wheat. After all, they are the grade of oats that people do not eat (I would assume they are not a fine grade of oat). If you do use it, then let us know the outcome. Debbie
  24. If I recall, the mother got her answer which was no, and the church officicals decided not to address this issue at this time. Or something like that, so it got tabled for another time.
