  1. maltodextrin in the US is safe (I think it's derived from corn) in food, but I've been told (not positive though) that it might not be safe in hair products, etc. I assumed maltodextrin wasn't safe b/c of the word malt, but that has nothing to do with the malt that we think of.
  2. Christa - that looks wonderful! Do you know how much you will be charging? My sister lives near Orlando, so we plan to go down there a lot, but she has a cat and I can't stay at her house (I'm extremely allergic to her cat). Could you email me this link and the price and how to contact you in the future so I can keep it in my files? My email is wondrwho...
  3. infertility is also a symptom of celiac, so you have more than just one (sorry). Why do they want to do the blood test again after 3 months - that will not really tell you anything except for maybe the fact that if it is in the normal range, then the gluten-free diet is working. It took me 6 months on the diet before I even noticed any difference, and...
  4. I second the GFP brownies - they are the best and all my nonceliac friends love them better than regular brownies! I make coca krispy treats (the rice krispie recipe but use Cocoa Krispies instead - they are gluten free and make a very sweet dessert)
  5. I got somje turkey jerky at Whle Foods that was pretty good and said gluten-free on the package. Sorry I can't remember the name - I ate it and the package is gone, but it was a low fat turkey jerky (obviously not teriyaki flavored)
  6. Thanks Karen! I can't wait to try these new recipes!
  7. After reading these posts this morning I was so craving bready things that I made the Olive Oregeno rolls from the website above, using the garlic and onion chebe mix. They were yummy! I would love your recipe with the cream cheese, and the doughnut holes too! Thanks!
  8. I was using BJs brand of prenatals, but then they shut down their pharmacy so I switched to Target's brand. They are gluten-free (I confirmed with the company) and have the same percentages of everything as the prescription prenatals (these aren't prescription - in a pink and blue bottle). Congrats!
  9. Sounds like I need to be more adventurous in my chebe baking - all these ideas sound great! Karen B. - when you say you let them sit overnight, is that before baking or after baking?
  10. In the US, modified food starch would have to say "wheat" if it contains wheat. Most is made from corn. It could theoretically be made from barely or rye, but I don't think any is (Richard knows more about this, but if it says modified food starch and does not say wheat anywhere, then I will eat it). Oatmeal has lots of different issues - mainly CC...
  11. chebe is different - some people love it and some hate it. It is very chewy/doughy (if you make the balls/rolls. I made pizza crust with it and it was pretty good - thicker and chewier than I'm used to in "normal" pizza crust, but my non-celiac husband ate it and said it was good. My 2 yr. old wouldn't touch it though, but she's pretty picky If you...
  12. I had oral thrush when I was breastfeeding - same white stuff on my tongue. Had to have special antibiotics to get rid of it (that was before my celiac dx). Anyway, I think thrush/yeast infections can be caused by antibiotics too, so her current antibiotics are probably what has caused it. I would mention it to her dr. on Friday. I don't think it's any...
  13. I saw a recipe for them - I think on Pamelas website, using her biscuit and pancake mix. I haven't tried it yet though, but I've been craving sof pretzels too so maybe I'll try it this weekend. I'll let you know if it works!
  14. Where are yoiu staying? We went last October and it was so wonderful (my first trip gluten-free) that I did not want to come home, ever! We stayed at the Pop Century, which only had food court (not sit down) food, but they were incredible. You just need to talk to the head chef/manager on duty when you are getting ready to eat - ask anyone at any of the...
  15. A friend of mine wants to go to a new Vietnamese place. I recall reading at one point that Vietnamese food is "gluten free friendly" - does anyone have any suggestions on what to order? I've never had Vietnamese, gluten-free or not
  16. The Thai Kitchen noodle things (they make soup bowls and "meals" in rectanle boxes are great! Just make sure you check the ingredients - the ones that are gluten free will say so in red under the ingredient lst. NOt all are gluten-free. Also, Chick-fil-A, Wendy's, Outback, PF Changs, Smokey Bones (if you have that there), and Chilis are a few chain...
  17. Have you had your thyroid checked? Your symptoms sound like thyroid. You would need your TSH, free T3 and free T4 checked (many doctors don't check all 3 of these).
  18. anyone ever try just taking a little bit of the GFP french bread mix and putting it in muffin tins (I was thinking maybe just 2 or 3 muffins) and then putting the rest in the regular loaf pan? I was wanting to try "rolls" but didn't want to waste the whole package. Since Johalex divides it into 2 pans and it works, I thought why wouldn't it work just taking...
  19. You can probably just run your old plates/silverware and pots, etc. through the dishwasher if they aren't too scratched up. I only replaced my scratched up non-stick pots and bakeware, all wooden spoons and cutting boards (I now have specific gluten-free cutting board/spoons and the old ones are for my husband/daughter to use), collander, and ended up getting...
  20. glad you made your 500 mark - you always make me laugh

    ARCHIVED Chili's

Me too! When do they have this soup?! I usually get the burger no bun and steamed broccoli, but the last 2 times I got the margarita chicken and it was really good.
  22. wow, thanks for the link I ate at O'charley's once b/c it was the only restaurant in town that was possibly safe (in a small town in KY) and I just talked to the waitress and manager both about gluten and the issues, and they assured me they could make a safe meal (burger to bun and steamed broccoli - this seems to be my standby now) and I was fine. Now...
  23. I wouldn't assume they tested for candida - from what I've heard, dr's don't really "believe" in that. Candida was the first thing I thought though when i read your symptoms. Antibiotics will cause it to go crazy. Google candida and diet - maybe you should give that a try? It is very restrictive, and you'll have to cut out the rice and all starches/sugars...
  24. Cocoa Pebbles are still gluten free, at least in my area (Southeast USA). They have not changed. Whole Foods also has gluten free sausages in all kinds of different flavors, and turkey bacon (regular too if you like that) that you could fry up on a hot plate very easily. Make sure you read the ingredients in the sausages though b/c some flavors are not...
  25. It does sound like it could be celiac, and since you can't do the testing now trying the gluten-free diet over the summer sounds like your best option. Just remember if you do want testing in the future, he will have to be eating gluten (except for the genetic test - you don't need to be eating gluten for that). You can get rice pasta (Tinkyada, Orgrans...
