  1. But what have your daughter's follow-up tests shown? richard
  2. Never found a mayo with gluten in the U.S. And magarine is also almost universally gluten-free. richard
  3. I don't bother with $5 pizza crusts. I buy a $1.50 bag of Mission white corn tortillas and make mini-pizzas. But I was never a thick crust fan, either. richard
  4. I obviously can't say absolutely that your husband has celiac disease, although it sounds like a strong possibility. But if he's working in a Chick-fil-A with all that flour and gluten, he is without question getting contaminated. The flour is all over the place and on everything. It would be absolutely impossible to avoid. If he indeed has celiac disease...
  5. Sorry you're irritated but McD has told others more than once that the supplier says processing removes the gluten, NOT that the frying removes it. This includes when I called. I think McD knows that frying doesn't remove gluten. Have you considered that perhaps the person you spoke with just had it wrong? Have you called back to see why you got a different...
  6. "Indeed, I went on their newly updated website (update done 2/8/06) and found that the burgers and fries (and most everything else they sell) contain wheat." The burgers DO NOT have wheat in them unless you eat the bun. The burger patties are gluten-free. They're nothing but beef. Really. If you can find different on the McD website, please show us where...
  7. I know of nothing wrong with Kraft foods. As is true with ANY processed food, there's always some chance of CC. If you don't find the thread or if you find there's nothing wrong, please go back and delete your message so as not to worry people unnecessarily. richard
  8. A decent dermatologist should at least do a biopsy on the stuff to see if it's DH. My dermatologist knew as soon as he saw it what it was. I had DH for more than 20 years with no GI or other symptoms at all. My father had it for 30 years with no GI. I assume a person your daughter's age can take dapsone and if it's that bad she should until she's been...
  9. The chances of CC might be high at BK, but they DO NOT HAVE a wheat coating. All you have to do to confirm that is go to the BK website and read the ingredients. richard
  10. Raw nuts are gluten-free. richard
  11. This is not a concern. Fruit does not have wheat coatings. Don't drive yourself crazy. richard
  12. Can you name a brand for us? That would be helpful. richard
  13. Corn gluten is not a problem as far as celiac goes. This is a scientific fact. Could be a separate problem, however. MSG is gluten-free. richard
  14. Enrico. Contadino (sp?). Kraft clearly lists any gluten. richard
  15. MSG is gluten-free. I have no problems at all with it. richard
  16. Chipotle is very good and fairly safe. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. As you get more experience, you'll discover things that are easy to carry. It'll be second nature. I travel all over the place and although I DO eat out some, I carry most of my food. richard
  17. I probably don't have the suggestions you really need, but if you haven't even gone gluten-free, it will be a while yet before you can really get back into the exercise thing. You have to let your body recover and build back up some energy. At this point in your recovery, exercise isn't going to provide more energy. Opinions about the medical bracelet...
  18. In general, Lindt is NOT gluten-free. It's one of the few chocolate brands I avoid (along with Godiva). richard
  19. Cynthia Rudert in the Atlanta area is a top celiac doctor but don't remember if she sees kids. richard
  20. I can't help you with the restaurant since you don't know where you're going. But many types of candy are gluten-free. One piece of advice, though. If you've been gluten-free for just a week-and-a-half and you've already tried eating out a few times, you're eating out way too much, especially for someone who just started. Eating out is the riskiest thing...
  21. Aside from the CC and transfat issues, there's also BK and Wendy's. Wendy's fries are not on their gluten-free list because there are some Wendy's that do not have a dedicated fryer. There's no wheat actually in the fries and most locations do have a dedicated fryer. As with everything else, you have to ask. BK fries are gluten-free but many have comp-lained...
  22. Some people report they've had good experiences there, BUT apparently their seasoning has wheat in it. You MUST talk to the manager and get everything plain. Everything depends on how seriously the manager takes it. I've avoided RL since diagnosis and eaten at other seafood places. richard
  23. I have been looking fora blue cheese and all of the ones I have picked up say wheat on them. So just read the labels carefully! That's strange, where I live (Virginia) I've never seen a blue cheese that specifically lists gluten, and that's in more than four years. I've had a copule of companies tell me that the cheese could have gluten but never seen...
  24. I don't know of any that do have gluten, but check the ingedients on the Kraft (Breakstone?). Kraft will clearly list any gluten. richard
  25. It is NOT true that all blue cheeses have gluten -- in fact it's debatable as to whether any have any measureable gluten, even the ones started on bread. I won't get into that, though. Many blue cheeses are now started on an artificial medium, not bread. I know that Boar's Head says its blue cheese is gluten-free. Marie's blue cheese dressing is gluten...
