  1. Refractory sprue is very, very rare. It's much more likely that you are making mistakes, that you aren't healed yet (you probably aren't; two months isn't much time), or even that you have bacterial overgrowth (try some probiotics). richard
  2. I hope you were able to get blood work done. It's VERY, VERY important. Most people have no probleme with dapsone, but some do and the only way to tell with some of them is blood tests. richard
  3. Play-Doh definitely has wheat in it. richard
  4. I'd just call McCormick and ask them about the large container. richard
  5. Call the Disney dining number and ask for info. You won't find a better place for eating with dietary restrictions. richard
  6. Use plain pumice or bring your own toothpaste. richard
  7. The fastest and most up-to-date is to call the manufacturers yourself. If they tell you they don't add gluten but they can't guarantee ingredient suppliers, it's gluten-free. I don't bother to ask the pharmacist. They don't know and often don't have time to find out. richard
  8. I think Mission makes its soft corn tortillas on a separate line or in a separate facility. You'd have to double check to be sure. richard
  9. Virtually all bacons are safe but there are a couple of smaller local or regional brands that aren't. The bacon at McDonald's is also not gluten-free. richard
  10. I don't understand why your family won't eat at least some of the things you fix. I fix lots and lots of things that would be gluten-free whether I had celiac or not. I'm not pressuring you to get your driver's license but it certainly seems like you'd have a lot more freedom that way. Neither of these is a criticism. There's absolutely no excuse for...
  11. I've never had any reactions from gluten on my skin. I had DH for more than 20 years. richard
  12. I never cook the noodles ahead and the lasagna turns out great. richard
  13. I was so sick fropm celiac that I find i have few problems sticking to the diet. Sure there are some things I miss, but I found some other things I like. Undiagnosed celiac nearly killed me, so I'm happy to stick to it. richard
  14. I think they're the same as the store, and there some unsafe ones. I know tomato and bacon is or was unsafe. richard
  15. Bone Suckin' and Sweet Baby Ray's are gluten-free and very good. Don't forget that with the new labeling law kicking in, it won't be too awfully long until things like MFS shouldn't be a worry. Although the labeling law doesn't cover barley, I've never heard of it being used in MFS or natural flavors or such. Manufacturers still can use their old labels...
  16. It depends so much on the person. I was having terrible anxiety attacks and depression after my daughter died not quite a year ago. Zoloft helped me become functional again and I've had no side effects that I know of. I've also had some counseling and try to exercise (something I need to do more of). As I approach the anniversary of her death I'm regressing...
  17. Diarrhea, depression, brain fog, and fatigue are among the more common symptoms of celiac. Of course they also apply to many other conditions. The other problems would not be as common to celiac. If the doctors can't find another reason, then what's to lose by testing for celiac (other than some cash of course)? richard
  18. I straddle the fence on Entrolab. I think the methods need independent confirmation, and it does seem like a lot of people are told they are at least gluten sensitive, although that might be at least partly because people who get tested already suspect a problem and many are right. I have heard of people who have come back negative, but you're not going to...
  19. It's not unusual at all for symptoms to go away during teen years. For many, they come back full force and worse. This can happen anywhere from your 20s to your 40s. richard
  20. When I took dapsone it was no more than 25 mg per day but I think my father was up to 100 at one point. You can increase it on your own, HOWEVER, if your doctor has not done blood tests yet, he's not doing his job. It's my understanding that you should have blood tests very soon after you start and certainly by three months. After you've been tested a...
  21. I'd clean it thoroughly and use it. You could even run it some without mixing anything to loosen up anything in there. richard
  22. The Health Valley cereals are the olny ones I know of. If you don't find them right away keep trying. Apparently the company ran out recently. richard
  23. I know nothing about Shaw's brand but I've also never found a garlic powder with gluten. Contamination seems more likely to me. richard
  24. You don't have to worry about plain soy, just soy sauce. The smoked salmons I've found have been gluten-free. richard
  25. Never seen a peanut butter with gluten, and definitely not one that has nothing but peanuts. richard
