  1. Heinz apple cider vinegar IS gluten-free -- it's the apple cider FLAVORED vinegar that isn't gluten-free. There'sa big difference; the flavored vinegar isn't really made with apple cider. Real apple cider vinegar is without exception gluten-free, even in the standard store. I've never found one that isn't gluten-free. If you have found real apple cider vinegars...
  2. This sounds like Cynthia Rudert from Atlanta. She spoke at a GIG national conference I went to. I know she recommends probiotics to ALL of her celiac patients. richard
  3. If you're reacting to all distilled vinegars or "vinegar," then it's not gluten. Very, very, very, very few vinegars are made from wheat. richard
  4. As a former newspaper and wire service reporter, to me this means he isn't interested unless somebody files a lawsuit. And even then it would have to be a really big deal lawsuit. richard
  5. If you never ever use gluten pasta in the colander and it's been thoroughly cleaned, I wouldn't worry about it. BUT, if you want to be real cautious, colanders are cheap. I have one of my own but live in a house with two gluten eaters. richard
  6. I can't say about the Tylenol children's, but the other response is a CYA in case something tiny amount of gluten gets in somehow somewhere. Very few companies of any kind test their products for gluten. I'd use it without hesitation as long as they're telling you the ingredients aren't supposed to have gluten, especially with medications. richard
  7. I don't deep-fry my wings. I bake them in the oven at about 450. They take longer but they're slightly more healthy that way. And they taste great. richard
  8. Here's what one person on this list got: "He (Ron) said that they just got an internal memo and have removed wheat as an ingrediant on the list for FF. The deal is that the oil used (he didn't mention flavorings) with the FF contained remnants of dairy and wheat. But, he told me that the suppliers believe that the wheat and dairy proteins are removed during...
  9. "So, the logical answer, IMO, is the gluten is till in the fries. As I siad, unless your willing to fry up a piece of wholewheat bread and eat it, you should not eat McDonalds fries. That is the only logical conclusion I can see unless we get new information that changes things." Allegedly any wheat that the par fry oil might have come in contact with...
  10. I also posted Cynthia Kupper's reply on a separate thread. For those of you who don't know, she's the person who was responsible for getting Outback to go through their menu and mark the gluten-free items. She knows more about gluten and ingredients than anybody here, and certainly more than McD knows. If you don't trust her, then there's porbably nobody...
  11. Another person on the St. John's list contacted Cynthia Kupper (the woman who works with Outback to put out their gluten-free menu) about the McD fries and here's what she says: This is a case of McDonalds following the letter of the law, but without the FDA having the exceptions in place - it is causing confusion. This is a perfectly safe ingredient...
  12. Lynne, I made a mistake in my last post not saying something like, "I'm sure you didn't know and therefore didn't mean any harm." I apologize. I reacted a little too strongly. We all worry about our children and I know you were scared to death when your child was so sick. richard
  13. Here' s a perspective from Bobbie on another list. I know Bobbie and she is extremely cautious. She almost never eats out. >>I decided to call McDonald's to see if I could sort this out. Here's what I found out: Nothing has changed about the fries. They have not added wheat to them. They are exactly the same today as they were last week. ...
  14. "I don't, however, think that it should be O.K. with ANYONE that when you go to a fast food restaurant you're taking a big chance with either your health or the health of your children." You're still not getting part of what I'm saying. Going to any fast-food restaurant is without question one of the riskiest things you can do as far as cross contamination...
  15. Paper products are just simply safe. If you're looing for gluten, look elsewhere. richard
  16. "According to Mcdonald's website last night, the bacon contains wheat.....unless that was a misprint too." Um, folks, the McD bacon has ALWAYS contained wheat and it's ALWAYS been clearly listed. It's also been common knowledge on all the celiac groups. If you weren't aware of it, you weren't checking things carefully. The bacon has never been on their...
  17. They are gluten-free. richard
  18. Can you call and ask? A lot of BBQ and ribs are gluten-free, but not all. richard
  19. This is what TR says on its website. We are pleased to be able to inform you that, at this time, all of our confections are gluten, peanut and nut product free. We do not use wheat, barley, rye, oats, triticale, spelt or any of their components and that includes our manufacturing process. We do use corn and soy products in the manufacturing of our products...
  20. The powder is usually corn or cellulose and it's certainly easy to check. The boxes usually say what's in there. richard
  21. Any grain can be malted. Usually it's barley that's malted and we can't have that. But rice malt is safe. richard
  22. Gluten absolutely does NOT pass into cow milk or into the meat of animals. This has been confirmed by veterinarians and grain researchers. This simply is not a concern. Every time anybody has ever checked on stickers, they have been gluten-free. The adhesive is not the type that would use wheat. richard
  23. I'm not going to argue at all with anybody who wants to worry about the first couple and last couple of paper towels on a roll (I don't because the glue simply doesn't come off on your hands). BUT, paper towels and paper plates are definitely not made with gluten. They are safe. Believe me, you have a lot more to worry about if you eat out much. And if you...
  24. I'm not sure I'm an expert. The signals from Conagra have been confused. There's no question that they at least list wheat, but different people have gotten different answers as to gluten. The last post I saw on this the company had said they do now list all gluten, but I'm not the one who called them and got that answer. In reality, rye is never hidden...
  25. No, no, no, no. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Paper towels and plates are fine. richard
