  1. Generally the ttg shows damage to the small bowel. However, you can have celiac with no or minimal damage. It's possible the biopsy will show damage even with the negative ttg, or it could show damage from something else. The biopsy is very simple and takes maybe 15-20 minutes. Your child won't remember a thing. richard

    ARCHIVED Bk Fries

BK fries do NOT have a coating with gluten (maybe they did 5 years ago but not now) and the oil is dedicated. But as with any restaurant you always take a chance of CC. richard

ARCHIVED Good Gi Doctor In Va?

Who were you seeing in the Blacksburg area? I work in Blacksburg and live in Roanoke. richard
  4. "What does steak, cheese, and/or tuna have to do with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance? I'm new to this forum and just recently finding out about Celiac and possibly tying it to my ailments. Are these foods related somehow?" Don't get paranoid. As somebody else said, some people have other intolerances, particularly dairy, but the fact is that most...
  5. I was so ill it was a hospital meal. I have no idea what it was. richard

  7. Did you ask how you got flour chips, since they don't carry them? Only their soft tortilla shells are made from flour. richard
  8. My wife has been taking Lexapro with no problems. It has helped her, but everybody's different. I want to re-emphasize what others have said -- you cannot just quit and you shouldn't try to set your own scehdule for quitting. Your doctor should be involved. richard
  9. My bottle in Virginia has the same ingredients as the other two just listed from the U.S. Since I went gluten-free four years ago Lea & Perrins in the U.S. has been considered gluten-free. I've also never heard of anybody with celiac having a gluten reaction to it. richard
  10. Stephen's is gluten-free. I wouldn't use one without checking, but hot chocolate/cocoa mixes in general seem to be pretty safe. richard
  11. The chips there are fine. richard
  12. One thing that would help is if you could tell us which blood tests she had and what the numbers were. Generally speaking, if you test positive for the antibodies, you've got it. richard
  13. A large number of blue or veined cheeses aren't even started on bread any more. They're started on an artificial medium. I once read as post from somebody who knew a cheesemaker. According to the cheesemaker, even if every molecule of the starting culture were gluten, it would be less than 1 part per million. I have not researched this myself, but am merely...
  14. Virtually no distilled vinegar is made from wheat. Even if it is, the distilling makes it gluten-free. richard
  15. Scotch tape in general is gluten-free, but you'd have to call the manhufacturer to be sure. What brand is it? richard
  16. What is your med? Somebody here might know. richard
  17. Honestly, I don't think anybody can 100 percent tell you one way or the other. Some think "gluten sensitivity" will almost always or always lead to celiac if you don't stop eating gluten, and others don't. I would advise the cautious approach. richard
  18. Raw meats in general are NOT suspect, unless there are other food problems to worry about. If a raw meat doesn't list obvious gluten, it's gluten-free. richard
  19. Here is what Olive Garden said earlier this year: Thank you for your inquiry regarding menu items for Gluten Intolerant guests. We can recommend the following items with some adjustments. Let your server know you are interested in menu items especially for Gluten Intolerance. Your server will be happy to accommodate your request. Salads Garden Salad...
  20. I haven't been able to find the non-malt ones in Virginia, but the other news here is the Hornsby. Over the years there have bveen rumors on various that at least one of the Hornsby ciders -- maybe all -- weren't gluten-free. This puts that to rest. richard
  21. Rice malt is made from rice. It should not have barley. richard
  22. Disneyworld. richard
  23. This one has been researched by more than one person. No U.S. manufacturer uses wheat glue (even if they DID just use the cheapest thing, that's not wheat). I don't think anybody's researched every foreign manufacturer, but this one is considered almost a celiac urban legend. A search of the St. John's list will turn up responses confirming this. While...
  24. I certainly can't say the chances are zero, but they are very, very slim. richard
  25. Almost all ice creams are like this now -- all you have to do is read the ingredients, and usually the only ones with gluten are the obvious ones, like Oreo. richard
