  1. I know some people don't like generalizations, but I've yet to find a marshmallow that isn't gluten-free. richard
  2. OK, to be more accurate, blue cheese is considered a safe food by all or nearly all celiac associations and would appear to not be a worry for all but a teeny tiny percentage of people with celiac. Even the most sensitive tests have not been able to detect gluten in blue cheese. If you haven't tried blue cheese since diagnosis, the odds are EXTREMELY high...
  3. "This is a fabulous article from the Canadian Celiac Society about blue cheese with the testing. Open Original Shared Link Thanks for the article. Bottom line: Canadian celiac society has listed blue cheese as safe for 20 years now. And the testing done for this piece using three highly sensitive tests found NO detectable gluten in 4 brands with a gluten...
  4. I went to HH a couple of years ago and found little there at that time. Maybe it's improved since then. Take what you can and feed her naturally gluten-free stuff like meat, fruit, seafood and so on. richard
  5. Essentially it sounds like BB is like most all other ice creams -- avoid the obvious stuff but otherwise gluten-free. richard
  6. Can you give some examples? I've never seen these. richard
  7. Never seen gluten in liquid smoke. Can't imagine why it might be a problem. richard
  8. Maybe other folks' experience will help you some but there's just no way to tell about your specific camp without talking to the folks who run it. 4-H camps aren't all the same. Personally, I would not be worried in the least about what's in the air. richard
  9. You absolutely do NOT have to worry about cheddar cheese (or pretty much any cheese for that matter). And as kareng has pointed out, you can safely ignore a 6-year-old thread. richard
  10. Reading about how it's used, it actually DOES sound yummy once it's cooked (although it smells and tastes bad in raw state). I want to try it now. richard
  11. Mike's is NOT distilled. The lite version has been tested to below 5 ppm. richard
  12. Well, DH is common enough that it's the only celiac symptom that gets its own separate topic area. And the forum constantly gets "is this DH?" type questions. richard
  13. I see no reason we can't have this unless wheat is added to the powdered version: "Typical asafoetida contains about 40-64% resin, 25% endogeneous gum, 10-17% volatile oil, and 1.5-10% ash." richard
  14. What you describe doesn't sound like DH at all to me. The other stuff COULD be related to celiac, but also to a whole host of other things. HOWEVER, your daughter should be tested. All your first-degree relatives, even ones without symptoms, should be tested, according to celiac experts. All of mine were, and my father was highly positive with only minor...
  15. Not something I would be concerned about. richard
  16. I'd take it with no hesitation. CC during the process of making the drug is unlikely because the HUGE majority of medications do not contain gluten. As for any ingredient being contaminated, that's a chance you take with any product you ingest. It's just the way it is. richard
  17. Spice mixes from abroad sold in the U.S. are still governed by the allergen law. Wheat MUST be listed. richard
  18. I'm betting the gluten reaction didn't happen until well after they had left the restaurant and had already paid. And while I expect restaurants to be careful, I never expect a free meal. Eating out is ALWAYS risky. I'm the one deciding to take the risk.
  19. It sounds like your mother has some addiction and psychological issues. There's probably little you can do other than help her see that she needs professional help. richard
  20. Read the ingredients. If still not sure, ask. richard
  21. I don't think I'm, going to add the defeathering of chickens to my list of gluten worries. And you do know that chickens are then washed and should be washed by the consumer as well? richard
  22. I think it's WAAAY too early for anybody to scare you with the "super sensitive" tag. Other suggestions on here sound much more likely. richard
  23. Animals that eat wheat are safe for us to consume. There's no question about this. richard
  24. Coffee is generally quite safe, although I don't like the flavored stuff so I haven't checked it lately. richard
  25. Just check your ingredients. Kraft products will clearly list any gluten. I don't think I've ever seen a pimento cheese spread that has gluten and rarely have I seen chicken salad with it. Same with egg salad and tuna salad. richard
