    ARCHIVED Pho

Addressing just the gluten angle, since I don't worry about soy or peanuts and can't say. Pho made the real way should be gluten-free. I've yet to find a fish sauce with wheat, although I'm not saying there isn't one. The beef base should be made at the restaurant, not out of a can (and the majority of broths are in fact gluten-free anyway). I rarely if...
  3. Always get it. I had the flu 25 years ago I hope never to have it again. richard
  4. Chex and Fruity Pebbles certainly have a chance of CC, but, yes, all of those are supposed to be gluten-free. richard
  5. Dinner leftovers are my favorite. Homemade soups or chili during the winter. Corn tortilla pizzas. richard
  6. As for regular beers that are lower gluten (if that's what you end wanting because you don't have celiac), I don't think most of us know what they are. But definitely stay away from any beer that uses wheat. richard
  7. Ditto what others said. If you've been gluten-free for a year and vitamin levels are normal, you should have nothing to be aware of other than the usual things non-celiacs watch for. richard
  8. As Shauna said, most of it is gluten-free anyway, but definitely ask. Ten years ago my dentist had to avoid using mint pumice, but even that has changed now. richard
  9. I wouldn't be even slightly concerned about this. richard
  10. Three weeks is certainly not enough time for anything close to complete healing. And even after healing, keep this in mind -- going gluten-free doesn't magically take care of all of life's ailments. People who don't have celiac also have bowel fluctuations and problems. richard
  11. Red meat, green tea and herbs alone? I don't think so. richard
  12. Very possibly nothing to do with celiac. "Normal" people get gas all the time. richard
  13. I agree. Go ahead and name the brand and maybe save some others the same fate. It's not like you'd be libeling them or anything. richard
  14. Good golly, folks, do NOT bring back 6-year-old threads. Start a new one. Citric acid and maltodextrin have been considered safe for years now. richard
  15. It's very hard to tell by pictures alone, but my DH did not look like that. richard
  16. I have or have had both and what you describe sounds exactly like psoriasis and nothing like DH to me. richard
  17. I took dapsone for more than 20 years, mostly 25-50 mg a day. My father took it for 30. Our doctor did not know about celiac But he DID urge us to quit eating wheat, which we didn't want to do. Dapsone can have side effects but if you look the really serious ones are rare and pretty much reverse when you stop taking it or cut back. I have never heard of...
  18. There are really great and yummy cornbread recipes that don't use wheat flour, but I seriously doubt subbing non-wheat flour is going to taste EXACTLY like your grandmother's. Wheat flour tastes like wheat flour. gluten-free flour doesn't. richard
  19. If you're super sensitive, I'm sure the Codex products will NOT work for you at all. richard
  20. Everything in your drink would seem to be gluten-free. richard
  21. I make gluten-free Chex mix every year at Christmas. I admit to missing the taste and texture contrast of t wheat Chex, but the mix is still tasty. And there are so many variations. richard
  22. Well, I was lying in a hospital bed nearly unable to stand on my own because of what turned out to be undiagnosed celiac but which the doctors thought was non-Hodgkins lymphoma, so I was delighted by the news. He came in and told me directly. It was a total relief to find out what was killing me.
  23. Sushis rice is most definitely NOT universally unsafe. Most that I've found has in fact been OK. richard
  24. I'm not saying whether or not the original poster should go because I don't know enough about the individuals involved, but in response to some other comments -- there are some jobs out there where the reality is that a spouse can help make or break a career or tip the scales for a promotion. For instance, if a boss thinks that an employee being considered...
  25. Yep, you should call, although this is a category where almost everything -- if not everything -- is gluten-free. richard
