ARCHIVED Gum- Gluten Free?
lovegrov replied to bny06's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The natural flavors would have to declare wheat. And barley is ALMOST always listed as malt. richard -
ARCHIVED Can An Infant Have Gluten Problems?
lovegrov replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At 6 weeks it's highly unlikely to be a gluten thing. richard -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dermatitis Herpetiformis To You?
lovegrov replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I know DH can look somewhat different in different people, but that looks nothing like mine did. I don't have photos, though. richard -
ARCHIVED Weird Reaction - Nut Allergy Or Gluten Reaction?
lovegrov replied to UKGail's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Very highly unlikely to have anything to do with gluten. richard -
ARCHIVED Spouse Is Nonsupportive
lovegrov replied to heyteacher's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The sores in your mouth can definitely be related. I had them all the time and they disappeared after I went gluten-free. As someone else said, it doesn't have to be expensive as long as you don't try to replace bread, cakes, muffins, etc. Just make regular food that's naturally gluten-free. richard -
ARCHIVED Whiskey, Vodka, Gin?
lovegrov replied to organicmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Smirnoff is made from corn, or it was in the past. Haven't checked in a long time. richard -
ARCHIVED There Needs To Be A "success Story" Forum Category
lovegrov replied to Twizzel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Twizzel, I have to agree with others that frequently the folks who hang out longer are the ones who continue to have issues or struggle, so you might read more negative posts. I think this board has had more than it share of folks struggling recently and so might seem a little on the darker side lately. On the positive side, I was dying exactly 10 years... -
ARCHIVED Malt Flavoring And Caramel Color
lovegrov replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't care for them, either. richard -
ARCHIVED Penzeys Spices - Yes Or No?
lovegrov replied to BabsV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If a place tells you that everything they make is gluten-free, that's about as good as it gets. richard -
Sorry if I misunderstood. richard

ARCHIVED Why Even Have A Gluten-Free Menu?!
lovegrov replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't mean to be cruel or unsympathetic, but the time to ask about the fryer is BEFORE you eat anything. This is one of the areas most restaurant people will not even think about, so it is up to you. In addition, it appears that the menu even says the fryer is shared. Applebees is most definitely not one of the places I would eat. ricahrd -
Despite occasional bouts of gas, I think I can survive without the charcoal underwear liners. richard

If you haven't noticed issues then why would you worry about it? Everybody is different in th way they heal and almost nothing applies to everybody -- except not eating gluten. I wouldn't try to make a problem where there doesn't seem to be one. richard

I remember a woman on another list years who who was absolutely convinced she picked up CC every time she went out somewhere and handled anything. Most folks on the list were skeptical but still sympathetic because she wiped and washed and STILL got CC. After nearly becoming a hermit she discovered she actually had a completely different thing going on that...

ARCHIVED Could Someone Tell Me If This Marinara Sauce Has Gluten?
lovegrov replied to lolololo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have found this not to be true at all, at least in the U.S. I can name only one or two brand-name deli meats that have gluten, and it's not as a "filler." And even those are just one meat out of the whole line. I can't name a single hot dog that has gluten and almost no sausages. Wheat as a filler in meats is pretty much one of those celiac urban legends... -
ARCHIVED I Have Gone gluten-free W/my 15 Yr Old And I Feel Terrible!
lovegrov replied to maitrimama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that all first-degree family members should be tested, but I don't agree that feeling bad is necessarily a sign that you have a problem with gluten. richard -
ARCHIVED Considering Putting Baby On Gluten-Free Diet - Am I Paranoid?
lovegrov replied to Ollie's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You absolutely should do with your son what you think best. But let's not forget that kids don't always have perfect looking, perfect smelling BMs. They're kids. And they get stomach bugs and they eat food that disagrees for reasons other than gluten. Neither one of my kids has celiac that we can tell, but they went through periods of not so normal. richard -
ARCHIVED Possible Cc?
lovegrov replied to jswog's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A few years ago BWW told me that naked wings were cooked in dedicated fryers but now it appears that isn't necessarily true. The last time we went to our local one the manager took over my order and specifically cooked it in a clean fryer. Lisa is right, for a while you need to avoid eating out AND stay away from processed food as much as possible. After... -
ARCHIVED Which Type Of Doctor Should I Go To?
lovegrov replied to maitrimama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
A dermatologist diagnosed mine just by looking. I had the classic weeping blisters. richard -
FWIW, I wasn't trying to get anyone to keep super sensitive discussions ONLY in the super sensitive section or anything of the sort. That isn't a rule and I wouldn't want it to be a rule. However, with all the threads and comments about super sensitivity and guesses about refractory sprue and speculation on seizures and corn and itsy bitsy tiny specks of...

ARCHIVED Can Gluten Contamination Cause Seizures
lovegrov replied to Tig's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Three in one small community? Wow. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and have never personally met anybody who has seizures from wheat, at least nobody that's told me they do. I've heard of a few online and had a friend who told me about somebody he met. richard -
ARCHIVED Can Gluten Contamination Cause Seizures
lovegrov replied to Tig's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gluten allergy or celiac, which is an autoimmune disease? The two can cause different problems (although I think seizures, while possible, are rare with either one). richard -
Why does it seem that so many threads these days have somebody who is incredibly terribly super sensitive commenting on how they can't eat somewhere or something any more? Even when that isn't the topic and it's a place or a product that most celiacs seem to be able to enjoy safely? Is the idea to scare people away from these places or products? Just strikes...
