  1. Swelling of airways and numerous large welts is not DH or celiac. That sounds like an allergic reaction. richard
  2. The only thing I've heard of working other than Dapsone is some sort of sulfur drug. richard
  3. Let me emphasize again -- at Hardee's the fryers are NOT dedicated. This means there absolutely IS cross contamination. Maybe Carl's is different, but you must ask. richard
  4. Thing is, Shauna, everything you describe also can happen to people as they age. Lots of folks WITHOUT celiac have this stuff. richard
  5. I've never heard of a cottage cheese that isn't gluten-free. Did you ask what the ingredient is? richard
  6. Virtually no deli meats that I know of have gluten. richard
  7. In the U.S., I don't know of any artificial flavor or color that has gluten. richard
  8. Of course, boomstick, you can believe whatever you want, but in the celiac community Kraft is considered one of the best companies out there. And there's absolutely no way in heck they'd make their modified food starch from wheat, which is actually more expensive than other alternatives, and then hide it, violating U.S. law. IMO, you're wrong. richard
  9. Several flavors of Doritos are indeed gluten-free, although it's possible that cross contamination could be a problem, but the originals are not. So, you can eat Doritos if you want to give it a shot. I eat the Cool Ranch occasionally. richard
  10. In 9 years I've never seen a corned beef with gluten. richard
  11. More than 9 years on the diet. For years I had mouth sores, terrible gas, some diarrhea, occasional anemia, DH and various other symptoms. Then, during a bout of terrible anemia, I went downhill horribly. Liver functions out of whack, daily fevers up to 105 (that went on for weeks), everything I ate tasted like metal, inability to think or carry on a conversation...
  12. Very few meds actually have gluten but, as others have said, the pharmacist should know. richard
  13. I don't think either one is either better or worse than the other simply because you have celiac. In addition, while I don't care for flavored coffees, they are pretty much safe as far as gluten. richard
  14. Particularly if you are just starting, you should try to pack stuff or yourself. If you are driving yourself you an carry a cooler. richard
  15. If your husband has been drinking heavily he most certainly should not just quit cold without the help of something like Ativan, either at home or in a detox facility. This would require a prescription. Detoxing without chemical help can lead to convulsions or seizures. At best, it's just downright unpleasant. As for a sleep aid, one problem is that if...
  16. Lesson is, you have to read ingredients, always. I seriously doubt there was UNDECLARED fake crab. That would violate numerous food laws and the taste difference would be obvious, I would think. richard.
  17. They are. Kraft will clearly list any gluten so just rad the ingredients, and I don't think any of their cold cuts have gluten. richard
  18. Lisa is right, you can't just sprinkle flour on things and not list it. richard
  19. Don't forget that EVERYBODY needs some iodine in their diet. It's essential. richard
  20. I eat it. richard
  21. It's not even as restrictive as "ordering" gluten-free ahead, although there are may places where you DO want to get a reservation. At that time, mention the gluten thing. We were there several years ago so I don't remember all the places we ate, but they included Liberty Tree Tavern, Hollywood and Vine, Whispering Canyon Cafe and other places that no...
  22. All I can tell you is that the VAST majority of people with celiac have no reaction whatsoever handling gluten. I'm not doubting what you'e saying, but reacting to merely touching (or breathing) gluten is most definitely not common. richard
  23. Elbows and buttocks are NOT unusual places for DH. Very common. Corner of the mouth might be more like a cold or canker sore, which is also common with celiac. I had those for years and years -- until I went gluten-free. Richard
  24. The time stamp on the top two posts show they were 25 minutes apart. That's what I was commenting on. richard
