  1. It's hard for me to remember what my digestion and eating was like when I was younger. However I have always been the kind of person who felt their stress in their stomach. As a child I remember being very gassy and having diarrhea when I was nervous etc. When I was in 10th grade I got Giardia and Entamoeba histolytica. Every since then I went through...
  2. Hi and welcome. I knew for many years that wheat did not agree with me, my symptoms were your symtoms, gas, bloating and constipation and so for the most part I did avoid wheat BUT for special occasions I would still eat it knowing that for a day or two I would feel bad. One day that changed and now the slightest bit of gluten causes me agony. ...
  3. That's a funny expression, "it's all in your head", with mercury filling it is all in our heads. Truthfully Mr.Moore you have me thinking I should be paying more attention to the fillings I still have in my mouth. Seriously. My fillings are pretty old and shouldn't be leeching anything anymore but a couple of years ago one broke and I am sure I...
  4. I asked about how you know you don't have celiac because the endoscopy is not always unreliable. I know there are people on this board who were told that they didn't have celiac and it was only later when the damage was worse were they diagnosed with celiac. Not that I want you to have celiac. It's also quite possible that you have gluten intolerance...
  5. So sad. It is important to pay attention when a child has a negative reaction to a vaccine. They may be fine but sometimes the next child reacts much more strongly. I worked with a family that had this happen.
  6. I am sorry that you are feeling so sad and alone. I know that it is difficult to be ill and without a diagnosis, I spent a too long in that place myself. You say that you don't have Celiac, can you tell me how you know that? What tests were done? Have you been on antibiotics for any extended period? I ask because they can mess up the good bacteria...
  7. I really hope that simply gluten free works for you.
  8. That's interesting, I could never eat oatmeal, it made me gag. I always thought it was because of the lumps, hate lumps.
  9. No, in order for the test to show damage she must continue to damage herself. This is a difficult choice for an adult to make and I am sure an even more difficult one for a parent. Some doctors will consider a positive change in health as a result of a gluten free diet as clear evidence of Celiac and diagnose it as such. While there may be good reasons...
  10. Excellent questions. Everyone is different, some questions we can ask and ask but I think the really important question is how to get well? Second question, many of us here have had to figure it our on our own, I think that indicates above average intelligence and a determination to be well. I do not think Doctors are educated as to what wellness...
  11. A quote from the above web site from Elaine's daughter.
  12. Hi and welcome. What a day. My heart goes out to you, it must be so hard to have a child ill. The good news is that you have a diagnosis. I'm sorry I can't be so helpful, I am not a Mom, nor do I know much about a Crohn's and Celiac connection. You might want to check out this site: Open Original Shared Link
  13. Messenger Beer is very good. Hi and welcome.
  14. I am glad that you have had a positive experience with your gastro. As to some, perhaps me , promoting a certain diet, I honestly don't see it any differently than you promoting your gastro. That too is based on your personal experience, there are many of us who have had negative experiences, years of misdiagnosis and other illnesses as a result...
  15. I totally agree with this. I don't want to be confrontational either. But, given how little gastros know about diet it doesn't surprise me in the least that one would say this. :o I would never suggest what someone else should or shouldn't eat, but after two and some years following a very strict gluten and dairy free diet and seeing...
  16. You are very welcome. I learned through being here that just knowing there were people going through what I was going through, being sick and alone and afraid, made an enormous difference. I found that just knowing others wished me well made me feel better and that wishing others well made me feel better too.
  17. I so agree. What blows me away is how good real food tastes and how awful that other stuff is, even before being ill I cared about what I ate.
  18. Thanks Laura, an informative article.
  19. That would be my thinking also although I am sure the temperature of the Crockpot makes a difference. I have a Rival Crockpot and I turn it on high until it starts to boil and then to low for a long simmer and at simmer it bubbles away.
  20. We all slip, don't be hard on yourself and just get back to the diet.
  21. And I was just wondering if it could be bed bugs.
  22. "Leaky Gut Causes Gluten Intolerance?" Yup, it's a vicious cycle! Which is why Elaine Gottschall called her book, "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". After two plus years on a strict gluten and dairy free diet and seeing only minimal improvements I began the SCD and am now seeing improvements. What has just blown me away is that this diet was the...
  23. Hi. Here is a link: Open Original Shared Link I can't speak to how great a site it is but if you google elimination diets lots will come up. The simplest thing to do is stick with unprocessed foods, basically meat, fish, vegetables, nuts and a little fruit. If you are not already keeping a food journal that is also helpful in seeing what...
  24. Your story is not too long. I think you may have even left a few things out. Congratulations on figuring out you feel better gluten free and seeing improvements! I have no experience with diabetes but know that diet can make a huge difference and you are proof of that. All symptoms that may be related to Celiac. There are a number...
  25. It took me two years to admit that I couldn't handle any grains, rice included, but now I kick myself because the SCD is so much better for me and I hadn't wanted to try it because it meant giving up grains. I guess I am kind of slow. I agree with Ali, lots of good information there!
