  1. For thirty years my blood pressure was completely normal, this winter when I was ill my blood pressure dropped to low. The nurse didn't seem concerned about it but for me it was a real sign that something was/is going on. I have been thinking it is related to the Celiac.
  2. Robbin, this is wonderful news. Cecile, you and your family are in my prayers. Andrea, I hope you will take the time you need to but not stay away too much or for too long. And hello to everyone.
  3. I don't know whether they will be using a contrast during the scan but I would be concerned about that. The contrast used for CT scans is iodine and up to 2% of the population have real problems with it.

    ARCHIVED Boils?

In my thirties I tended to get boils. I found that taking garlic oil capsules (lots) at the first sign of any swelling that was going to become a boil stopped it, the swelling receded. I don't know if there is any relationship to Celiac.
  5. Robbin and Tavi, so sorry you are feeling bad. I drink club soda, it makes me burp, and burping helps me feel better. Ginger tea, fresh ginger sliced thin and simmered for 5 or 10 minutes also helps. I thought I read Vitamin C helped too but I haven't tried that.
  6. No I never did. I didn't work very long as a social worker, I couldn't support the actions I saw being taken. I hope that you get a good worker and there are good social workers because that will make a difference. In any case I would say it is important to be as calm as you can be, don't give in to anger or emotion but at the same time you have to make...
  7. I worked as a social worker, at least I did until my supervisor told me to tell a woman that she could get a lawyer, we were apprehending her son, but it wouldn't make any difference. I supported taking him into care but not the power trip and too often that is what happens. If parents want control of the process they can be seen as being very difficult...
  8. My niece has Prader-Willi and so around six months of age she started to eat, prior to that she wasn't and Child and Family Services thought my sister was neglecting her. They never removed her. I am wondering about your immediate community, you said your neighbours were shocked at the children being taken. Friends, co-workers, school teachers,....would...
  9. Andrea, I'm glad to know they are all fine. And Julie, I'll go for "gimme some sugar" as long as sugar in Rachelville is loaded with nutrients.
  10. Yes, why not mention it? I completely agree with you that there is this tendency to think of anorexia as purely a mental illness but I don't think that is true. There was a great thread a little while back about the relationship between gluten and mental/emotional problems, sorry I don't remember what it was called right now.
  11. Thank you for your kind words. I think I may have said this before, I always wanted to be a writer, when I was a child the worlds writers created gave me a place to escape to. I've just never known what it is that I wanted to say or who I wanted to say it to. What I find here in Rachelville is a place that calls forth my voice and my imagination. I have...
  12. Welcome Trish, I'm from Manitoba. Ursula says green tea has Vitamin K in it. I bruise easily too.
  13. It does seem to be a replacement for the **** word but I think it is much more than that. It resonates with: the desperation we all feel when we are in pain and we need to sleep and we will try anything, sure I'll curl up with frozen spinach; the shock of something wet and slimy and we DON'T know what it is; the laughter that arises from somewhere between...
  14. Cecile, you are in my prayers. Thanks to Karen and Lynne I will never look at an Altoid the same way again. Penguin, sorry about the wait, I'm not patient when it comes to being a patient either. Once when I was relocating my doctor told me that she thought I would have a hard time finding a doctor. When I asked her why, she said, "well, you...
  15. I totally agree, whether it is organic or not sugar is very hard on my body. I feel it immediately in the arthritis in my hand with stiffness, swelling and pain and I know it is doing more damage than that. I tried the gluten free treats once and felt horrible afterwards, I won't do it again. I've taken to baking, which I did before anyways, and enjoy...
  16. Welcome Natalie. Yes, gluten is everywhere, shampoo, toothpaste, laundry soap, dish soap...plus all the foods it is in.....and drywall!!! Lots of great support here, I'm just learning myself and have found this place very helpful.
  17. I hear you. In the midst of my celiac crisis, (melting-lost 30 pounds), I discovered a lump in my breast also, but I am older than you and menopausal. I did have it checked out and it is not cancerous. I have the impression that fibroids may be common to Celiacs but I am new to this so don't know so much. Hopefully someone more informed will arrive....
  18. I agree with the many good points above about trusting yourself. My bloodwork was negative and I will have an endoscopy at the end of September but I am not eating gluten so I was not surprised by the bloodwork and I do not expect that the endoscopy will show damage. I will proceed with it and other tests not to prove I am a Celiac but to elimate other...
  19. Love all these southern expressions. Here is one of my grandmother's, said whenever young people had children before marriage, "first you build the nest, they you lay the eggs'. She was Ukrainian. Christine, glad to hear from you. I've been wondering how you are doing. That is great that you are seeing a counsellor, but $100 a session, yikes...
  20. I've heard that sometimes once the villi are healed it is possible for those who have had a problem to tolerate dairy again .
  21. I love it. Evie, I don't ever plan on getting bored either. I've always got some sort of project on the go. Right now I am painting all all floors to look like fake interesting wood. I had to wait till inspiration struck at Home Depot when I saw two gallons of mistints. One was orange and the other fuscia and my husband thought I was crazy but he...
  22. I would say it is unbelieveable except that my sister had a similar situation. This is truly terrible. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. It sounds to me like you would benefit from an advocate, are you connected to a local Celiac Support group? There are so many great people on this forum, hopefully someone will be able to help you more...
  23. Vincent, that is wonderful news about Megan. And thank you for the link.
  24. Susan, I didn't know that about Lara Bars but now you've made me curious. I'm actually trying to come up with something that I can market at a folk festival I'll be attending. These days getting wild for me is half a cup of coffee. Andrea, at least your children are watching wholesome entertainment. I find much of what is available for children...
  25. MSG makes me sick too.
