  1. Thanks for the question, I have some cans of chilpotles in adobe sauce I have been wondering about. I suspect flour in the sauce but would like to know for sure.
  2. Irish, Scottish, Ukrainian. My Irish grandfather died at 65 of stomach cancer.
  3. Thanks for the information Chelsea, I'll look for them. Susan, wow, what an absolutely gorgeous man. Lucky you. And Chelsea too! Lynne, that would be great, thank you. Andrea, sorry to hear about your "biting" morning. I hope everyone is fine now. I am so glad to hear that baby Megan continues to improve. Thanks...
  4. Hi Andrea, yes I am feeling a little better today. I find that when I wake up the first thing I do now is scan my body to assess the level of pain I am waking into and whether or not it is greater or lesser than the day before. I feel like I am becoming an expert on pain, just as the Inuit have many names for snow I could coin another ten ways to name...
  5. I have a memory of someone telling me that the aboriginal people here knew that if there was a poisonous plant there was also a plant that grew nearby that would counter-act the poison. I think that there are many natural remedies that we are surrounded by but have lost the knowledge of the ways in which they heal, garlic being one of them. Love these...
  6. Good Morning and what a beautiful day. Cecile, I don't have this. I do bruise very easily though, in fact had a bruise on may arm just from sleeping with my head on it. I used to get boils but found that if I ate a lot of garlic, garlic oil capsules, it would stop them, they would recede and not come to a head. Garlic is supposed to be a...
  7. Sounds like quite the party, glad to find such hilarity in Rachelville. I fell asleep early and am now awake feeling a little better than I have been. Thanks for the well wishes. Rachel, congratulations on the weight gain, that is wonderful news.
  8. Lurking along, not feeling so well. I still don't understand the Altoids, . Karen, that monkey message was outrageous. And Cecile, googly moogly, a little blush, a little shadow does wonders. Carla, perhaps we can work together on an event, I'm the Community Events person. The FIRST ANNUAL RACHELVILLE _________________. ...
  9. I am new to all of this myself and have only been gluten free for three months. I would guess, from someone very inexperienced, that given your symptoms there is a very good chance that it is Celiac or Gluten Intolerance. I have read that diet is a valid diagnositic tool, have you ever gone gluten free? I confused a lot of my pain with the results...
  10. Patti, yes it is great to have sisters, I feel very fortunate to have them. Andrea, what an adorable picture of your children, the littlest one looks like he might be a little mischievious. Cissie, I hope you are feeling better. Thank you for the compliments, it's nice to be seen. Oh and I don't get the Altoids thing either, does...
  11. I confess I picked a glamour shot. Press F5 to see for yourself. Donna, that is too funny. Once two of my sisters and I showed up wearing the same shoes. Cissie, my baby sister is thirteen years younger than me and is the one who is diagnosed with Celiac. I adored her, it was my sister who is five years younger than me that I fought with...
  12. I think it is old bread boards that are the issue because you can't get the gluten out of them. New bread boards are O.K., I read an article years ago talking about plastic versus wood, the plastic manufacturerers investigated the bacterial safety of wood and discovered that wood has a property which naturally sanitizes bacteria. (It would explain centuries...
  13. This thread is making me want to smoke. ... ... There is something wonderful about smoking with others, has anyone else noticed the way people will inhale at the same time? I think it is a pity that we have taken what was once a ceremony and turned it into a "bad habit". I think the First Nations people had it right. Smoking really should be...
  14. Cissie, I would have gladly given you my three brothers. When I was 5, my brothers were 4, 3, and 2 years old, and I was deemed 'responsible' for them. We did have fun together sometimes but more often we had battles. I recall my mother telling me once, probably having caught us fighting, that someday my brothers would be bigger than me, I tended...
  15. Robbin, how sweet of you to say so and yes we must have a bookstore in Rachelville and I volunteer to work there, I love books. Me too. Susan, that is beautifully written. I hope you have had some relief from the meltdown. Donna, thank you for that post about "Inflammation Syndrome", I think I will buy it as arthritic...
  16. Another country drive day for me, yesterday we travelled to see country friends and now today I off on my own. I expect to have pages to read, once again, when I return. I hope everyone has a grand day. The sun is shining, the temperature is perfect (for everyone ) and ice cream is the health food of choice here in Rachelville.
  17. Several years ago in my efforts to be wheat free I tried spelt and initially it seemed o.k. but within a couple of days of eating it I knew it was, although perhaps not as bad as wheat, definitely in the same family as far as causing me digestion problems. This was before I knew about the Celiac and was just trying to avoid wheat. I won't be trying spelt...
  18. Cissie, I loved this, it brought my childhood back to me. As children my brothers and I knew intuitively that it was best not to tell our mother about the swamp and the raft we had made, nor about the tree house we climbed up into nor .... and I don't really ever even remember her asking. Our childhood was private.

    ARCHIVED Newbie

Welcome Babbs. I am new too but as far as I understand there are only "advantages" to staying gluten free, consuming any gluten at all will cause damage. After being gluten free for nearly three weeks I had one drink of scotch because I had read that alcohol, with the distillation process was gluten free, wrong. I woke up the next day and felt...
  20. I've had this too but don't have a clue what it means, I mentioned it to the Gastro but he didn't seem too concerned about it. Thanks for asking the question.
  21. Thank you Rachel and I just wanted to add, Susan, Rachelville would not be the same without you, you are our very own Dingo Girl.
  22. Glad to make you giggle, nice to meet you Tavi, and I think town bum is a brilliant job. Does this mean that all the park benches in Rachelville will be cushioned? Thanks Robbin, here's another one for those who don't know about ginger tea. Simmer fresh ginger in water for five to ten minutes, strain and drink. Proportions will depend on how strong...
  23. Hello everyone. Karen, I'm so sorry to hear of all you are going through. I hope that you will find some answers and solutions soon, it must be terribly hard on you to suffer that way. Cissie, I hope your migraine was brief, not that they generally are, I've had them and I know how truly awful they are. Christine, I wonder how you are doing...
  24. Hi and welcome. This is a wonderful forum with lots of great resources, the people being the greatest resource. It sounds to me like you have an answer in the combination of a genetic connection and a positive dietary response. Congratulations on figuring it out so quickly, I hope your health continues to improve.
  25. I have been going for acupuncture twice a week since the end of January and I do feel it is helping. I started going because I was experiencing extreme inflammation and sharp pains throughout my GI tract. I had seen a doctor who prescribed medication I didn't trust and at the time did not know about the Celiac. It wasn't until May when I saw a Gastro that...
