ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
rinne replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wonderful news. My prayers are with you all. -
Joint pain is very common but what are you referring to as spotting? Oh, and there are no dumb questions.

The last time and only time I have eaten out since going gluten free I went to my absolutely favourite restaurant which I have every reason to trust, they know me there and they have catered an eight course gluten free wedding for 200 people. I chose to go on a day when I wasn't feeling great because I didn't want to know I couldn't eat there anymore. ...

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Evie, the blood type diet I have been following recommends specific food according to your blood type. Dr.Peter J. D'Adamo has written a number of books about living right for your blood type. It is a very simple diet, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits, nuts, no processed foods, no sugar.... I avoid nightshades for my blood type but haven't looked at the... -

I'm "lurking' along with all of you though not so talkative today, not a great day but at least I haven't been spinached. Andrea, welcome back, as you will have read we were readying a posse to find you until our Rachelville sleuth tracked you down. Cecile, our woman of comedy and mystery. Christine, I have been thinking about you and I am so... -

ARCHIVED Newbie And Need Some Food Suggestions
rinne replied to CanadianGal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Canadian Gal, I'm from Winnipeg, what part of the country are you from? Welcome to the forum, it is a great place with wonderful people who are very supportive. I am new to all of this too and the gluten free learning curve is a steep one. I have been very ill and find that I do best on simple foods which makes it easier - minimal labels to read... -

Robbin, my heart goes out to you. This is not whining, this is a place to share these feelings. -

Charlie, I am also one of the people who stopped taking any supplements as a result of reading this thread and the information Rachel posted about MSG. I have felt better for not taking them, the sensation I had was a burning running in a diagonal from right to left across my abdomen, similar to being glutened. The supplements were all gluten free, dairy... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Here's what I understood from the link, a young woman with lupus was trying to explain to a friend of her's what it was like to be chronically ill, they were sitting in a restaurant and she gathered together a number of spoons and used them to illustrate how much energy she had and how each task took a "spoon" to complete. This then became the "spoon theory... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes, a political pundit did coin the phrase and it was meant as an insult but some of us up here find it hilarious, I'm one of them. I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada which is above North Dakota. I would like to know what you are finding out about the connections between Celiac, mind and emotions. Cecile, I am so glad that you have... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
rinne replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Emily, I so completely agree with you. I'm in Winnipeg and finally saw a gastro on May 6, the blood work was done right away, they did a CT scan on July 19th and the endoscopy and colonoscopy are scheduled for September 28. That is nearly five months! These are acceptable wait times when someone has melted (lost 30 pounds) and is suffering extreme pain... -
ARCHIVED New Attitude Problem For Me
rinne replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sarah, I'm glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way. I wonder if a lot of people are in a gluten fog, a kind of drugged state from which clear thinking is difficult, I think I was. In my experience it was the pain that woke me up, perhaps others also need to get to the point where you cannot ignore it anymore. Maybe that is when they... -

Ravenwoodglass, thank you for sharing that. How wonderful to come to a place where forgiveness and compassion are present not just for others but for ourselves. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel, you are brilliant and one relevation leads to another. I just went and looked at "Arthritis, Fight it with the Blood Type Diet" by Dr. Peter j.D'Adamo and saw for the first time that he recommends avoiding wheat for ALL blood types. I was attracted to this diet because of his recommending O types avoid wheat but I hadn't looked before at the... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Awareness Organization?
rinne replied to Aerin328's topic in Publications & Publicity
There are groups, here in Canada there are Federal and Provincial organizations that do public awareness and offer support. Have you tried googling your area? There is a great thread on this forum, something like, "I want to be the first Celiac to..." and they are talking about public awareness. I think you may find that just being diagnosed with Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ryan, the question I have is does this company make anything that is gluten free? Is this a marketing strategy that may lead to confusion for Celiacs, for example if I saw "proud sponsor to the Celiac Foundation" I would probably assume it was gluten free unless I read the back and if I had already made the connection with Celiac on the front of the box... -
ARCHIVED Really Gluten Free?
rinne replied to KristiAnne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As to minor quantities of gluten I feel I am very sensitive, I put approximately 1/16 to 1/8 th of a teaspoon of a homeopathic remedy under my tongue and within five minutes knew that the alcohol base it was in had gluten in it, I checked the web site and it was a grain based alcohol. I have seen a web site that said Scotch was O.K. to drink and I had... -
ARCHIVED Really Gluten Free?
rinne replied to KristiAnne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, perhaps I missed why you decided to go gluten free, were you ill? I know how horribly frustrating it is to be hungry and to be afraid to eat because everything hurts. Does this apply to you? One of the first things I realized I was going to have to give up after gluten was coffee. It causes a burning sensation and as much as I love the... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
rinne replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
What's Morphin? I was told a three years ago that I had arthritis in my hand and knee, they took x-rays of my knee and asked if I wanted medication. I said no. Now I am going DUH and smacking myself upside the head I guess I just wasn't in enough pain to stop and think about whether there were things I could do differently. There is a story... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Trouble With gluten-free Breads?
rinne replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I generally avoid the gluten free breads and treats, they do not agree with me and although the effect is not as bad as being glutened it's bad enough. It is only once a month or so that I have some gluten free toast and I haven't found a rice bread that I really like anyways. Home made treats are definitely superior, they taste better and I feel better... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...

Andrew, I'm curious about how you were diagnosed, if you would like to share your story I would be interested. Did it have anything to do with your decision to enter medical school?
