Does that mean us?

When referring to a new super strain of flu. I've always wondered are they talking to me? Sadly I get sick all the time mostly from a train carriage full of people :(

Should I get the flu vaccine? It's free in Australia.

If you get the flu vaccine make sure you know what is in it.  I saw on the website of the Center for Disease Control Open Original Shared Link Thimerosal (mercury) is in it..  They also list fermeldahyde as a possible ingredient in vaccines.    They have a list of each specific vaccine and its contents.

I don't get vaccines  I read the label and consider whether this is for my best health or not.  Just as I would anything I put into my mouth...  I take my health seriously and do follow a careful diet, garden, and exercise.

. You can find literature with each vaccination box.  You Physician should be able to give the list to you as you consider what is in the vaccine.  You may find some surprises if you look carefully into what each ingredient is.

I found evidence .on the center for Disease Control that abortion materials are  in some vaccines.  I copied the ingredients for Adenovirus. PSAWYER just pointed out that this is not the flu.It is an example of the ingredients in one vaccine:  The adenovirus vaccine.

sucrose, D-mannose, D-fructose, dextrose, potassium phosphate, plasdone C, anhydrous lactose, micro crystalline cellulose, polacrilin potassium, magnesium stearate, cellulose acetate phthalate, alcohol, acetone, castor oil, FD&C Yellow #6 aluminum lake dye, human serum albumin, fetal bovine serum, sodium bicarbonate, human-diploid fibroblast cell cultures (WI-38), Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium

To clarify it is the human-dipoid  cell cultures which I believe are from an aborted fetus.  I have discussed this with a few medical doctors and they did not deny it.

Incase you need a to find out what a human diploid cell is I went here to find out about it.Open Original Shared Link  I believe these cells are also called stem cells.

I am sorry that I did not fully support this at first.  My wording, I thought, was stronger than it should have been.  I would not have picked this fight here on the forum, but forgot that it was not common knowledge.  I hope that you will forgive this.  I also hope that I have fully supported my position with credible sources.

I previously said that there is human ingredients in the vaccine, but I meant some vaccines and now have revised it to be more correct.   I am sorry it was necessary to make this change but my edits have been intended to make the information that I shared more accurate.  I cannot share which vaccines are flu, because I do not know.  I did, however, refer to the CDC for all to check the ingredients.

I am perfectly willing to rewrite this with just the link to read the lists of ingredients and a caution to do so if that will be acceptable.  I hesitate to do it now, because some have replied to it and I cannot change those.

Can you post a link for this, please?

If you are continueing to get glutened, which is the impression I got from another of your posts, your body is going to be so busy fighting the gluten that it won't be able to fight off other stuff.  I have worked in schools and with the public for years and I used to catch everything that was going around pre gluten free but very rarely get ill now. That may off course not be the case for you.

Do what you can to prevent picking up these 'bugs'. Wash your hands a lot and keep them away from your face as much as you can. Hopefully your body will be better able to fight off communicable illnesses once it has healed from gluten.

As far as getting a flu shot talk to your doctor about any concerns you have and then make a decision on whether or not to get one.

Yeah I am battling never getting Gluten-Free for more than 4 days at the moment so yeah my body is busy battling gluten. I think it's probably wise I get it!

I won't get into an argument here on the intelligence of mercury in vaccines, but with one exception it is only in multidose vials as a preservative and can be easily avoided by simply requesting a prefilled syringe injection. As for other preservatives, anyone can contact doctors and pharmacies in their area and see which brand is available and if it is prefilled or not and then go look up the ingredients.

Only one company uses mammalian cells to make their flu shots, and they use animal cells. Still, it is quite frankly a huge leap forward to have the shot available to people with egg allergies. I did also see that there is a new insect based one that was approved just this year.

The shots are safe for us and soon should be more readily available for people with egg allergies also. This is good news. Many of us have been sick for a long time and are frankly sick of being sick. If a simple shot can save me from the flu, I'll do it.

It sounds like you are one of us for whom gluten is addictive. You have to beat this! Your life and quality of life depend on it. It is hard and you may go through a form of withdrawl. We are here to help in any way we can. You can do it!

Pre-existing conditions: Illness disease or treatment that may result in danger from taking the flu vaccine. This changes depending on which vaccine you receive. Go to: Open Original Shared Link and scroll down for each vaccine.

If you have a milder condition, discuss with you doctor the risks of getting vaccinated and weigh those with the risks of getting sick. 36,000 people die each year from the flu.

Since going on the gluten-free diet, I find that I don't get AS sick as I used to.  I still seem to catch colds but I don't end up with fevers for days on end or secondary bronchitis or sinus infections. It could just be a coincidence that I don't get as sick now that I'm gluten-free, but I doubt it.

If you are having a tough time staying gluten-free, and have found the flu shot works for you in the past, I would get it. It's always good to have that healthy edge.

I am one of those people who tends to get sick for a week every time I get the flu shot so I gave up on them; I actually seemed to get sick less when I skip the shot. Instead I use homeopathy flu "vaccines". It works for me, whether it is the placebo affect or not, but I know it's not for everyone.

Good luck, and best wishes getting the gluten out of your life.

.  Sorry, I forgot that this wasn't common knowledge, I have discussed it with several doctors and a person that used to work in a vaccine lab.  Please see my amended post for a link to the Center for Disease Controls ingredients of vaccines lists.  .

Open Original Shared Link  You can find what ingredients are in these vaccines by visiting this sight.  Look for a list which shows the specifics for each vaccine.  Also, they have a general list of some of the ingredients.

First, there is not one "flu shot". It varies from one year to the next depending on which strains of flu are going around. Some years more than one shot is needed if a strain is recognized later than usual.

Then, some vaccines use live virus weakened to a point that can not cause sickness but will cause the body to produce antibodies. Other vaccines do not use live virus.

Some vaccines are not injections, but tablets or nasal sprays.

Further, people with egg allergy can not take some vaccines but eggs are not used in all vaccines.

All these things are listed on package inserts and can be found on several websites by searching "influenza vaccine package insert".

If anyone decides not to get the flu vaccine, they should avoid contact with people who could be put in danger by the spread of the flu. Unvaccinated persons may be carriers, causing illness or death in "at risk" populations, small children, the elderly, pregnant women, people with compromised immune systems and chronic illnesses to name a few.

That is interesting about the Adenovirus vaccine, except that the Adenovirus vaccine is NOT a flu vaccine.

On that Open Original Shared Link there are six Influenza (flu) vaccines listed, none of which contain the materials in question.

I did look up adenovirus and I thought that it was the flu.  I did express it that I believed it was the flu..  My first intent was to discuss what I do about vaccinations in general and other vaccines have this ingredient.  I hadn't considered the flu vaccine in particular since I am not familiar with it having rejected all vaccines.  The question which I thought was asked was if a certain person should get the flu vaccine.  I thought I would voice an opinion for no.  It would had been better if I just encouraged the person to read the ingredients first as I have done in the past..

Your statement refers to childhood immunizations, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A and polio for which another method has yet to be found and the use of two (2) cultures from the 1960-70's still exist. Please understand, these are the only two cultures being used. No abortions are being used to harvest cells, no fibroblasts are being created to harvest cells. No research is being funded to allow harvest of aborted cells or to allow cells created for harvest.

Regarding the two cultures from forty years ago, the statement of position most researched and thoughtful comes from the Vatican:

Again, none of this has to do with yearly influenza vaccines.

Straying back to Unhappy Coeliacs question for a bit.  UC, if you get sick often maybe it's time you changed your diet.  Half way measures don't work for the gluten-free diet.  You need to make a serious commitment to the gluten-free diet and get the gluten out of your body.  Then your immune system can focus it's efforts on fighting germs and other nasties instead of fighting itself.  That frees up antibodies to do something helpful for you instead of hurting you.  Making yourself sick on purpose is not helpful to your health.  It is not hard to stick to the gluten-free diet if you keep at it for a while.  It gets easier as your habits and expectations adjust.  If you want to get a flu shot that's ok.  But it won't change the fact that you are making yourself sick by consuming gluten on a regular basis.  Personally I don't get flu shots and I rarely get the flu.  Just because you haven't stuck to the gluten-free diet so far doesn't mean you can't do it now.  You can do it, if you decide to.  But that's your choice to make.  I do know that I am much happier and healthier on the gluten-free diet than I was eating gluten.  You may be surprised by how much improvement you can get by sticking to it for 6 months 100%.  Some improvements take time to happen.  But they can be very worthwhile.

Human stem cells are not always derived from "aborted fetuses".

the OP has received solid advice about flu vaccines being safe for celiacs.

That's enough for a celiac to make a decision about what to do.

For the record, I do not get one because my arm swells up like a balloon and is sore for a week.

I taught for 22 years (schools are a breeding ground for this thing) and never contracted the flu. Never.

My hubs got the shot this year (he is not a celiac, but he is healthy and is gluten free) and he got the flu anyway.

and then, he gave it to me...

soo? what??.

I again quote post #2. It has been edited many times, but the edit window is now closed, and this will be the final version. Nevertheless, I am capturing it (again).

The source cited at the CDC lists 51 vaccines. Of those, six (6) are for Influenza (flu). None of those six contain material from human cells.

Material cultured from human stem cells is used to produce vaccines for Hepatitis-A and Rubella (German measles). Viruses must be grown on live cells, and so far research has not found an alternative host for these two viruses.

The Adenovirus vaccine was mentioned. It is not related to flu, and is not in general use, but is made by one manufacturer under contract to the US Department of Defense. If you are in the US military, it may be of concern to you.

To sum up, and end this discussion:

With regard to the original question, there is no reason for someone with celiac disease to avoid the flu vaccine because of celiac disease.

The flu vaccine does not contain material derived from human stem cells.

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis after years of suffering without answers. I lost my mind. I lost my job. I lost so much time. I lost Me. Conventional doctors are opulent come near me and the one who did sat across the room, misdiagnosed me, pumped me full of steroids which collapsed my entire hip for 6 months. So without answers I began my holistic journey. Fast forward a couple of years and still struggling with a mysterious whole body itchy, crawling “skin hell”, perfect teeth now deteriorating, thick hair now thinning rapidly and no more than a day or 2 at most relief….An acquaintance opened up a functional medicine practice. Cash only, I found a way. Within a month tests clearly showing my off the charts gluten allergy/sensitivity as well as the depletion of vital nutrients due to leaky gut and intestinal damage. dermatitis herpetiformis was more than likely what I was experiencing with my skin. I was happy. I thought this is easy, eat healthy Whole Foods, follow the diet restrictions and I finally get to heal and feel confident and like myself again very soon! 😔 Supplements are very pricey but I got them and began my healing. Which leads to the other major issue: not working, stay at home Mom of young kids, entirely financially dependent on my man of 7 plus years. He’s never been supportive of anything I’ve ever done or been thru. He controls everything. I’m not given much money ever at a time and when he does leave money it’s only enough to possibly get gas. His excuse is that I’ll spend it on other things. So my “allowance” is inconsistent and has conditions. He withholds money from me as punishment for anything he wants. Since being diagnosed, he’s gained a new control tactic to use as punishment. He now is in control of when I get to eat. He asked for proof of my diagnosis and diet bc he said I made it up just to be able to eat expensive organic foods. Then after I sent him my file from my doctor he then said she wasn’t a real doctor. 😡. I go days upon days starving, sometimes breaking down and eating things I shouldn’t bc I’m so sick then I pay horribly while he gets annoyed and angry bc I’m not keeping up with all the duties I’m supposed to be doing. His abuse turns full on when I’m down and it’s in these desperate times when I need his support and care the most that I’m punished with silence, being starved, ignored, belittled. He will create more of a mess just bc I’m unable to get up and clean so that when I am better, I’m so overwhelmed with chores to catch up that the stress causes me to go right back into a flare from hell and the cycle repeats. I’m punished for being sick. I’m belittled for starving and asking for healthy clean water. I’m purposely left out of his life. He won’t even tell me he’s going to the grocery or to get dinner bc he doesn’t want me to ask him for anything. I have no one. I have nothing. Im not better. My supplements ran out and I desperately need Vitamin D3 and a methylated B complex at the very minimal just to function….he stares at me blankly…no, a slight smirk, no words. He’s happiest when im miserable and I am miserable.  this is so long and im condensing as much as I can but this situation is so complicated and disgusting. And it’s currently my life. The “IT” girl, the healthy, beautiful, perfect skin, perfect teeth, thick and curly locks for days, creative and talented IT girl….now I won’t even leave this house bc Im ashamed of what this has dont to my body, my skin. Im disgusted. The stress is keeping me from healing and I think he knows that and that’s why he continues to keep me in that state. He doesn’t want me confident or successful. He doesn’t want me healed and healthy bc then how would he put the blame of all his problems on me? This journey has been hell and I’ve been in Hell before. I’ve been killed by an ex, I’ve been raped, robbed, held hostage, abused beyond nightmares but the cruelty I’ve experienced from him bc of this disease is the coldest I’ve ever experienced. I’ve wanted to give up. Starving and in tears, desperate…I found a local food pantry in our small town so I reached out just saying I had Celiac and was on hard times. This woman is blessing me daily with prepared gluten free meals, donations, educational info, people who know this disease and how they manage life and the blessings just keep coming. But it’s overwhelming and I feel like I don’t deserve it at all. He just glared and I know he’s going to sabotage it somehow. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’m so broken and just want peace and healing.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana
