Oatmeal Toppings

If you can tolerate certified gluten free oats, how do you like oatmeal? Any suggestions for fun toppings?

I just got a new 25 lb bag of oats and I decided to buy some dried cherries to go with them, because I was getting tired of raisins.

My favorite oatmeal growing up was always maple and brown sugar. I like to just cook them with maple syrup and brown sugar in the water then drizzle a little maple on top. I also like to dice up part of an apple (and when I say dice, I mean I do it really, really small) and put that, brown sugar and cinnamon in it. If you're adventurous, there are actually a lot of great recipes available if you just google for them. Some are awesome, some not so much. Somewhere I saw one once where they made the oatmeal with coconut milk instead of water, that looked good too.

I like oatmeal with brown sugar or real maple syrup, cinnamon, walnuts and blueberries.  Or strawberries.  Or cherries.  Or cut up banana.  Or cut up apple.  Almost any fruit except citrus.  And add cream or whole milk (from grassfed , organically raised cows if at all possible).

There are many recipes out there for 'oatmeal in a jar', that you prepare the night before so it is ready to heat and eat in the morning.  Also recipes for oat based breakfast 'cookies' and bars.  Enjoy!

I'm very simple and like oatmeal with cinnamon and sea salt. Yum!

Oatmeal with blueberries, cinnamon, brown sugar, and just a touch of maple syrup.  I also add flax seed and milk on top.  YUMMM!  In fact, I am going to go make some right now.

I would stir in egg whites while it was finishing up cooking, then add peanut butter and a touch of stevia/sugar.

I also used to like it with cocoa powder, PB, hershey syrup (just a tad, not a lot). Mix in some crushed walnuts. mmmm I miss oats.

Moose,

Did you try Buckwheat Creamy hot cereal a Hodgson Mill product? Ingredients are Buckwheat and milled flax seed.  clearly labeled gluten free.   If I remember correctly, it reminds me of cream of wheat more than cream of rice/grits.

I most certainly did try cream of buckwheat! I used the Pocono brand, though. I liked it a lot! I actually love the cream of brown rice that I'm currently eating for breakfast. It's just as easy to make on the stove before work as the buckwheat was. It's also cheaper/easier to find than the buckwheat! You've got a great memory. :)

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
