OK, me first!

(DISCLAIMER :if you're offended by a lighter use of the word hate, please replace "hate" with "strongly dislike" in the following statements)

I HATE that I have to go to three stores for two things

I HATE that Bob's Red Mill made me doubt gluten-free labelling

I HATE that poser-indie-emo idiots have flooded my town

I HATE that I couldn't afford to go to SXSW with all of the poser-indie-emo idiots

I HATE that I couldn't get to Whole Foods because of the poser-indie-emo idiots taking all the parking downtown

I HATE that every small pricked man in Texas feels the need to buy the worlds biggest truck to compensate

I HATE that xanthan gum is $10 a pop

I HATE that I feel like a recluse because I only feel safe eating at home

I HATE being looked at like I have three heads (hi, my name is chelsea the hydra)

I HATE that my weekend will be spent watching basketball

I HATE that my DH will whine when I make him do something OTHER than watch basketball

I HATE that the Razorback basketball team sucks, though they did make it into the tournament

I HATE that my best friend's baby will be born on St. Pat's day, when he has a deadbeat dad named Pat

(A concern shared by said best friend)

I HATE that I feel like the stay-puft marshmallow man

I HATE that my troop's camping trip had to be cancelled because of the rain

I HATE my compact SUV, palm, cell phone, and grande caramel macciatto

<_<

Ok, I hate the fact that I just lost a huge list I was going to add!!!!! Ok, start over......

I hate the fact that I had to dish out $400. for a new pair of glasses that I can barely see out of and they make me look like my mother. I hate the fact that my husband's plans this weekend are the same as last weekend--sleep, eat, nap, eat, sleep. I hate the fact that Monday it was 85 degrees outside and today it was 35. I hate the fact that in this town xanthan gum is 12.50 a pop. I hate the fact that I can't have cheese and the fridge is full of it. (bought groceries Monday, found out the casein thing Tuesday). I hate the fact that I am so out of it that I have absolutely no idea on earth what the heck a emo or a poser is. I hate to ask my 13 year old computer questions and he is soooo "Nick the computer guy" from SNL. WHAT I HATE THE MOST IS THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING WITH CELIAC AND NOT GETTING DX BEFORE BAD, BAD STUFF HAPPENS. Whew, I am spent!!!!!

My goodness.....you sure are frustrated. Hate is such a deep emotion and should only be used in extreme situations. You really need to get a grip. Having to eat certain foods isn't all that bad, just think of all the things that could be REALLY SERIOUSLY wrong with your health. By eating the right foods you are going to be a healthy person and what could be better? Find something else to do other than gripe about what you eat. Maybe you should go out and do something for someone that really has problems.

While I appreciate your judgement, I really do, most of my complaints were not about food. Also, I'm allowed to be in a bad mood, thank you, so please trample someone else with your high horse. Like most other people my age, I tend to exaggerate, so please don't think that I truly *hate* my car.

I found many other things to gripe about other than what I eat. I like what I eat. I also enjoy baking, but I do not enjoy the fact that to do it in a way that I won't get sick, I have to add expensive additives! You obviously did not read my post.

I'm actually quite happy with my health right now, though that doesn't mean I'm not annoyed with manufacturers of foods.

Maybe you shouldn't judge what someone does for others. I'm not going to list what I do for others, that would make my intentions false, and would completely negate any good works I have done.

By the way, thanks for completely trivializing any hardships I've endured, I appreciate that. I'm glad that you never get frustrated, must be nice

psawyer Proficient

Chelsea, I read your original post in the light I think you intended it. Your use of the word "hate" was not literal in my interpretation. Most of what you said is just general frustration with the world we live in. Some is specific to particular circumstances that not all of us will understand. Not everybody will agree with everything you post here (or on any other online board), but don't let that deter you.

mouse Enthusiast

ChelSe, thank you for some great chuckles. Your list was good. I think this was also done with a little tongue in cheek attitude and we all need that at times.

Barbara, I think you need to let up a little. Maybe yours was just a diet change, but for some of us the diagnosis came late and we have multiple medical problems. And for some they are very serious. Undiagnosed Celiac and severe mala-absorption is a major cause of the additional medical conditions. This is not a fun disease, but most of us try to inject some humor into it and sometimes it is a little sick to those that do not know us.

Hey, I thought this was a light-hearted vent-type thread!? Come on guys, why can't we all just get along?--:unsure::)

Hey, I thought this was a light-hearted vent-type thread!? Come on guys, why can't we all just get along?--:unsure::)

That was my intention...but, erm, I am in kind of a bad mood, so I got a little snappy.

OK, a lot snappy. Snarky even!

Sorry

And now...

Back to the business of being lightheartedly annoyed at our very privilaged world :P

Lollie Enthusiast

I can add to the vent!

I hate that I can't have girl scout cookies- as I watch my hubby devour an entire box!

I hate I will have to endure basketball-even though he tried to envolve me with the bracket betting thing!

I hate that I have never been to SXSW even during college and now I have little kids.....

I hate that Xanthum Gum is dang expensive- (however I did find out you can use unflavored jellotine, but that is besides the point!)

Thank you for the opportunity to vent, and by the way, I am one of those who have suffered for 10 years, and I too, will continue to help others as I feel led to do! Don't worry ChelsE, I know where your coming from!!!!!

You from Texas? Have we had this discussion before?

If so then I would like to add, I hate memory loss due to lack of nutrients to my brain for years!!!!!!!!

BOY, I GUESS YOU TOLD ME. Sorry, I was so judgemental. I am not usually like that, in fact my mom is and I have been working so hard on not doing that to other people. LESSON LEARNED. Hope you see this, young lady. I am not so young, but I AM a lady. Just found out when I was 59 that I was gluten intolerant and I have to agree there are times when I think that fresh bread sure does smell good and I would like to have some too. Just living with it like I am with other things in my life that aren't working out the way I thought they would.

I HATE that I have been sick (getting a cold, had a cold, or recovering from a cold) for at least one third of the past six months, keeping me from actually ever being in a state of healthiness.

I HATE that my migraines, while mild-ish, are so constant as to significantly interfere with my yoga practice, my work, my social life, my sleep, my hobbies, my marriage, and pretty much all of my life. (And this one I also do mean as an extreme emotion. And I'm trying to resolve the issue, but it doesn't go away overnight, even with all kinds of things to try, and trying to resolve it doesn't remove anger/frustration.)

I HATE cleaning dishes. Ah well. I like having a clean kitchen enough that I do it once in a while. :-P

I HATE that I'm not better able to focus at work.

Nantzie Collaborator

I hate that my cell phone got turned off because of the stupid phone company's billing mistake and it still hasn't been turned back on after three days.

I hate making phone calls to people I don't know. Like calling the cell phone company over and over again.

I hate that if I have to eat out, I have to talk to the manager. I hate drawing attention to myself or making a fuss about anything.

I hate that I'm going to have to call the hotel we're staying at in a few weeks because they never answered my email.

I hate that 95% of my family has a habit of dropping me like a hot rock. My dad died over a year ago and I've only heard from one aunt, and she's aunt by marriage. My dad's sisters haven't called me once. No Christmas cards. No phone calls. No emails.

I hate that my parents are both dead.

I hate that my parents both died of cancer and I've got that to worry about for the rest of my life.

I hate that my stepmom is dating. He's very nice, and I like him a lot. They've both been through a lot in their lives. But again..., dropped like a hot rock.

I hate that I've found out that I'm, by far, the strongest person in my family, and therefore have no-one to lean on when ***I*** need some support.

I hate doing laundry.

I hate that I have to clean the bathroom tomorrow.

I hate that my husband's family has been so crappy to me.

I hate that my stepmom's family seems like they just feel obligated to me and seem uncomfortable with us being there on holidays even though THEY invited us.

I hate that my own family (for the most part) pretends I don't exist. I'm sure they love me, but they don't even make an effort.

...

I love that this is a relatively short list for me. Before I found out about celiac, this would have been 10 times as long.

It's too hard to explain. I'm 28 and too old to truely *understand* from the 'experienced it' sense, myself. :-) I do know enough to know it's not worth understanding. :-P (Then again, I had just started getting into the new-age yoga-hippie crowd before moving, so my judgement may be suspect. :-D)

Okay, this should be interesting....

I will use the words strongly dislike, since I have a hard time using the word hate (I guess it's from my upbringing, Mom always was mortified if we used the word "hate", we used to get the "WE DON'T USE THAT WORD IN THIS HOUSE!" when us siblings were fighting and yelling at each other! LOL!)

I strongly dislike that, as usual, I am sitting here at 4:00 a.m. because my bowels kick into high gear around 2 or 3 a.m. and I am constantly going to the can and have cramps until 5 or 6 a.m. when it finally settles down.

I strongly dislike the fact that when the kids wake this morning, I am going to be as tired as I usually am due to lack of sleep and extremely low iron.

I strongly dislike the faint tiny little wrinkles I can see creeping into my face.

I strongly dislike the fact that I am unable to shed the extra pounds I put on when my system was bombarded with prednisone.

I strongly dislike the fact that another March break has come and gone without us going away ANYWHERE on vacation - hard to travel with constant diarrhea, four children and very little money left over once bills are paid (my last vacation was my honeymoon in 92).

I strongly dislike the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs suck this year! and are fighting for a playoff spot.

I strongly dislike the uneasy feeling that is getting stronger and stronger about the instability of the world.

I strongly dislike the fact that we (as in the whole world) cannot just all get along and respect each other's differences.

I strongly dislike the lack of knowledge the medical establishment has about this disease.

and:

THE NUMBER ONE (LIKE THIS IS A LETTERMAN LIST OR SOMETHING!!!) THING I DISLIKE:

When the supermarket has run out of Altoids!!!!!!

Okay, I'm done.

Hugs.

I hate that on the internet you write something with one intention and people "jump" on it without even asking questions about it. I often have to do so much defending and explaining!

I don't hate much else.... after 11 years of being sick and finding out I have 2 illnesses to deal with I really made a huge effort to say "I love" more then I hate however with that in mind:

I hate that my boyfriend lives 800 miles away (so many frequent flyer miles however)

I hate the angst my 14 year old daughter goes thru so often.

That's it (for now!)

I hate my MIL!

Ahhh, isn't that the worst? There were these cute little girls outside the grocery store the other day selling girl scout cookies and I had to say "no." I didn't feel like getting into explanations they might not understand anyway. I really miss those cookies (mmm does anyone make a gluten-free thin mint??), but I think I felt even worse about having to say "no." So... I guess I hate that I'm such a people pleaser and can't say "no" w/o beating myself up about it

ChelsE, THis thread couldn't have come at a better time!! I think you are a very FUN person and this thread is a great one! Thanks for starting it.

Here it goes,

I Hate my digestive system!!! Why does it hate me at 31 years old!

I hate that I am the most indecisive person I know (can't decide whether to homeschool or send my son to firstgrade this next year).

I hate that I can't quit drinking caffeine, even though it doesn't do well with my digestive system.

I too hate going to 6 grocery store's in town to get all the "special" foods I need.

I hate that I can't go out to hardly any restaurants in town, therefore my friends don't call me as much to eat out.

I hate having this disease when I am in a hurry and there is nothing that I "want" to eat.

I hate having to worry about my son that has NF1 and celiac disease and he is in the negative 10th percentile on the growth chart.

I hate my mom telling me I am anorexic and how "old and cruddy" I look, because I am anorexic. I am not anorexic and she refuses to believe that it may come from the celiac!

I hate that I can't keep my house clean with three little kids, so every week at some point I just want to give up.

I hate that my husband is going out of town this weekend for a week. I know there are single mom's that do it all the time.

I hate that I too have been sick about 2/3rds of the past six months with strep, colds and the flu.

Ok, I am done now, but feel a bit guilty about posting all this. Maybe we should start a gratitude post in a few days!! LOL!

Have a great day everybody!

I hate always having to know where the bathroom is! And that I'm always worried I won't make it.

I hate always having to be prepared w/ foods or check out where I'm going.

I hate that I'm paranoid eating out - even at my mom's. I hate that I'm paranoid whenever I try a 'new' food. I hate having to read every label or call companies I'm worried about.

I hate telling my daughter that I can't (won't) make my famous mac & cheese cause I'll be darned if I'm slaving away on a delicious pot of it while I can't even lick the cheese sauce.

I hate that my dad tells me my diet is boring.

I hate hearing my stomach makes noises and immediately get worried that "it's back" (although usually it's not).

I hate always having to cook and clean up every single day.

I hate that my ex-husband is such an idiot when it comes to our daughter (oops, another topic maybe???)

I hate that I'm broke but always seem to need to go to the store for more things.

I LOVE that I'm feeling so much better. I love that I've lost 50 lbs, and even my daughter has lost weight. I love the support I've found through friends, family and this wonderful group of people.

Nancy,

I understand your angst! I hate alot of the same things you do! I hate cancer- my dad died less then 6 months ago. I also hate feeling as though I've been dropped like a hot potatoe (that's my saying, hehehe!!) And I definantly hate having to draw attention to myself when out to eat!

I happen to be pretty strong, if I don't say so myself-feel free to PM me if your needing support!

I know I haven't been tested but self diagnosed that by avoiding gluten the past 7 months I feel so much better. I have followed how to eat and avoid gluten and have been good about hidden gluten in products, how to prep gluten-free and flours to use to bake gluten-free and have been very successful. It has been a learning curve but once you get the hang of it and more aware you realize how many places are gluten-free and contamination free practices etc. One thing I have read is how soy is like gluten. How would one know if soy affects you? I have eaten gluten free hershey reeses that say gluten free etc some other snacks say gluten free but contain soy and I dont get sick or soy yogurt no issues. Is there adifference in soys?

Check your multivitamin to see if it contains Thiamine Mononitrate, which is a "shelf-stable" form of thiamine that doesn't break down with exposure to light, heat, and time sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold.  Our bodies have difficulty absorbing and utilizing it.  Only 30% is absorbed and less can be utilized.   There's some question as to how well multivitamins dissolve in the digestive tract.  You can test this at home.  YouTube has instructional videos.   Talk to your nutritionist about adding a B Complex.  The B vitamins are water soluble, so any excess is easily excreted if not needed.  Consider adding additional Thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) or thiamine hydrochloride.   Thiamine is needed to help control electrolytes.  Without sufficient thiamine, the kidneys loose electrolytes easily resulting in low sodium and chloride.   We need extra thiamine when we're emotionally stressed, physically ill, and when we exercise regularly, are an athlete, or do physical labor outdoors, and in hot weather.  Your return to activities and athletics may have depleted your thiamine and other B vitamins to a point symptoms are appearing.   The deficiency symptoms of B vitamins overlap, and can be pretty vague, or easily written off as due to something else like being tired after a busy day.  The symptoms you listed are the same as early B vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially Thiamine.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as three days.  I recognize the symptoms as those I had when I was deficient.  It can get much worse. "My symptoms are as follows: Dizziness, lightheaded, headaches (mostly sinus), jaw/neck pain, severe tinnitus, joint stiffness, fatigue, irregular heart rate, post exercise muscle fatigue and soreness, brain fog, insomnia.  Generally feeling unwell." I took a B 50 Complex twice a day and extra thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine and TTFD.  I currently take the Ex Plus supplement used in this study which shows B vitamins, especially Thiamine B 1, Riboflavin B2, Pyridoxine B 6, and B12 Cobalamine are very helpful.   A functional evaluation of anti-fatigue and exercise performance improvement following vitamin B complex supplementation in healthy humans, a randomized double-blind trial https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10542023/
    • Scatterbrain
I am taking a multivitamin which is pretty bolstered with B’s.  Additional Calcium, D3, Magnesium, Vit C, and Ubiquinol.  Started Creapure creatine monohydrate in June for athletic recovery and brain fog.  I have been working with a Nutritionist along side my Dr. since February.  My TTG IGA levels in January were 52.8 and my DGP IGA was >250 (I don’t know the exact number since it was so high).  All my other labs were normal except Sodium and Chloride which were low.  I have more labs coming up in Dec.  I make my own bread, and don’t eat a lot of processed gluten-free snacks.
    • knitty kitty
@Scatterbrain, What supplements are you taking? I agree that the problem may be nutritional deficiencies.  It's worth talking to a dietician or nutritionist about.   Did you get a Marsh score at your diagnosis?  Was your tTg IgA level very high?  These can indicate more intestinal damage and poorer absorption of nutrients.   Are you eating processed gluten free food stuffs?  Have you looked into the Autoimmune Protocol Diet?
    • knitty kitty
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can make TMJ worse.  Vitamins like B12 , Thiamine B1, and Pyridoxine B6 help relieve pain.  Half of the patients in one study were deficient in these three vitamins in one study below. Malabsorption of vitamins and minerals is common in celiac disease.  It's important to eat healthy nutrient dense diets like the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet that has similarities to the Mediterranean diet mentioned in one of the studies.   Is there a link between diet and painful temporomandibular disorders? A cross-sectional study https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12442269/   Nutritional Strategies for Chronic Craniofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders: Current Clinical and Preclinical Insights https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11397166/   Serum nutrient deficiencies in the patient with complex temporomandibular joint problems https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2446412/
