Blood Test-which Number Is Most Important?

After fighting with my dr to get my own blood work results and being hung up on (I guess they weren't happy with me calling them and bothering them everyday), I got my results. I do not have them in front of me so I am not sure of all of the details (my husband told them to me over the phone, which is a little difficult to do). However, I think they did not do the full panel. I will post later today with the results when I actually see them.

However, I know it said my "IgA Serum = 180mg/el". Is that the total antibodies? Does this number mean a lot when figuring out if you have celiac? What is the most important test in the full panel to determine if you have celiac?

Appreciate any help.

I don't know which is most important, but I can tell you what ours said:

Immunoglobulin A 2.54 (ref. range 0.60 - 4.20 g/L)

anti-endomysial antibodies negative (screened at a titre of 1 : 2.5)

Immunoglobulin A 1.73 (ref. range 0.60 - 4.20 g/L)

anti-endomysial antibodies negative (screened at a titre of 1 : 2.5)

Immunoglobulin A 1.21 (ref. range 0.4 - 2.8) presumably because he's only 8 they use a different reference.

anti-endomysial antibodies negative (screened at a titre of 1 : 2.5)

The next info is for my younger son...he's the one with Celiac.

Immunoglobulin A not tested

anti-endomysial antibodies 1 : 160 (screen at a titre of 1 : 2.5)

The last test the nurse said she figured they didn't do the IgA because the anti-endomysial came back with such a positive result. They did do a biopsy later and some sections were normal and others showed "severely blunted villi consistent with Celiac Disease".

I don't know if that helped you at all.

Yeah, I think serum IgA is total IgA - they do the test to see if you are low, which would make some of the other readings low. Without the ref range, though, it doesn't mean anything - you would have to look at the results. They will flag results that are out of range. I would say that the Ttg and the anit-endomysial numbers are the most important. If these are positive or high out of range, that is often enough for diagnosis.

"which Number Is Most Important?" Well thats easy the one with a $ in front of it! :D

But more seriously, get them to give you a copy of your blood test results, ether by Fax, mail, or you stopping by, what ever works out best. Then you can review all the details and make a better decsion about what they mean, and post here with any questions.

Throw words around like "lawyer" and "HIPPA" and "Better Business Bureau" and "American Medical Association". That should get you your records with lightning-fast speed. I've had similar issues, and no matter what they say, you have right to an *exact* copy of your labwork for a second opinion or for your own records.

I spent a lot of time the other day reading about HIPA. :P

Yeah, sounds like you have to be tough to get yourself better. ? Go figure. I have the results in front of me and here they are:

IGA, Serum - 180 mg/dl

Gliadin AB (IGA) - 3u/ml, where <11 is negative

Tissue Transglutaminase AB IGA - <3, where <5 is negative

That's it! Is that the full panel? Do I need more tests done? They said I was negative and that was it. "You're negative, have a nice day." So, I am trying to figure this out on my own.

I have been gluten-free for 1 1/2 weeks. After the first 7 days I was feeling better, but now I am more bloated than before! I don't know what to do!!!! I am so frustrated.

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
