Free cone day is coming! April 25th is the day that Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops give out a free scoop of ice cream, yum! You can go to their website Open Original Shared Link and see if you have one near you!

They don't keep a listing of what flavors are gluten-free, but they do clearly label and don't hide gluteny ingredients.

I went to a scoop shop yesterday and had no problems (except the lactose part, but it was worth it :P ) and they gave me a really recent ingredient listing for all of their flavors.

If anyone is curious about their favorite flavor, I can post the ingredients!

Remember April 25th (for those that can have ice cream)!!!!!

:(:(:(:( Sorry :(:(:(:(

I didn't mean to be mean...

They have 4 flavors of sorbet though, and they all look gluten-free/cf (even egg free) to me! :)

Berry Berry Extraordinary (aka Buried Treasure), Lemonade, Mango Lime, and Strawberry Kiwi Swirl

YAY!!! Thanks for sharing!~

For those who can't eat dairy, I did see on their site that they have come out with 3 new sorbet flavors with no dairy/lactose. I wonder if they carry those in the scoop stores? I have yet to find them at my local grocery stores, but maybe b/c they are new in 2006.

ChelsE beat me to it! ;)

As for thier sorbet...

"Phooey. No stores were found within 60 miles radius. Sorry about that."

Thats what I get from thier site's "Falvor Locator".

:(:(:(:(:(:(

I love free scoop day!!!!

Ben & Jerry's is really good about listing their ingredients. My favorite flavors there are Chunky Mokey and Cherry Garcia (used to like Mint Chocolate Cookie).

They have a Mint Chocolate Chunk now that is excellent, and gluten-free

Hey, Vydorscope, our local market carries prepacked Ben & Jerry's--have you checked yours? (There might be hope....)

Sorry, I wish we had one close to use as well. We just have Baskin Robins. Dollywood has Mini Melts, does anyone know if these are gluten-free?

This may be a dumb question but...do scoop shops wash the scoops in between scooping the different flavors?

They will if you ask them to. The guy at the B&J shop I was at yesterday went and even sterilized one.

Kasey'sMom Enthusiast

Wow, that's great!

I checked out the sorbets you metioned online. It looks like they're soy free as well. YUM

Is that you in your avatar? It's such a beautiful picture! :)

Baskin Robbins labels if it has wheat in it.

Free cone day has always been my fav day of the year... but im a little nervous this year- the one near me is the one in Times Square and it is SO crazy on Free cone day- the line goes around the block! Should i be concerned about my "special needs" of getting my Free Cone scoop in a CUP?! I feel like it will be a disaster that day...

OHhhhhhh, lets go together!!! That is the one by me also. I'm like a block away. I usually try and go later in the afternoon, around 3:00 so it's not lunch time. Line usually isn't bad then.

Bummer.

Will they ship to you if you order in bulk?

mookie03 Contributor

Definitely- but i have class 2-4 (we usually get out around 3:30ish) so we'll have to go closer to 4 :)

I believe the Phish Food flavor is gluten free. According to their website, they specifically state that if a product contains gluten it will be listed as either "wheat" or "flour". The ingredients for Phish Food ice cream list neither. However, I would double-check with the company.

Yes, its gluten-free... but not dairy free. :(

The last time I checked the following Ben & Jerry's flavors are gluten free:

Fudge Central

Karamel Sutra

Everything But The...

New York Super Fudge Chunk

Peanut Butter Cup

Phish Food

Pistachio Pistachio

Uncanny Cashew

Vanilla

Chocolate

Coffee

Vanilla Caramel Fudge

But, of course, you should double check to make sure the ingredients are still gluten free.

Not to be a party pooper, but you should really insist on a fresh tub of ice cream. Even if they sterilize the scoop, they most likely already added a scoop that touched a cone into the tub. Probably just trace amounts but enough to do damage. Better off buying a sealed tub, unless it is a fresh untouched batch.

Again don't want to be a buzz kill!

Please note that this is a very old thread and the information is probably out of date.

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
