Vincent - what are BS changes? oh wait....blood sugar...duh. :blink: just answered my own question. You have said that you get shaky without carbs....but I am wondering, are you getting enough protein? I know that if I eat a bowl of cereal, I am ravenous within an hour or two....I always need protein in the morning.

Rachel - heinous day at work! I hope today is better and no more perfume! :) But you stuck it out, that's amazing...I always wonder how you get through your work days with all of your issues and you manage to show up, stocking the Nuggetts ;) day in, day out. And BTW, what kind of birds are nesting/dying at your house?

Andrea - how are you doing today? Your dad, and your hubby?

Donna - YAY! A vacation! is it a gluten-free cruise? I know they exist and it's my dream to take one. Cruises are absolutely wonderful and it's all there for you if you just need to relax....the Bumble Bars...haven't started on my experiments yet...we will see! :)

Hi all!

Vincent....I agree with Susan....you need more protein. I also find I'm ravenous if I don't have some protein early in the day. I usually eat two meals and find that when I had three and didn't have protein for the first one that I was hungrier than if I had only had two meals. :blink: Don't know about those headaches though.

Good to know that everyone is starting to feel better. I'm doing better today. School is going better today too, so far.

Carla and Julie.....it seems as if I've moved to a more protein diet. I still have too many carbs at times. Lots of rice, and rice pasta when we have pasta. I typically don't have bread anymore. I have no idea how to figure out anything as far as fat/protein/carbs, but I'm doing ok.

Donna......a trip sounds like fun. I want to take a train ride to California to come visit all you girls down there. :P Julie, Carla and Patti would just have to find a way to California too so we could all meet for a weekend or something. I know....I'm dreaming. :P

Okay, I booked the cruise, lol. I had just finished booking it as my boss came in, lol.

Susan - it isn't a gluten-free cruise, but I saw on their website that gluten free was a choice under special dietary considerations. I have to send them a letter. From past experience (before I was even gluten-free) the staff on board are usually very accommodating...don't know what the corporate office will say, but I'm sure the crew will help any way they can.

Andrea - I've always wanted to do a train trip!!!! It sounds like so much fun. Back when I was a child (way back in the 1950s, lol) train travel was still sort of "in", so my parent took the train to Iowa to visit family...I can't remember anything about it really, just minute little pieces of memory here and there.

So Vincent, I'm wondering if the adrenals aren't the culprit in your case too since it seems so hard to control the blood sugar. I'm thinking it may be part of my ongoing issues as well, since I seem to have blood sugar symptoms, but test okay.

Adrenal fatigue does make you tend toward hypoglycemia. It could also cause the headaches. In my opinion, the diet and lifestyle changes to combat adrenal fatigue would be good for literally EVERYONE!!! It takes you back to the calmer way of living in the past -- eating right, eating often, light exercise rather than very strenuous exercise to make up for a sedentary life, go to bed early, rest, etc. The book I read even has you look at WHY you do the things you do -- i.e. why are you a perfectionist? What made you that way? It's a whole process of looking at the paradigm that got you to where you are healthwise, so that you can reverse it and go back to the health you were meant to have.

Vincent--I can't remember the exact nature of your migranes. Too many posts back, I guess :blink: But, did you have head pain, or is this something else?

It is impossible to explain. Its a freaky wierd, almost pins and needles feeling around my head in a nonspefic place, it increases irritbility, decreases focus, and is generaly not fun. No pain most of the time.

No matter what I eat, no matter how big or how little of a meal I eat, not mater protein conten/carb/etc with in 2 hours, if Im lucky 3.. I am starting to get BS issues, by four or 5 I am in real trouble. I know that carbs are required, cause I ahve tried all protien/fat and that was a major bad 24-48hrs recovering. :o I know that if I eat non stop all day (just eat when I feel the symptons, or constantly snack), I have no issues... but Im already up 12 pounds, and a pants size since this has hit, I need to get that back under control. So I am trying to find a min level to eat.

I think you mentioned that to me elsewhere.. but the thing is my blood sugar issues is directly related to the glucose in my blood, so its not a simular set of symptons, its actaully out of contorl BS which as far as I understand is related to over production of insulin. I have tested while having symptons and my levels usaull are either falling fast, or already to low.

BTW - THats great about the Cruise!!! My best vaction ever was our honeymoon on a 7 day cruise!

I'd make my way down either driving myself or taking the train if everyone was willing to meet up.

Vincent, I had a hair analysis done by Analytical Research Labs, Inc. They told me all kinds of information so that my diet and supplements would be perfect for me. Several of the things mentioned in the report talked about blood sugar. For me, my body is not utilizing potassium and sodium correctly because of stress. That affects blood sugar. Also, I need to supplement chromium in order to process carbs correctly. The test, through my doc, but you can go to them on your own, was $138. Worth every penny. Two booklets of information, one on diet one on the analysis that are designed specifically for me. I am a different person completely than I was a month ago. I still have a long way to go ... but I'm finally making progress.

Rachel, interesting info, I have mercury toxicity and aluminum toxicity according to the hair analysis. I had my amalgams out 15 years ago, and did a supplement program to detox, so the mercury must be from fish, I've eaten a lot of it over the years.

That is weird Rachel. When you say "ever since this whole thing started", do you mean your illness? Are they the same kind of bird? Are they dying in the same place? Is there a big window they are flying into?

Sorry, if all these questions seem obvious. Here, if we find a dead bird we call and the bird is taken and analysed for West Nile virus. I have no idea what is normal for birds dying but I think if you are really noticing them dying then there is something strange about it.

Sorry...I guess I didnt explain very well. The birds built a nest above my porch....by the time I noticed all the mess and looked up it was too late to do anything about it. Soooo...for several months now I've had to deal with all the bird poo on my door mat and birds constantly flying to and from the nest. I have no idea how many eggs they laid but I found some dead babies, broken eggs, and I've found about 3 young birds dead on the porch. I dont know if they fall out of the nest or if the mom throws them out or what.

It doesnt have anything to do with my illness though.

Yes, this would be an excellent time to clear away the nest and all of the mess tht you're gonna find along with it. Last year, we did this in the fall and ended up having to actually repaint the trim around the doorway. It's white, and was a litttle stained in places.

After it's clean, you will probably want to do something up there so it won't happen again, because they will be back--that's for sure!

This past spring, we had to go out daily and run a broom over the doorway--they kept trying to build a nest even though we were doing that. They are very tenacious :D I expect to have to do it again this year....

Today is somewhat better....no perfume "episodes" so far. ;)

I'm pretty stressed out trying to work the 4 pallets of product I ordered. That and the fact that every other customer is stopping to ask me why we have NO milk on the shelf. We wont get any until tonight and they just stare at me in disbelief and horror at the thought of NO milk. :blink:

I dont know what kind of birds are nesting at my house but the're small...and messy. <_<

I'm soooo jealous...I wanna go on a cruise when I get better. Its one of the things I'm excited to do in the future. You're gonna have a great time....now you'll have to do some shopping for the cruise. ;)

Hi Andrea :) I don't really get super technical about it, I just eat a palm size portion of protein (chicken, beef, turkey), a serving of carbs (i.e. one red skinned potato, 1/2 lg sweet potato, 1/2 c. brown rice, etc), and a tablespoon or two of olive oil or some other healthy oil.

If I eat carbs I try to always eat protein with it, so if I have dessert I try to eat it with my meal. Or if I have Alexia fries for example, I might sprinkle some browned ground beef over the top or eat with a beef patty, or if I have pancakes I will eat scrambled eggs also.

Vincent, forgive me if you have posted this elsewhere on the forum, I rarely venture out of the OMG or Rachelville threads :lol: , but have you been checked out by a doctor, or had a panel of tests done for your BS problems/migraines? And when we say BS we mean BS :lol: It does sound like there is something going on there with the blacking out, that got my attention.

Rachel, sorry you are having trouble with the birds nesting again, I think you posted a thread about this over the summer if I am not mistaken. Hopefully the tips Patti and the others gave you will be helpful.

Carla, what is the name of the book you just read again? Sounds interesting. The hair analysis sounds interesting too. I had it done over 10 years ago but it was just checking for metals and etc., nothing as elaborate and involved as your test sounds. I agree that adressing adrenals would benefit everybody, our society/lifestyles are so "high stress" and medicated (i.e. coffee to stay awake, sleeping pills to sleep) most everyone is running on empty.

Vincent, forgive me if you have posted this elsewhere on the forum, I rarely venture out of the OMG or Rachelville threads , but have you been checked out by a doctor, or had a panel of tests done for your BS problems/migraines? And when we say BS we mean BS It does sound like there is something going on there with the blacking out, that got my attention.

Several years of testing, by serveral different docs, in a couple different hosiptials and eventually I figured it out my self, self tested with glucose meter at home, and then brought the results to my doc who agreed. The testing procedure is well established for hypoglycemia and can safely/easly be done at home, though the respectable medical information sources will tell you it has to be done by a doc. Thats just CYA stuff.

Blacking out is one of the most comon symptons assoicated with it, up there with the shakes, vomiting, and other fun things!

I also have a heart condition, so thats probably not real helpful in this situation. :)

$138 is way out of reach for me right now. But thank you for the suggestion.

That's about what I eat at any given meal, but I eat five or six of them!!

Vincent, most of the stuff in the hair analysis was also in the book, but it wasn't designed just for me personally.

I'd probably still eat more than necessary but it would be much closer. I do only eat 2 meals a day so I make the most of it. When my hubby was home last week he had a better understanding of why I don't eat til so late at times. I don't know how I'd fit in three meals......I'd have to cut out my morning computer time....then I'd never catch up on here. :o

I would consider that to be a bigish dinner any more. But I do use a kitchen scale to get roughly "1 serving" of any given item... well okay fine I might Rachel ice cream occassionly.. okay prbly most nights :)

I like enjoy life chocolate chips with coconut (I know you can't have that Patti) and slivered almonds.

I used to make homemade peanut butter cups but since I can't have carob chips anymore and have quit with the peanut butter due to my soy intolerance I haven't tried anything else. Almond butter may be good though.

Donna if I make it down to Sacramento sometime would you be willing to drive up? I'm seriously considering coming down, just don't know when. What would we all do in person.....look for our computers to talk like Carla does. :P:lol: I don't have a laptop.....

      If lectins were my problem, I would react to wheat germ (the highest source of wheat lectins) and beans. I don't. I only react to bread and pasta, which are the highest sources of gluten. Therefore, my issue is wheat-specific (Gluten/ATIs), not a general lectin issue.   I have eaten a supposedly high lectin diet (I say supposedly because lectin content in these foods is greatly reduced by proper cooking and I eat very few of those foods raw, and even then, rarely!!) for years. My health has improved greatly on my whole foods plant forward diet. I have asked all my drs and a registered dietician about my diet, asked if eating such a high amnt of fiber might interfere with the digestion of any other nutrients and the answer has always been NO.     while doing the gluten challenge I did not eat ANY wheat germ (since it doesn't have hardly any gluten, and I was too sick from the bread and pasta to want to eat much anyway) I will NOT put that poison in my body again. That was a horrific experience and if this is what most celiac patients have to deal with, I am very sorry for them I don't care if I have celiac or NCGS I won't intentionally cause myself that much pain and suffering it's not worth it.

      @catnapt,  Wheat germ contains high amounts of lectins which are really hard to digest and can be irritating to the digestive tract.  They can stimulate IgG antibody production as your blood test shows.   Even beans have lectins.  You've simply eaten too many lectins and irritated your digestive tract.   You may want to allow your digestive tract to rest for a week, then start on gluten in "normal" food, not in concentrated vital wheat gluten.       I take Now B-1 (100 mg) Thiamine Hydrochloride, and Amazing Formulas L-Tryptophan (1000 mg).   Both are gluten free and free of other allergens.  I've taken them for a long time and haven't had a problem with them. I take Vitamin A from BioTech called "A-25".  It's gluten and allergen free and made in the USA.  It's a powder form of Vitamin A.  I was having trouble digesting fats at one point, but found I tolerated the powder form much better and have stuck with it since.   Tryptophan and Vitamin A help heal the intestines as well as improves skin health.  I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis and eczema flairs when my stomach is upset.  So I'm healing the outside as well as the inside.   I take one 1000 mg Tryptophan before bedtime.   With the Thiamine HCl, take 100 mg to start.  If you don't notice anything, three hours later take another. You can keep increasing your dose in this manner until you do notice improvement.  Remember not to take it in the evening so it won't keep you too energized to sleep. When I first started Thiamine HCl, taking 500 mg to 1000 mg to start was recommended.  If you've been thiamine insufficient for a while, you do notice a big difference.  It's like the start of a NASCAR race: Zoom, Zoom, turn it up!   This scared or made some people uncomfortable, but it's just your body beginning to function properly, like putting new spark plugs in your engine.  I took 1000 mg all at once without food.  It kicked in beautifully, but I got a tummy ache, so take with food.  I added in Thiamine TTFD and Benfotiamine weeks later and felt like I was Formula One racing.  So cool.  You may feel worse for a couple days as your body adjusts to having sufficient thiamine.  Feels sort of like you haven't cranked your engine for a while and it backfires and sputters, but it will settle down and start purring soon enough.  Adjust your dose to what feels right for you, increasing your dose as long as you feel improvement.  You can reach a plateau, so stay there for several days, then try bumping it up again.  If no more improvements happen, you can stay at the plateau amount and experiment with increasing your Thiamine TTFD.  It's like being your own lab rat.  LoL Yes, take one Benfotiamine at breakfast and one at lunch.  Take the B Complex at breakfast. Take the TTFD at breakfast and lunch as well.  I like to take the vitamins at the beginning of meals and the NeuroMag at the end of meals.   You may want to add in some zinc.  I take Thorne Zinc 30 mg at breakfast at the beginning of the meal.   Are you getting sufficient Omega Threes?  Our brains are made up mostly of fat.  Flaxseed oil supplements, sunflower seed oil supplements (or eat the seeds themselves) can improve that.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil is also helpful.   @Wheatwacked likes phosphotidyl choline supplements for his Omega Threes.  He's also had dramatic health improvement by supplementing thiamine.  You're doing great!  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  This path will smooth out.  Keep going!

      good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

      I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.
